Nice job. The slow motion playback with the slowed audio really caught the attention of my 10 year old son. He is has been training for 3 years and his 4 Kyu with an American Japan Karate Association-International dojo.

@berner Shotokan does have deeper stances but that's mainly for traditional kata. I study shotokan and I believe it is a pretty brutal style. I am a brown belt at the moment.

@s0ulshad0w I'm talking about the sweep at 0:22 and repeated in slow-mo at 0:38. The defender sweeps the front of the attacker's leg, about 20cm below the knee. I call that shin. The part where the shin and foot meet is called "ankle". Either way, it's sweeping into hard bone. I've never seen a Judo-ka do a sweep against the shin and those guys are experts on sweeping.

@Artandor the shouting, or KIA, is like Chi. It increases the power and strength of your attacks making them for damaging and painful.

no this is not aggression, he is being firm with his motions. you need to scream, it helps with your punches. aggression is the thing that can get you hurt. you need to keep calm and keep eye contact

@kcBombe Keep with your training! :) I'm 18 years old and been in Goju Ryu for almost 13 years now, it works so many wonders. The fact that you're only twelve and believe in a lot of practice and training shows you are going to have a fruitful life in Karate Do. Don't let it squander.

@Artandor The shouting, is actually used for the sudden exhalation of air, which moves the diaphram, allowing the stomach muscles to tense. providing protection to the abdomen should you take a hit there while attacking. If you don't release that air you have a very high chance of being winded. The shout also eases your nerves, and reminds you to breath. as a lot of amatuer fighters hold their breath while attacking. too focused on assault. and pass out.

Surely the second technique in the video, the leg catch, relied on the opponent kicking lightly into the shoulder rather than hard into the head? The catch and sweep only worked because the "tori" kicked into his shoulder - which is something unlikely since round kicks are usually to the head or ribs?
@nogek
@nogek 14 жыл бұрын
Some of the sweeps were good, but a couple were real crunch techniques. The second set had a sweep to the front of the shin: must have hurt the sweeper and an inefficient way to sweep. One of them was against the side of the knee where there is little give, especially if the stance is rooted - it's an attack to the knee, fine for real world applications but for every day practice could easily cause serious damage.

I honestly enjoy practicing this at my school. However its sad, no one takes it seriously and our sensei is never around. I always knew that you could sweep the leg as a counter to kicks. I wish we did Kumite more often, but really, we hardly ever do. 2 months ago we had a half assed tournament. I got champion in my division, and a friend in general (all). He is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. But he sucks at kumite, had I fight him I know I could have gotten him. I honestly wish i could do more.

A lot of these defenses are relying on the kicker to throw the roundkick into his shoulder for a scoop and aren't coming horizontal into his head with intention.

@checkyerself Very true ^^ which is why i don't particularly Kiai, i settle for a sharp exhalation of air, more of a "Hmpf." than a shout xD keep the jaw movement to a minimum :) Although in Kata, and other less combative excercises i will show my spirit with a proper Kiai

Has anyone else ever noticed you can tell a persons experience from their hands. Younger Karateka always have tight closed fists, where as older more experienced karateka tend to have their hands loose. Not saying this is 100% true, just a quick observation.

I started watching and then had to stop a few seconds in: TOTAL LACK OF RESPECT! Who bows while keeping their eyes on their opponent? That is completely anti-traditional... and disrespectful. We show our partner the top of our head, and drop our eyes, as a sign of trust in them and their skill .

@20nineaug94 Quite wrong. When was the last time you asked the guys that invented the thing? The Japanese are quite quite particular about the formality of bowing, in general. My instructors come from the source- straight from the hips of Gishin Funakoshi. Whatever filtered down UFC ideas are floating around therse days are a corruption.

I love guys who have so little confidence in their actual combat effectiveness that they trawl the internet looking for small breaches of etiquette or techniques that don't look the same as their own. For the record, most Japanese karateka in the JKA at least boy without keeping eye contact because it is considered rude and suspicious to keep eye contact when you bow.

some people have no idea and are so simple and closed minded that they are concerned about why a bow is required... get a grip, it shows you have respect, without it your not a worthy opponent and belong in the other mac dojo's punching bags and learning nothing. I train in shotokan and a few of these techniques are familiar but its down to the clubs teaching not the style, read up on the history of all martial arts and you'll see. I wouldnt want to try and catch a roundhouse from our dans

most ppl would think this is just a simple choreographed piece of shit,but realy it isnt,the truth is if u can make these techniques perfect within u then it will be easy to use them on the streets,im12, just a yellow belt in shotokan,ive gotten into a serious street fight,and at the end of the fight i sent the 14 yr old down with a straight gyaku zuki and then i finished him off while he was on the floor ,if u practise alot like me then ur reflexes will be based on proper effective strikes:)

Karate is great for self defense, but when they demonstrate their skills it's all just choreographed ! It would help defensively in a real fight but MMA/UFC have already proven it's not enough.

the very second technique is dumb never use it as it leaves the fae TOTALLY open a killed fighter e.g is able to control a kick at any position redirecting a to jodan is very easy. Technique would be better if two hands were used 1 as a block the other as a control. Poor execution OSU

This is an incorrect karate technique!! You cannot jump on the opponent with an unprotected head forward (under a counter blow), and instead of putting a block with your hands against the opponent's mawashi, you cannot try to catch his leg with your hand (leaving his head unprotected) etc. And then these karatekas with such an ugly technique are brutally beaten there are ordinary street hooligans on the street, and they complain that karate doesn't work.

everyone actually believes that karate,kung fu,judo,taewkwondo etc. and all japan,china and brazil based martial arts are the best . well what you don't understand is that we indians are the ones who created these forms. we didn't go too public and kept it private to everyone except the chinese.these chinese improved it and stated that it was their martial art. its not true. our martial art [kalari payattu] is the mother of all martial arts and these techniques are nothing in front of the technique in kalari which includes nooku varmam[eye power], choondu varmam[power of pointing],uudu varmam [power of blowing ] which are techniques which can even paralyze or kill opponents without even touching them . the ideas of chi energy and 5 elements of world where already told by us before the chinese. and can you believe that are formulas of creating chi energy is true and is agreed by science while chinese chi energy is not proved yet and has no clear formulas.ours is more powerful too . our weapons were better than any ones at that time. so these karate techniques are nothing in front of kalari payatu. so shooooooooo off and JAI HIND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are Indians which no British can touch if you don't believe what i said then search it and believe it !
