The razel fixed blade is d2 steel, with a resin infused fiber handle and 60$. And the dextro is also d2 with a milled aluminum handle and 55$… not simping for crkt because I still think that’s a little pricey for what they put out but I think this is a bad take.

@@joesdickhardt1653 seriously. you look at the bushcraft/survival knife scene and everyone seems to forget that the knives that were actually used by men who lived in those situations were usually no more than a sharpened piece of whatever carbon steel they could get and a wood or bone handle. there were no mountain men or trappers or trailblazers using super steels and resin handles.

as a former carpenter, can confirm. that thing will break before you do anything slightly chisel-y
@wandering_heart
@wandering_heart Жыл бұрын
@@satoshikazami6958 as an active carpenter, I call bullshit. Most chisel work in carpentry can be done with very weak steel. It's the sharpness of the blade that matters. Not its hardness or strength. In a pinch, I've used cheap pocket knives for lots of chisel work... from scrolling detail work to roughing out joints. That said, even if the blade were dull, there aren't many woods that will break a steel blade.
@satoshikazami6958
@satoshikazami6958 Жыл бұрын
@@wandering_heart not to sound like I'm questioning your experience and expertise (because I'm not), but I would disagree. Perhaps it's the different type of work but I was on site to renovate houses a lot and I would not trust a knife like we saw to hammer into wood. That aside, blades are meant for cutting and excessive force will bend or snap the blade. Of course, it all depends on what you do with a blade but I would absolutely NOT use any of the knives we saw in this video as a chisel. I respect your opinion and experience but I'm not using a knife as a chisel for anything that I did while on site

See how he capitalized the cost? I think M L is making a point about the fact that a relatively expensive $90 knife is not what a lot of laborers take to work.... Blades tend to get beat up, borrowed and/or lost, etc, so they need to be tough AND low cost to be replaceable. So it seems to me people dropping replies to his comment either prove his point that a lot of you don't work construction or you have poor reading comprehension to overlook what he capitalized The blade shape is also pretty stupid for most construction work. The stupid cleaver or chisel shapes lack the piercing utility of a typical pocketknife , and nobody wants a knife that can't pierce for sh1t

This was pretty much my comment. They push designs that create new "knife guys" for a decent price. REAL knife guys hate them though of course. CRKT got me to by an M16 for an entire day's wages when I was a young man, and instantly another knife guy was born. I still have that knife and it's in great shape despite taking it to the jobsite often because it's not as nice as my "real" knives lol. Reminds me a lot of Olight if youre a "flashlight guy" too. Real guys hate em, but they catch the eye of normies for $60-$100 with interesting designs and boom, another flashlight guy is born...

Still dig the discontinued Benchmade Pardue with herringbone G10 scales for a good EDC blade to wear with business suit attire or thin dress pants since that thing weighs so little you have to do the 2 hand car keys pat check on your front pockets just to make sure it's still there, several times throughout the day. One of the few knives I never thought I'd be concerned with it not weighing enough.

When you can go to Home Depot and get a two pack of Milwaukee Fastback knives, one that takes disposable utility blades and one that's a regular drop point, for $30, why would anyone working in construction use anything else, or anything similar from DeWalt or Stanley or any other company that's available at the hardware store? If someone walks off with my Fastback knife or I break it, I'm not going to be too sore about it.

The Fastback was an absolute game change. It's crazy it took someone so long to figure it out. Great ergonomics and durability out of a hardware store razor flipper. They shouldn't have waited for Jon to die before they dropped these new razels.

I only buy American and European made traditional knives so none of these are for me, but I do like the size design and handle shape of the Razel 4037. If there was an American or European made knife just like it in an easy sharpen steel I'd buy one.

Crkt columbia knife river and tool is an american company and does have at least some american made knives. Not my favorite choice but i do have some good knives from them.

@@pranc236 I don't care where a company is based, only where their products are made. This is the only knife from them I've ever been interested in because I only carry traditional knives.

@@TylerSnyder305 some are made but they are not exactly advertising a US manufacturing on all their products either. Some do say made in usa but not all.

@@pranc236 They should put the COO on every knife they offer. Buck does ( best company in the business no contest ) Case does it, Victorinox, Mercator...ect. Best part is that they use actual tang stamps ( some of the modern type Bucks don't) instead of just an etch or lazering .

@@TylerSnyder305 they all should. I agree. Best knife i have ever owed is my microtech hands down, which is made in the usa. They are very proud of their knives but id say its worth it as it has been with me for 4+ years as a mechanic and cut everything i have came across.
