Should Assassin's Creed bring CO-OP BACK?

Assassin's Creed has always been and first and foremost a single-player experience. However, there have been successful multiplayer modes in the past like with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and the introduction of Co-op in Assassin's Creed Unity. Co-op has not returned in Assassin's Creed since Unity and I feel it's about time it makes a comeback. However, there are still some reservations and concerns I'd have with that if Ubisoft does decide to bring it back...

Co-op in unity added to why I think it was the peak of assassins creed. Assassins were meant to work together and for unity to allow that fantasy to come true where you play with friends and coordinate missions was amazing. It's just a shame they abandoned unity when they could've developed on it.

My only fear with co-op is how well can they make both the co-op and single player experiences work. For example there’s the infamous flag race in AC Unity which is fairly easy in co-op but in single player is infuriatingly tricky to get the optional time objective. Those are the kinds of little details which are easy to overlook but can ruin the experience for some players.

Yes. The outfit customization and how it really made Arno feel like YOUR assassin. It really gave the feeling that you're on mission for the brotherhood with your fellow assassins.

I always wished for a system of co-op where you could play as side-characters, such as being able to play with both Edward and Adewale in co-op

If you are referring to AC 4, I wonder how that would work since Adewale leaves Edward to join the Assassin's towards the middle/ending of the game? I mean, Edward and Adewale were still good friends but how would that work for Co-Op if you're talking about Black Flag?

Definitely, I play Unity frequently and that element of co-op is always super fun to play. Sometimes playing assassins creed can feel a bit lonely and that co-op brought a new excitement to the game even if it experienced issues.

Yes but it has to remain simplified, i think if they did 2 player coop it would be great. syndicate would've been a good test. you and a friend playing as the frye twins. no coop missions but instead play the whole story and side content together

YES. The feeling of unity in CO-OP is unbeatable. Like we have an army of assassins that are all intelligent. Just add some combo moves and it is PERFECTION.

Unity I think did a good job of scratching the surface of co-op. Unity’s biggest issue was time. They were extremely ambitious and the game wasn’t given the time it needed in development. I think you simply have single player missions that once completed can be done in co-op and in story you are just working with other assassins. You can also have a separate online mode that is a live service with updates that add new missions and kinds of missions maybe ability to create your own and play other people’s created missions, that would be receiving a mission from another bureau within the story. So the elements are there for this they just need to execute

In Unity, all players see themselfes as Arno, the other players have slighty altered faces. And youre right, singleplayer should always come before a multiplayer or coop, but Unity's coop sure was fun when it worked.

I really want an assassins creed where you make the main character. Like you could put yourself as the person in the animus and create an avatar. That creative freedom would make the story and co-op experience feel more personal.

Here's what Ubisoft should have done: After AC Origins, the next 2 games should be direct sequels where we play as Bayek and Aya. The 2nd game would be set in Judea and it would continue the storyline of the lost Apple + the issue of Roman occupation and Order of the Ancients. The final game would be set on the Italian Peninsula with Rome as its biggest city. This final game would have insane co-op potential! Just think about it. Bayek goes to Rome to help Aya in her fight against the Order of the Ancients led by Emperor Octavian. The entire story could be constructed in a way that it can be played in co-op where one player is Bayek, and the second is Aya. Both characters could have unique skills, animations and move sets. Bayek being the stronger and better in direct combat and Aya being a stealthy assassin archetype.

There should be a co-op Assassin vs Templar mode. 1 medium sized map, 8 player lobbies, 4 assassins, 4 templars. The match will vary depending on the type mission(obtain a piece of eden, kill a political figure, defend an important character, etc.). Both sides will have to try to foil each other’s plans. Each faction will have their pros and cons, Templars will have brute force, manpower. They can layout the map before the start of the match, place guards at specific locations, put traps, etc. but their con is that they are grounded the whole match and can be m assassinated with 1 hit if they’re caught off guard. Assassins will play as normal, their advantage is the shadows and the high grounds, cons is that it’s extremely risky to be in open combat and they will ALWAYS be outnumbered. Not a flawless idea, but it’s an idea.

I feel like they could go down the dead rising 3 route, cutscenes in campaign play similarly to the one in Co-op the exception being that the co-op character which could just be a side character in the main campaign actually interacts with the protagonist. Far cry 4 is also a good example with Ajay and hurk

I have no issues with co-op as long as it doesn’t affect the single player experience the reason why is l don’t want to deny or restrict any players preferences or choices on how they prefer to play the game l want all players to be able to have well rounded choices for all games

Multiplayer pvp co-op. Assassins vs Templars. This should have happened already. The modern day could be a tablet holding Abstergo employee like in Black Flag and Rogue, meeting daily quotas for the Templar boss while secretly fulfilling requests for Assassin hackers. Imagine Jacob and Evie escorting Germain through Venice using the Kidnap mechanic, while Basim and Altair scout ahead. In their way would be Haytham and El Tiburron watching the streets, and Starrick watching the rooftops, and on the far side of the map would be someone who picked Shay at 240 ping running at a wall mumbling "I make my own luck" over and over

Unity wasn't the only multi-player ac game there's an older one I don't remember if it was brotherhood or revelations but one of them had a multi-player mode on it where you and a buddy hope on a console idk if it works on pc but you could hop on there and full around with your buddy it was way more dumbed down compared to unitys multi-player

My instantaneous answer is yes. Edit: I believe eventually will happen, and in my personal preference I would like the multiple canon characters, like in GTA V (Trevor, Michael, Franklyn), Detroit Become Human, etc. And it wouldn't be too different from how Valhalla makes you change or select the gender of Eivor. A very close example which is recent and co op (I haven't played it, just watched short videos about it) would be Gotham Knights where in the story you choose between Batman sideckicks and they follow the same story but react differently according to their personalities.

I've played co-op in Unity with randoms for a few times before and it was quite fun so I would like them bringing it back. Hopefully they find a way to make it work, not only for the missions but freeroam as well, since I just played FC6 in coop with my friend, sure the spec ops was alright but other than that I found it a bit boring.

I want a full on online multiplayer assassin's creed that works like nfs heat or forza horizon...where you can stumble upon other players on the map and do story missions with them...or do the story missions by yourself...and have coop missions

I haven't played AC Unity in several years- a LONG time I should say. The last achievement I got in AC Unity was in early 2016 (2/19/2016 to be exact) and here it June 30th, 2023, half way being through the year. But I remember playing Unity, I had a blast playing it and I played it with an old friend of mine. We would do Co-Op almost every night, he was chill and was a bit of a prankster but it was all for laughs. He was far way better than me at AC but I didn't care tbh, I wasn't good at gaming back then. I returned to AC 4 about 3 or 4 weeks ago, maybe 5 weeks ago? It's been a while but with the skills I gained while gaming since 2017 when I last played Blag Flag, it didn't take me long to remember the controls and I pretty much mastered the game in like an hour. Is AC Unity worth getting, in the Xbox Store, it's 30 bucks (USD) but is it still worth getting? I don't have the game but I can get it- maybe. Depending on if I have any money saved up on my Xbox/Microsoft account.

Unity's co-op seemed like an experiment with the idea that was meant to built upon. The main thing is that the game needs to built with co-op and single player in mind. The Tournament is a notorious co-op mission the is neigh impossible for single player as the race is too complex for the time given for a single person. But with dedicated servers and customizable characters co-op could be really good.

Me and two other friends bought AC Unity in 2021 to play together on Xbox One. The mode NEVER worked, not ONCE! We tried like 10 or more times. Ubisoft site says that the servers are ok, but they straight up don't work.

If Ubi does make a co-op game in AC again, they should separate it with the main campaign, like from ACB-ACIV where the character you play in the main story is different from the Assassin you play as in the multiplayer. That would have more customization as to what kind of Assassin you'd be and roles you can take each member of your group. Plus they should really remove someone like Bishop giving you directions like... its a memory... what purpose is there when all these things have happened already?

The Co-op in Assassin's Creed Unity should have cut entirely. It bogged the game down and wasn't necessary. Co-op multiplayer should be its own separate game entirely made from the ground up to be like that, if it were to return

They are making multiple mutiplayers games. Three are PvE with one having characters from new and previous titles, the other one is open-world coop with ubisofts new solar technology. The third hasn't even started and may not been made, we don't know anything. We also have a PvP one coming out made from the people who made the previous games multiplayer pvps.

This might be a crazy statement but just hear me out. What if they made an Assassins creed where the main story was somewhat short ranging from maybe 10-15 hrs BUT to make up for the short story they could make every mission co-op and you could experience the ENTIRE story with friends or randoms. I personally believe that it would be one of the top selling AC games if people had that option. But like i said, that might be too crazy of a statement.
