If Southgate rotated the squad properly and never gave certain players a guaranteed place in the starting lineup, perhaps there'd be a bit of a dynamic wrt to players stepping up when coming on to prove a point. This is why England won’t win anything . Instead of trying to force all your good players on the pitch and expecting it to just work out , how about you find the right balance for the team . It’s clear you need pace on the wings , so how about you play Gordon on the left . It’s clear that Jude and Foden can’t play together, no matter how much your force it , 3 games are enough , so you drop one to the bench ( most likely Jude ) and bring them on later It’s clear England lack a tempo setter and someone who can comfortably receive the ball from the keeper and plays it forward , so play Wharton along with Rice . That gives Rice the freedom to play that “Kante” role to break up play and press like he has done for Arsenal when his had Jorghino or Partey next to him It’s clear that Kyle Walker offers nothing and hangs on the ball too long when players make runs , so you drop him and play Trent , who’s one of our best passer and creator . and finally, tell Harry Kane he needs to stop dropping in and stay forward and let the midfielders do their job

Who in that Slovenia team tonight would have caused us so many problems that we couldn’t play Bellingham and rice together? Ian Wright is right to a degree. Saka has plenty of experience on the left and did play as LB at the start of his career so he knows what the left side is all about. I would start him LW though instead of LB. Then maybe move him back later on to bring Gordon on against tired legs. Saka isn't played at RW for Arsenal because hes bad on the left. He's played there because it gets the best out of their team as a whole with the players they have. England is a different setup so moving Saka to the left for England currently would make more sense to get the most out of the team as a whole rather than focusing on trying to just get the best out of only Saka. In terms of individual play, Palmer is the biggest initiative taker in the Prem right now. By that I mean he isn't playing with hard drilled habits forcing a specific system. He is creative enough that he can play to a system but also find the freedom to make things happen even from just crumbs. So if you want to maximise your chances for scoring then you have to play him with how he is at this point in his career.

All we were able to do is roll the ball out to Saka with his back to goal. Not one point did we ever get an overload when he had the ball so he could have a run at his defender. We have lots of issues but Saka isn’t one of them. When he looks up he’s got no runners in behind or on the overlap. It’s so poor from Southgate.

@DanielWilliams-pv4gr If it's so predicable then why do it work time after time for Arsenal? Walker never overlaps, when Saka does make the runs in behind we just pass it backwards, Saka tried to play with Bellingham multiple times but Bellingham either took too many touches or couldnt play the simple pass back, get Foden in the middle & you'll see a completely different england team.

@@MrBuurh It's predictable - pretends to run central runs wing - gets touched jumps on the floor. I don't care how much of an arsenal fan you are. They can't win anything either way.

Palmer, mainoo, gordon provided more forward passes, made more attacking impact than gallagher, saka, foden made in this game and the denmark game combined. These youngsters are fearless, the argument always is what if they give the ball away or cause a goal against, the starting 3 have given the ball away and gone backwards in all 3 games constantly. Foden especially has lost the ball a load of times.
