All of this, and it's only the muscle contractions. This doesn't take into account the simultaneous experience of nausea, vomiting, unsure if you have a cramp or if its something worse (ovarian cysts for example), unsure if its needing to use the bathroom, dizziness, fatigue, mood swings, ect. I just know I would miss school when I was younger, and they only got worse, and I had to start taking BC because I blacked out from the severe back pain , my body went into factory reset essentially. I say this as I'm on my current hell week as well, had bad cramps hanging with friends, went to the bathroom and took some ibuprofen and went back out to have some good ol fun.

My parents realized my pain levels weren’t normal after pacing the house shaking while chugging the water bottle I held and then seeing me look at the different knives in the kitchen for the best one to cut the uterus out with. I’m one of the lucky few women that doesn’t have to deal with strong cramps. But I went and got an IUD at the gynecologist… I tell you that I screamed of pain the same way! And I experienced true cramps the entire rest of the day week! I wanted to throw up when I was at work! I used midol for the first time. I hope I never have to experience real cramps again!

Just imagine being constantly at a 7, then you get maybe a moment or two of a simple 2 or 3. Then it spikes back up to a 7 (or more), and stays CONSTANT. For 3-7 days. Every two weeks. The aching sores, the bloating, the bleeding - the pain is just one factor of it all. Women are expected to function with all that, at least until they hit menopause. And some have it WORSE, like those who have endometriosis (like I have - I got an IUD bc it was the only way I could regulate it, my body makes too much testosterone thus causing the period irregularity). In those cases, imagine bleeding for several weeks-months and it's so heavy you get severely anemic. Like, to the point where you can't be anywhere other than the shower or toilet, if you do decide to sit anywhere you have to put a towel under you at all times because pads/tampons do NOT work (or even help a tiny bit). And then imagine trying to tell a doctor, only to be told to 'just take Ibuprofen' or that you are 'wasting their time' because 'all periods hurt' and 'some are just more heavy than others'. Not to mention the fact that you have to go to the doctor on a day where your period stops, just so you don't make a bloody mess everywhere and ruin your seat/clothes in the process. Which, again, at that point is rare and if you don't get help to regulate it can legit kill you from just bleeding too much. And yet, most men call women 'too sensitive' or just outright liars when they try to explain that periods can get this bad or even worse. Yes, the pain IS bad. And I'm glad more men are realizing the severity of periods. But it's not the only factor we deal with, if anything the bleeding is what should be more terrifying than any pain we experience during our periods. It's tragic, but there is progress being made with these sorts of 'trends'.
