The crusades had nothing to do with profit or money. It was because the Seljuks Muslims were killing their way into Christian lands in the east in Anatolia. Then Alexios Komnenos asked the Pope for help. So he gave his speech in Claremont and called on Catholic men to defend their brothers in spirit in the east to protect Christiandom. Similarly, in Spain but the Pope urged El Cid and others to stay and fight there.

Christianity declined when Martin Luther listened to the devil and his deceitful doctrines and beliefs. They then spread. Then, thanks to the secret societies of cutters, Satan was able to infiltrate and corrupt so much.

I think there's also a distinction between the impetus behind the Crusades and what actually went on during them. Its totally plausible to say that a military campaign with a morally justifiable purpose was carried out in an amoral manner; I mean, that happens all the time where us fallen humans are involved.
@SRose-vp6ew

The holy land was actually won back by England during world war one and it was returned to the Jews and other Israelites (not just one tribe) after World War II. For the most part the Israelites were forced out of their own land nearly 2000 years before they fully returned, and they still are working towards fully returning(yet the world doesn’t see prophecy fulfilled, they talk about Archduke Ferdinand all confused). You could say that during the fourth crusades evil abounded so no one really got the land. Israel literally turned into a waste land as Samuel Clement documented. Now Israel plants on the land and waters it, but those who are not Israelites literally trash it. I’ve been to Israel and the part of Israel currently called Palestine, I don’t believe anyone would support Palestine if they simply looked at it based on how they treat the land, and I’m not even talking about how they intentionally use children as human shield as they fire rockets made out of donated water pipes from behind them. Even Palestinians are turning against Hamas because Hamas was never on their side as they stole donated resources from Palestinian Civilians and constantly put them in harms way. Israel was letting Palestinians work in Israel, Palestinians destroyed that for the Palestinians by admitting to spending two years doing a planned out unprovoked attack on civilians in Israel.

Except that wasn't a crusade. It was supposed to be a crusade but then they got into crazy byzantine politics. Even before that the venatians got them to attak Zadar, a Catholic city, because hey couldn't pay for the boats otherwise. At that point it stopped being a crusade as everyone who attacked was excommunicated by the pope.

“Crusading,” Professor Jonathan Riley-Smith has rightly argued, was understood as an “an act of love”-in this case, the love of one’s neighbor. The Crusade was seen as an errand of mercy to right a terrible wrong. As Pope Innocent III wrote to the Knights Templar, “You carry out in deeds the words of the Gospel, Greater love than this hath no man, that he lay down his life for his friends.” ~ Thomas Madden, PhD.

I think the reason that most people today think of the Crusades as a shameful thing is because of The War on Terror, and the Iraq War. There is this tendency in people to equate past events with events that are happening in their present lives. People saw Westerners fighting in the Middle East in an unjust war and so came to think of any war where Westerners are fighting in the Middle East as unjust regardless of context.
@Skyv111

not so "unjust" when you consider they WERE also fighting terrorists. Perhaps a lot got SO used to the word "terrorist" that it doesn't anymore give you an idea of WHAT they are... but these people are the same or worse than those Muslims doing Jihad back then: killing anyone and "converting" by the sword (or bomb). So... are the wars against people who LITERALLY threaten the lives of others in *terrifying* ways... really unjustified?

Every society reveres their warriors. The only time we ever question anyone is with Europeans. Europeans even had a trait that originated from the Chivalry system where they revered their greatest opposing warriors and leaders. The remnants of that tradition live on to this day, its why we have all our best military achievements called "Tomahawk" "Apache" "Commanche" etc

No, its different because we're Christians and we have a different moral standard, European, African or otherwise. We don't subscribe to the morality of the Mycenean Age, Pre-Christian Rome, etc. The early Christians were the first prominent people to not just blindly accept their nation's imperial ambitions; Christians in Rome refused conscription and criticized Rome's military aims and their glorification of sacrifice for the state, most memorably in the pages of Augustine's City of God. I'm definitely glad that the Arab conquest of Europe was staved off though. But of course, as Christians, we're going to be critical of military crusades in a way that others might not be; we've got a different standard.

Whats interesting about the Crusades is that we can clearly think of them as some sort of military campaign for the governments of that era as well. Only, given the context, the governments would be wayyy more intertwined with religion at that time. Today, we look through the lens most of the time as a “separation of church and state”, and so it can be hard to put ourselves within the circumstances of being attacked/attacking someone else purely based on faith. It also kinda reminds me of a type of “Old Testament” style of warfare where God saw it necessary to have the ancient lands see bloodshed of the wicked who were against God’s people of ancient Israel. However, the major difference here is that this “Crusade era” would be post-atonement of sins through Jesus Christ shedding His blood for “both Jew and Gentile”, meaning that we fight not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual darkness and sin.

It took nearly 500 years of Islamic Jihadists pillaging the Holy Land, Iberia, and Northern Africa (yes, after the edict of Milan, most of Northern Africa became Christian), along with countless Christians being captured and carted off to Arabia, non combatants being slaughtered and the near collapse of the Greek empire before Christians had enough and retaliated. The crusades were not only morally justified, but most of the brave men who partook in them should be sung as heroes of western civilization, and Christendom broadly. Conquest is a universal fact of human history , so we shouldn’t moralize to Muslims for their conquests efforts, but then we especially should not moralize when Christians rightfully retaliate.

@@luigimrlgaming9484 It's not a surprise protestants did these because their was a primal need in them to undermine the catholic church especially during their early days. Relax... I am catholic, what matters to us Christians in all churches is our relationship with our savior. You should understand that all the churches has bad elements. Just because someone is a catholic or a non-denominational christian doesn't mean he or she actually has a relationship with Christ, some people are just attached to the identity of the Christianity without giving importance to Christ or His teachings.

Agreed. Always leaving parts out like ➡️ The traditional story is that in the year 711, an oppressed Christian chief, Julian, went to Musa ibn Nusair, the governor of North Africa, with a plea for help against the tyrannical Visigoth ruler of Spain, Roderick. Musa responded by sending the young general Tariq bin Ziyad with an army of 7000 troops.

This just proves to me again that you should always learn about why something happened before talking about it. Ive heard about the crusades but never knew anything about it. I never knew what had happened or even what they were really referring to, I just so happened to see this video on my feed and I’m glad I watched it. As a Christian and a us marine and born and bread southerner I don’t like war, I wish there was never war but sometimes as men we have to protect our families and we have to protect women and children, I am glad to have a better understanding of the crusades and am happy to be able to see why they happened and that they were acting in self defense.
