Nice to see you know what you are talking about. I have been bow hunting turkeys exclusively for 20 years. The first year I took the advice of aiming were the wing attaches to the body. Lost several birds. I have been shooting birds exactly as you explain in this video and haven’t lost one for the past 18 years. Very quick and ethical kill, they don’t usually walk farther than 20 yards before falling over dead. To the guys that disagree, next turkey you clean look to see where the vitals are.

Awesome Todd! Spread the word it seems there is only a few of us that use this shot placement. Because of it we see an extremely high number of turkeys go unrecovered!

Saw a video where they missed with the guillotine and it shaved the back of the turkey. Just feathers everywhere and a bald bird.

You are right.Lost a tom last season, arrow passed right through the chest and never found the bird.

what broadheads do you prefer for turkey?

Same question I had. I want to know what head was on that arrow he used for demonstration. Looks like a Hartcraft lopper or a Magnus bullhead. I hate when people post videos and don't respond to viewers questions.

If you are shooting higher poundage 60 and above we like Trophy Ridge Hammerheads. Any head that opens from front to back, typically it allows the arrow to stay in the turkey. If we are shooting lower poundage say 55lbs or below we like a fixed blade like the NAP hellrazor.

Mechanicals work well. I got into Turkey hunting because I had a bunch of mechanicals that I would not point at anything that weighs more than 25lbs. At least they're good for SOMETHING. 🤭

That's exactly what I have been teaching for the past 30 years with the exception that you are slightly low on the broadside shot. Try a bit higher. the shiny spot on a strutter is too low for sure. Go just above it..high is better than low.

their are so many videos on shot placement on turkeys this one seems to be the most practical just got done watching one from hoyt archery were they say to shoot might be a 12 ring on the 3d course but it don't make sense on an ethical shot on a live animal I had to find another video this one ive been bowhunting turkeys for about 3 years got some shots at them but it seemed to just take out feathers thanks this is very helpful

if i get good shot placement and none of the guts n shit gets on the meat then can i still use the meat even with a big hole in it? like how they do it similar to filleting a fish and for a whole turkey roast.

Ive shot many turkeys with a shotgun and this year decided to try it with my bow. Yesterday was my opener in MI and I shot a very nice tom that got away simply because I was wrong on shot placement. I should have done my homework and watched this video before. Its never a good feeling as a sportsmen to lose a wounded animal. Can't wait for a redemption shot with this new Intel!
