Andrew Ziegler Theon to jon your grace your father always said that 500 men could hold winterfell from 10000 wouldn't it be a good idea if we stayed in the castle walls to protect it now that we are outnumbered and we should have the archers and trebuchet behind the castle walls to protect them, and shouldn't we dig trenches to protect the castle, Jon that's a bad idea Theon only a fool like Tywin lannister would do that we should take our soldiers out the castle walls and put the trebuchet in front of the spearmen so that the dead army can get to them first. Jaimie your grace or my lord shouldn't we hide the the dothraki and the knights of the vale in the left and right flanks and give them a signle to attack at the right time when the dead attack our main army, Jon no that's a bad idea Jaimie only a fool like King Robb would do that we should attack the dead just with the dothraki without the nights of the vale and the nights of the vale should dismount their horses it wouldn't be a fair fight with so many caverly. tyrion lannister my lord i could smuggle som wild wildfire from Kingslanding i destroyed half of the stormlanders army in seconds both stannises and renlys armies ask Ser davos his son died in the battle of the blackwater Jon answers only a fool like Tyrion Lannister would do that. Jaimie again, your grace or my lord or what the hell you are on my way here i got Lord Edmure Tully out of the Prison and asked him to rally the Riverlords to come to our aid, Jon answers you fu..ing id..ts what is wrong with you guys we dount have time for that, send a raven to lord Edmure and tell him to chill and relax and let him be ready for the battle of Kingslanding or they can just live there Lifes in peace like the DONRNISH ARMY. Jon says make ready to meet the enemy out the castle walls but but my lord its a bad idea don't worry northern valor would carry the day.

'English' is difficult to describe Edward i & ii and his noblemen and barons as 'English' considering none of them could speak the language and where kings of Occitan and Anjou, 'Norman French' is more accurate, the 'English' are the poor peasants pressed to fight in these battles. the Scots would have looked very similar, the cavalry and knights would be draped in their clan colours and would have the same military set-up and armour, its annoying to see dirty unkempt scots with rudimentary weapons, the only thing they actually lacked is numbers, 100 mounted full armoured knights compared to 2000.

The defensive design of a deep ditch with sharpened logs combined with the last second infantry retreat...was a winning strategy. Digging defensive ditch adjoining the bog and swamp was smart. Once the horses were stuck the archers could rapidly finish them off. Would armies not send scouts out 24 hrs ahead of armies? Maybe the Scotlish killed them? Brilliant strategy and scene.
@kainschild2 жыл бұрын
I know old post but the reason this worked so the English didn't expect it. If their scouts had gotten close enough they might not have even know what to look for. As you saw the Scotts first formed their line in front of the trench then fell back as the horsemen approached thus shielding it till the last moment.

the English army were already looking for Robert, who had raided nearby towns and garrisons and was known to have camped on the hill. Outlaw King was mostly historically accurate, but I wish the film included my favorite moment of the Battle of Bannockburn. Sir Henry de Bohun riding with the English van, spots King Robert 'the Bruce' riding a small pony and holding only an axe. Sir Henry leaves the column and rides out to kill the King of Scotland. King Robert sees Sir Henry, but to Sir Henry's great confusion, King Robert isn't reacting at all. He was just sitting on his pony. Sir Henry lowers his lance and aims at the King, only for King Robert to suddenly drift his pony to the right. As a result, Sir Henry misses the King and rears his horse. But that's the last thing Sir Henry de Bohun ever does. King Robert raises his axe above his head and hits Sir Henry so hard that his helmet broke in two. King Robert, instead of lamenting the bravery of the now dead knight, laments that his favorite axe is now broken.

Btw... Don't you feel like swords and other types of melee weapons are more scary than guns? Don't you think that way too.
@obryanmeli28874 жыл бұрын
@@Y_ooKang it depends. While seeing limbs chopped off and hearing bones crushed seems more brutal doesn't mean that getting hit by a bullet doesn't hurt. It's hell since the bullet will turn into fragments that drill through your body. Plus literally any person of any size can instantly kill you by just landing a shot at the right spot. Edit: take a look at saving private ryan. It shows you how gruesome modern warfare is.
@Y_ooKang4 жыл бұрын
@@obryanmeli2887 no no no. Like a SHARP BLADE slicing your skin. For guns you can simply take cover, but for melee weapons you literally have to approach the enemy FACE TO FACE. Guns, of course they would make a horrible blasting noise but come on it's not as bad as getting hit and sliced by a melee weapon. That's what causes mass graves. Same for guns. But I PERSONALLY think that guns are less horrifying than swords. So 50/50 L O L.

This movie scene should be called: 'French Norman king who speaks some Gaelic fights French Norman king who speaks some English and both whip conscripted soldiers from among the people they conquered and colonised and make them fight their battels for them.

"It's a trap!" You can say that again, Ackbar. And even when they realize that, they can't stop because of the inertia of the cavalry charge behind them. Anyway- of all the movies on war that I've EVER seen (OTHER than "Come and See") the scene AFTER this battle is the most realistic depiction of the "glory" of war that I've ever seen. Once the adrenaline and chaos wears off, men who survived are, no, not even just traumatized- all the damage they've been ignoring DURING the battle hits them all at once. The numerous TBIs they've taken but been able to keep fighting through suddenly are felt. It does not feel like victory, despite being undeniably so.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is the English don’t give a fig one way or the other. Granted, the union of the two kingdoms was brought about by dubious circumstances. As in, the antagonists weren’t present when it took place in 1707.

Pretty well done, but with the usual movie fantasy of the prolonged "random melee pit". Even if such an event was to come about, which it practically never, ever did, people will always start to clump together with guys of their own side pretty quickly and commence shuffling around as a blob poking at the opposing blobs, everyone trying to GTFO and back to their own lines. The only time anything resembling this would be when a bunch of stragglers from the rout get caught, which wouldn't last long, or perhaps some knightly types having an arranged melee by agreement. In this particular battle, the front ranks got hammered and fell back on the guys behind, the back ranks fled, and any poor suckers left behind were easy meat. Which is pretty much what always happened, in one form or another.

Like to point out few facts ... the English in those days had a trained army who were well equipped with horses swords and all the funny we toys of war the Scottish were all a bunch of farmers and fisherman with no training in war fair but they stood there ground and sent the English home tail between legs for many years the English raped and burned the land of Scotland 🏴 but we kicked there ass ..... it’s because we are tough fact do you know the SAS is mostly Scottish soldiers..... anyway proud to be Scottish

@gatonasrani57005 жыл бұрын
Not only by the thoughness of national soul. The Scottish commander decided and prepared very wisely the terrain to negate the English the advantage of the shock power of their excellent knight heavy cavalry. And once the Scottish light infantrymen or peasants could held the lines behind the anti-cavalry trenches against the dismounted or grabbed by mud English men-at-arms, and neutralized them bit a bit, the battle was lost to England.

The ‘English’ monarchy during the Middle Ages was actually more French than anything else. Since France’s successful invasion of England under William the Conqueror in 1066, the Norman monarchy ruling their new English territory often looked to the ‘mother land’ for kings and queens, like the French Plantagenet dynasty, queen Eleanor of Aquitaine (formerly queen of France until she divorced) and king Richard the Lion Hearted who spoke almost exclusively French (his English was terrible according to writers at that time) and spent most of his adult life in France (he died and was buried there). Richard’s coat of arms emblazoned on his shield was the Croix d’Aquitaine.
