I am hoping you will be covering each shooting station? The best and most visually simple skeet tips I have seen. I won't be able to move to station 2 now until I have seen the next video!
@Shotkam6 жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks so much for your encouragement. Station 2 will be released next Thursday at 4pm EST. You can sign up for the emails here 👉 promotions.privy.com/campaigns/470803 or Subscribe to our KZbin Channel to be notified. Station 2 high house is typically the hardest clay for right handed shooters, so it's a pretty in-depth video next week :).

Great tips, subscribed. What do you mean by "don't ride the bird"?
@mattd62644 жыл бұрын
he means continuing to lead the bird with the gun for a prolonged period of time. he is trying to reinforce the break point. it's also not a good practice to ride birds because they're falling so you'll have to swing your gun both leftwards and downwards (in the case of low 1) and because you lose your "hard focus" which is key to being (focussed) *on* the bird. humans don't have the ability to focus hard on a moving object for prolonged periods of time. in my experience i'm more successful at breaking the target when i don't wait so long to break it because my hard focus is good only for a second or two after i pick up the bird.

Wrong on High one. While most people do this with almost no movement, you really want to move to the bird, and FOLLOW THROUGH, emphasize on on follow through, by doing so, it moves the sight picture below the incoming low bird, and makes the low house shot on doubles much easier.
@lancastergerard4 жыл бұрын
Starting high and following you run the risk of the bird getting below the barrel. If you shoot with correct timing you get high house just before they cross and have all day on the slow low house coming in. Todd bender skeet fundamentals

There is another way to shoot station 1 low house that involves much less gun movement on singles and simplifies breaking the low house on doubles -- again, with much less gun movement on the low house.

2:39 don't ride the what? and what does that mean don't ride the "blank"
@Shotkam3 жыл бұрын
Hi Taylor, thank you for your comment. "Don't ride the bird" means don't stay following the clay too long with a hard mount. You should take the shot within a half second of a hard mount so you don't focus on the barrel and to try to aim/measure the lead. I hope this helps!

Is he shooting w/both eyes open, or using only one eye focused on the front site/bead on the barrel? Lots of vids on here insisting that you should use both eyes and not even look at or see the barrel, the middle sight and/or sight bead on the muzzle..? My son is 11yrs and just starting to shoot shotguns and I want to train him with the correct and most successful method..any pointers or suggestions are much appreciated...
@Shotkam5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, these are great questions. We recommend that you should keep both eyes open the whole time and not look at the bead of the gun at all. In fact, a lot of our shotguns here have the beads cut off so that it removes the temptation to "aim" while shooting. As you will see, you should always have both eyes focused on the clay, then your brain will naturally put the correct "forward allowance" (lead) on the clay. Skeet is a great place for your son to start. He should truly watch our skeet series to see how far in front of clays he needs to shoot, because pellets go much more slowly than you think. I hope this helps and I think it's great that you're starting to train him in the sport - that's exactly what we hope for. Best regards, Emily Stewart

I don't understand why you're always saying 'don't ride the bird'. On any stations with doubles, I'll ride the single of the second pair bird in order to better simulate the double shot.
@Shotkam6 жыл бұрын
We do want to break the singles in the same place as the doubles, you're exactly right. By saying "don't ride the bird," David is trying to convey that the shooter should avoid having the gun mounted into his/her cheek for too long. The shooter should shoot within half-a-second of having the gun in their face, otherwise the temptation is to measure the lead and/or look at your barrel which will slow down the swing. Do you agree?
@KashTheStampede6 жыл бұрын
Ahh, I've not thought of that. I've always established a cheek weld as part of my gun mount. I'll have to try that. I agree that shifting focus away from the clay onto the barrel will slow the swing.

Got to ask, why does the guy in the video have the gun shouldered? The point of skeet is to shoulder it once the bird is moving so a lot of these tips will be useless
@Shotkam3 жыл бұрын
In American Skeet, you can start with the gun shouldered, whereas in international skeet (olympic) you cannot. For American, you start with a "soft mount" which means your head is off the gun and it's not fully mounted into your shoulder. Once you start moving on the line of the target, then you hard mount with head on the gun and fully shouldered. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
