a point to be made is that the 'magic' in harry potter is far different from occultism and wicca etc. because in Harry Potter people are BORN with these powers/abilities, and they are simply learning to control them at Hogwarts. It'd be completely different if they were regular humans who were choosing to pursue these things for the sake of power, excitement etc. As it is, they are BORN WITH abilities, which, sets them apart from being regular humans (muggles if you like), which draws the line pretty darn clearly between Harry Potter being fantasy (which it is) rather than teaching actual real life witchcraft. Put it this way, no real life human child is going to be able to cause glass barriers to disappear in a zoo just by wanting them to. If it's not possible in real life, it's fantasy. Fantasy, while not necessarily useful in terms of strengthening one's relationship with the Lord, it's also not damaging unless one makes it (ie by devoting their life to some movie or something... which some people do, tbf, which is kinda weird). By the way, there are christians who talk about Harry Potter encouraging divination. As for divination, the main protagonists of the book clearly hate that subject. In fact the headmaster of hogwarts actually wants to discontinue the subject. Also there is a book called a parents guide to harry potter by Gina Burkart. It talks about how to use harry potter in the christian class room. “Since it is likely that children will encounter cruel enemies, let them at-least have heard of brave knights and HEROIC COURAGE. Other wise you are making their destiny not brighter, but darker. -Cs Lewis. Ps. A true christian would not be quick to judge a book series as demonic. This is only my take on it. Harry potter: the boy who lived, the chosen one and litterally comes back to life to defeat the self proclaimed dark lord. The books: the whole message and moral of the story is that love conquers all. That's the message. Love. Love for your family, friends, close ones and people around you. Harrys power and being special doesn't come from his power in witchcraft, he's above average, or his mind, average. It comes from his great capacity to love and those around him. The evil ones/bad guys in this story are ones without the capacity to love. The magic, you'd know all this if you had read the book, in reality is just a back drop for interesting stories and an interesting world where cool stuff happens. It's meant to hook you in with the escapist fantasy of leaving your boring life and be taken to a place where you can learn to make pots and pans move with a stick. And on top of that, it's just very well written. My thoughts on christians against Harry Potter: I get it. A fictional character is doing what the Bible says is wrong, therefore the books are bad. Knowledge, science and technology were treated the same way. Since so many Christians enjoy these advancements, how would their ancestors see them? Scientific theories and hypotheses are allowed to evolve, biblical thought is not. I don't have the answers but I do enjoy the questions. The Bible has a plethora of horror in it and we Christians believe every word of it. There's a difference in examining critically with our minds and condoning something that is wrong. Besides the magic spoken of in Harry Potter is NOTHING like the magic that is real and is condemned in Scripture. What about Wizard of Oz? One of the good main characters is Glinda the Good Witch of the North. A good witch, how dare they. All witches are suppose to be evil. Next we have a magical animated Scarecrow and Tin Man. Flying Monkeys with hats! Man this is terrible. On the topic of a story teaching and having a message. In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy runs away from home. According to the logic of christians against Harry Potter , it will make kids want to run away from home. Dorothy befriends a lion. What! That will make kids go up to lions without fear and want to be their friends. That is dangerous. Lastly what about the Wizard of Oz, the guy who the whole story is named from. He is a fraud and lies about his identity. This will teach kids that committing fraud and lying is ok. We know these things are evil, yet children know that these are wrong when a parent does their job and educates them. To quote my Favorite Character in Harry Potter: “The world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.” -Sirius Black I've recently become a Harry Potter fan, The reason behind that is that, unlike the people against it, I know how to differentiate between fiction and real life, and between a fairy tale and my religious beliefs and practices. Also if you are so Anti-Harry Potter, you should be anti Lord Of The Rings and Chronicles Of Narnia. Narnia has magical wardrobes and NECROMANCY and Lord of the Rings has magic rings, but their okay to read and watch. But a teenager with glasses who defeats evil and a book series with BIBLE VERSES is bad? Harry Potter is a Christ figure, J.K Rowling is a devout anglican. Not once did she ever practice witchcraft whoever told you that is a liar. A great example is the humanity of the character of Harry Potter. In the 5th movie we get possibly one of the best depictions of humanity in cinema that I think we’ve seen. Voldemort, responsible for mass murder, attempted genocide, and almost every single personal tragedy in Harry’s life if not all, is literally attacking him from the inside out. But Harry doesn’t curse him, or use his hate to overpower him. He shows pity. If you’ve read the books you know Voldemort literally cannot feel love and never could. People like this are labeled evil, but “inherently evil” people are just broken, mentally and or emotionally ill, and Harry recognizes how sad this is. Love was always Harry’s strength, and I think that’s what Rowling wanted to show u Here are a few of my fav Harry Potter quotes that prove that they're indeed books with a great message. "We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy" Albus Dumbledore "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light." Albus Dumbledore "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look how he trets his inferiors, not his equals." Sirius Black "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends." Albus Dumbledore

@evaulrikajansson62 I know magic isn't real. Im not that dumb I was just saying that's how things worked in the story. Because that's what it is just a F story. I really don't get what religious people or anyone has against fiction. Its quite dumb really that the church complain about harry potter but they happily let their kids watch the wizard of oz, the Lord of the rings and the chronicle of narnia. Yes i get narnia has an under story to it but there is still magic and talking creatures and a kid approaching a lion and riding on him. I don't believe reading fiction makes anyone a bad person. I don't believe NOT going to church * mot believing in hod makes someone bad. Its our actions. Quite frankly iv had more truth told to me and more help given to me by non religious people than religious people.

Love had an incredibly profound effect on magic. Lily Potter's love for her son made her willing to die for him. Because of her loving sacrifice, Harry Potter was protected from very powerful dark magic - the Killing Curse.[2] This protection was later strengthened when Voldemort arrogantly used Harry's blood to reinvigorate his body, to the point that Harry could not be killed while Voldemort was still alive, making it possible for Harry to survive another hit from the Killing Curse, when he found out when he was one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. By doing the same thing as his mother did, everyone that Harry sacrificed for was shielded from Voldemort.

The ending scene in the first Harry Potter was not about elevating Harry, but rather his clumsy, forgetful friend, Neville Longbottom. Neville was at this time of the story, a highly underrated character and almost everyone in the school looked down on him. To have a headmaster of the school acknowledged and rewarded his bravery publicly was a good move from Dumbledore in my opinion. It helped Neville’s confidence and put him on his hero’s journey path. I’ve also read an article from screenrant that another motives he might have had behind this was because he failed to stood up to his friend, Grindelwald, when he was young. To quote the article, “On the surface, Dumbledore’s motives for awarding bonus House points centered on Gryffindor and Neville. Although Gryffindor lost many points due to Harry, Ron, and Hermione misbehaving, their actions prevented Voldemort from stealing the Sorcerer’s Stone, so Dumbledore wanted to reward them. In addition, he wanted to specifically reward Neville for his bravery in trying to stop the trio from costing Gryffindor any more points. By giving Neville House points, Dumbledore was able to reward him in a highly public way, which helped Neville gain his peers’ approval. Given that Neville had been bullied all year, Dumbledore’s actions encouraged Neville to keep standing up for himself even when others disregarded him. However, giving Neville House points may have also been Dumbledore’s way of recognizing that Neville succeeded where he had failed. As a young man, Dumbledore was unable to confront his friend Grindelwald, which resulted in the death of Dumbledore’s sister, Ariana, and Grindelwald’s ultimate rise to power as a dark wizard. The Crimes of Grindelwald revealed that Dumbledore could not face Grindelwald due to having created a blood pact not to fight with him, which he may try to break in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. This inability to stand up to his friend became Dumbledore’s greatest regret, so he was proud of Neville for having done so. Due to this, Dumbledore’s decision to award Gryffindor House points at the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was his way to not only encourage Neville to continue being brave, but honor him for showing a type of bravery that Dumbledore himself had not.” You also misunderstood about why Dumbledore had to have Snape to kill him, which made me think that you probably misunderstood many other things in the story. Please refrain from giving hasty judgements on things you don’t fully and thoroughly understand. There are many people who are relying on your words as guidance 🙏

That’s such a good take with Neville and Dumbledore awarding him points. I never thought about it that way! I’m devoutly Catholic and have read the books since they first came out. I never even thought about the magic. It was about the friendships and the love the characters had for each other and their families. I’m so sick of people viewing it with their own lens and trying to push that on everyone else. Maybe people who suffer from seeing occult imagery everywhere and can’t discern a fictional story shouldn’t read it. But that doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t.

However, in 1995, Dudley faced dementors for the first time. Though a Dementor attack typically forced a person to re-live the worst moments of their life, Dudley's life-so-far of luxury and greed contained no "worst moments," and therefore, during the attack, Dudley saw himself as the spoiled, rotten and cruel bully he truly was. He was thus forced, rather harshly, to realise he needed to change his ways. This led to him regretting his treatment of Harry and his later attempts at reconciliation.[20] The cousins would have a relatively good relationship by 2017: Dudley and Harry visited each other, while their children played together.[21]

Also, one problem with your last statement, just speaking objectively. (About the exponential increase of wicken after the release of HP) Correlation does not mean causation. Yes, is possible. But also since the release of HP in this age of information and how easy it is to gain information, find people who think similarly (via Online message boards, groups, or similar), could also have dramatically aided in the increase. I could offer another statistic: over the last 80 years, since LOTR came out, we have had an over 50% decrease in catholic priests. Yeah it's not inherently the same, but still. There is not explicit proof for the cause of one.

@@tonywalkerYougotswaw good messages can be found in just about anything, but there is still a possibility of putting ones-self into an unsafe/unhealthy environment by reading things that are inherently unsafe/unhealthy for ones soul. I'm not going to tell anyone what to do, but in MY opinion, and with all my research, it seems like HP can be something that can lead one towards the demonic. I believe it depends mostly on the person, their prayer life, their disposition towards their faith and a number of other factors. I believe one needs to be attentive and prayerful. One of the most popular arguments against the HP franchise is father Ripperger's comments. But Trent Horn, from Catholic Answers, Did a great podcast going over the claims and concerns lifted by Fr. Ripperger. The podcast isn't on YT, but searching for "Fr. Ripperger, Harry Potter, and Healthy Skepticism" you can find the podcast. Worth a listen. But again, like most everyone out there, I won't say that HP is ok for Catholics. I don't believe it's an intrinsically evil story, but there are elements that could expose one's soul to the things that *could* lead towards intrinsically evil actions/beliefs. Just like a mortal sin. It all depends on the person and if THEY meet the 3x criteria. A mortal sin for me, might not necessarily be a mortal sin for you, depending on the EXACT circumstances.

@@brandoneich2412 my problem with Fr Ripperger, is he seems to lean on fear quite a bit. Almost trying to scare people away from Harry Potter and telling horror stories of possessed people that read Harry Potter. I just think the better attitude is to approach the books or movies with a prudent and sober minded attitude (just like we should be doing with everything) and not have some great fear of it. Because to live by fear is just not a good way to live. And honestly that kind of fear based spirituality is pretty toxic. They almost act like the devils gonna jump out of that book into us.

@@tonywalkerYougotswaw I agree to an extent. As he is a Priest, and an exorcist, I like to give his word merit and respect given the nature of his life and vocation. However, like Trent Horn says, an argument based on authority alone is a pretty weak argument. So to look at his claims/concerns in an objective and skeptical way (like Trent did) is a healthy approach. A certain amount of doubt, or skepticism is good, even in our own faith, as long as we seek truth and the whole of truth. Personally I have a hard time agreeing with all that Fr. rippiger says on HP. I think he has the best interest of the people in mind, but I think some of the things he says are hyperbolic or misleading. Yes I believe engagement in HP *can* lead towards the satanic, but so can watching a decent amount of mainstream TV. The society today has gone in ways opposed to Christian Doctrine and glorifies it. So we must be careful in all things. I believe people can pull the virtues out of HP and find it useful, but it could also lead others towards damnation if they aren't carful. It's something that I don't think a blanket statement of "HP is ok" or "HP is unsafe" is acceptable. I believe each situation is nuanced.

Voldemort took away Harry’s parents for his selfishness, but the love of his parents never disappeared, it just remained buried deep in Harry’s heart. The love and longing for his parents also became Harry’s faith, a spiritual belief and reliance, a reason for him to be strong and uplifting. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry stumbled into a secret room where he first saw the magic mirror of Erised, which means desire in reverse, so that people can see what they long for most through this mirror. It is the mirror that people can see what they most desire. Professor Dumbledore saw the picture which he was made blood pact with Grindelwald, one of the most powerful dark wizard of the last century, while eleven-year-old Harry Potter saw his parents, whom he has not seen for a long time. “The Potters smiled and waved at Harry and he stared hungrily back at them, his hands pressed flat against the glass as though he was hoping to fall right through it and reach them (Rowling, 1997) .” Love is a two-way street. Parents have love for their children and children have love for their parents, and the overpowering spiritual power of love, on either side, can give a person the determination to overcome anything and the courage to escape from death. Beyond his parents, Harry has the love of Sirius and his aunt. Sirius was a close friend of Harry’s parents who was falsely accused and imprisoned in Azkaban which is the wizarding World’s prison, and saved by Harry and his friends, who have been on the run ever since. He is the most important family member to Harry besides his parents, and he conveys the love of his family to Harry. Compared to Sirius’ simple love for Harry, his aunt’s love is very complex. Lily was found to have magical talent and was highly valued by her family and was sent to Hogwarts to study, while her aunt had no magical talent and had to stay in the Muggle world as a mediocre housewife, so she was jealous and resented her sister, and in Professor Snape’s recollection, she even called her sister a freak out loud. In Professor McGonagall’s eyes, the Vernons were “so unreliable that Harry could never be entrusted to this family”, but when the Vernons opened their door early on the morning and saw Harry in his infancy, they chose to keep him, despite the fact that they had not seen each other for years. Despite treating Harry very differently to their own son Dudley, the Vernons did their best to keep him safe from Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Aunt’s feelings towards Harry are extremely complex, she insists on destroying every invitation letter sent by the owls for admission, in essence fearing that she will lose Harry like she lost her sister many years ago. It is only in this installment of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that Dumbledore reveals to Harry the reason why he must remain with his aunt: “‘She doesn’t love me,’ said Harry at once. ‘She doesn’t give a damn-’ ‘But she took you,’ Dumbledore cut across him. ‘She may have taken you grudgingly, furiously, unwillingly, bitterly, yet still she took you, and in doing so, she sealed the charm I placed upon you. Your mother’s sacrifice made the bond of blood the strongest shield I could give you.’ ‘I still don’t-’ ‘While you can still call home the place where your mother’s blood dwells, there you cannot be touched or harmed by Voldemort. He shed her blood, but it lives on in you and her sister. Her blood became your refuge. You need return there only once a year, but as long as you can still call it home, whilst you are there he cannot hurt you. Your aunt knows this. I explained what I had done in the letter I left, with you, on her doorstep. She knows that allowing you houseroom may well have kept you alive for the past fifteen years’ Please, comment.

Harry Potter in particular had such great love for his friends that he decided to sacrifice himself to Voldemort. This sacrifice conferred Harry's allies a certain amount of protection, thus the spells Voldemort tried to place on them wouldn't hold.[2] Someone full of hate (such as Voldemort himself, Tom Riddle), who had never known love couldn't begin to understand its full magical properties. Love was one of the hardest and strongest kinds of magic and as such, provided the only defence for the Killing Curse. Love was also quite possibly the most mysterious branch of magic and was extremely difficult to comprehend. There was a room devoted to the study of it in the Department of Mysteries.

By subverting the expectation of dragons being inherently evil/dangerous/bad, as being used for good. In fact, they actually move the dragons to live with them, and are now cohabitating. The idea of a dragon steems from the old sumers creation myth that describes Tiamat as a cowlike monster , with scale and horns , in the bible she is also described as " grassing" again like a cow, Marduk kills Tiamat ( the water cowdragon) and uses her body to build the world , this story has its predecessor in the tale of Manus and Yemo, Manus and Yemo are twins and somekind of primordial humans , because they are androgynic beeings but are still described as the first men. They form in a void, and before anything else is formed after that Manus and Yemo are formed a cow( tiamats predessor) is formed and Yemo and Manus " suckles her," and after that the skygod Phtr Dieynos is formed , and other Gods also form in chaos and then Manus decides that he needs a home and kill Yemo that is some kind of Kingfigure in the void , then Manus ( gods hand) uses Yemos Body to create the world.

Are you saying the HTTYD is problematic because it subverts the notion that dragons are evil? If so, your logic does track. However I strongly disagree with the Priest's view that any culture who rightly views good will view dragons as evil. From 5:08 to 5:25 the priest on the right makes his assertion with the only evidence being that "the" dragon represents the devil. Yes, that is true, the devil is represented by a dragon. It is also true that devil is described as a roaring lion. Are lions symbols of evil? No! Jesus is also described as a lion. The surface level reading that dragons are only associated with evil in the Bible is not enough evidence to support the assertion that dragons represent evil no more than lions do. I am not sure if it is a translation error on the part of the KJV, but that version mentions dragons in contexts other than satan.

TDLR: As a Christian you can absolutely read Harry Potter. It’s a Christian story at its core and a beautiful one at that. It has some truly heartbreaking moments and does a great job portraying Christian values along with real life problems. I totally recommend reading it, Death Hallows especially solidifies the series as a Christian series. Sadly though there are a lot of people who can’t actually see the true meaning behind it especially Christians since a lot of people take things way too literally and blow stuff out of proportion for likes and drama. But as a fellow author it’s absolutely a great series and incredibly well done. The Forest Again is absolutely a beautiful chapter and makes the whole series have weight. 10/10 series for Christians.

those are interpretations and harry potter consists of much more than books. This is the first time I hear it be labeled as satanic with those mentions. In other words, you made it satanic under your own terms simply by identifying commonalities with a black mass which I never knew existed. In the bible, I read nothing about a dead fish representing Jesus. Your like the spanish who saw natives wearing horns and automatically assumed them to be satanic or a commonality.

In that same year on Hallowe'en, James' love for his wife and son caused him to stand face to face with the darkest wizard in a century (Lord Voldemort) on his own in an effort to give them time to escape. Also in the same night, Lily's love for her son Harry protected him from Lord Voldemort. He became the only known person in history to survive the Killing Curse, because of the power of Lily's loving sacrifice.[16][17] However, it could be that while love was the motive, the cause of Harry's protection was that Lily had lured Voldemort into a binding magical contract so that having killed her, he would be unable to kill Harry, because he had already promised to spare Lily, and only her offer allowed him to kill her.

2.1. Christian’s Love in Harry Potter The core values of Christ are embodied in the Bible, the canonical classic of Christianity (McGrath, 2016) . The Bible is not only intensely religious in nature, it is also an extremely great work of literature, and many writers have drawn inspiration from reading the Bible. While the Old Testament is mainly an account of the history and cultural development of the Jews and the myths and legends of the origins of the world, the New Testament is a description of what happened after the birth of Jesus, with justification by faith at the heart of the faith. Justification means to be justified by faith, and to be justified means to be judged by God as innocent. The Christian doctrine of original sin states that man’s original sin prevents him from attaining righteousness and that he must be saved from sin by the grace of God and of the Son, Jesus. In the Middle Ages, the Roman Church emphasized justification through good works and holy merit, but the atonement movement led by the willed theologian and Catholic priest Martin Luther became the spark for the Reformation. The Reformation was sparked by the justification by faith slogan, it means to be justification by faith rather than by good works, just as what is said in the Bible Roman: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood-to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith (Riches, 2000) .” As mentioned above, the core belief of the New Testament is justification by faith, so the core value of Christianity is brotherly love. The love of the family and the love of the little family are blended together in a way that is both fraternal and private. The Bible says that “he that loveth not his brother abideth in death”. Thus, Christianity emphasizes love for others. The theme of love is emphasized throughout the Harry Potter, echoing perfectly the core values of Christianity. During his seven years of growing up, Harry Potter has received or spread many kinds of love. The love from Family. The love of Harry’s mother, Lily Potter, for her child is the most obvious love expressed in the entire book. When Harry was one year old, Voldemort’s magic grew stronger so he began to purge himself of dissent. When Voldemort laid his clutches on the Potter family, Lily set up a protection spell for Harry at the expense of herself. The powerful force of love conjured up by this ancient magic actually saved the one-year-old baby from death, and Voldemort’s evil spell failed on Harry, leaving only a permanent scar in the shape of a lightning bolt on his forehead, instead almost killing himself. Voldemort took away Harry’s parents for his selfishness, but the love of his parents never disappeared, it just remained buried deep in Harry’s heart. The love and longing for his parents also became Harry’s faith, a spiritual belief and reliance, a reason for him to be strong and uplifting.

The devil loves to disguise something of darkness with some Christian virtues to look holy. Justin Martyr explains this in his exposition on pagan mythology and how the demons knew the scripture and wrote analogous mythology to lead people astray. It is a book about magic that is the main theme, not love. A mother’s love and someone’s love for their friends, and sacrifice is a large part of what is considered “good” in western culture, not very unique to have that in a book. The church and bible teach that all types of magic are from the demons and a deception. This series and many others now are just a disguise for popularizing and desensitizing us to demonic things.

You are associating a lot of ancient symbols as evil because modern day associate them with that. Despite the fact that the earlier origins were actually considered good symbols, which was black labelled by the early church to try and convert pagan into Christianity. For example dragons were originally meant for symbols of good luck and balance and unity between nature and the spirit world. You will get those early good symbols of dragons in China and the early Celtic myths.
