Lots of custom stuff was added to this to make it work. Those custom blown up trees, those are custom textures not found in the original game. So all the interactions were custom.

First time I saw a playthrough of this I was laughing uncontrollably for the first 10-15 minutes. Something about the whimsical nature of the game combined with an overpowered shotgun destroying everything and emitting a realistic shotgun sound just made it hilarious. Took some getting used to before I was able to stop laughing. Also, just to answer your question about where Chain Chomp went: he doesn't die, he just goes flying straight up.

Hey Bathanial, there's a mod called mario 64 morality which seems like a simple hack at first, but it's actually very cool! There's multiple endings as well, one for no kills, the regular ending is at least one kill, and then there's another ending for getting max level, plus it has a new boss. (Also, just fyi, I recommend savestates for no kills cause it can get annoying with what levels you up, plus it saves your level with each kill).
