Hope you see this comment and highlight, because I'm an EMT about to hit y'all with an anatomy lesson to highlight why shooting thighs and/or abdomen are terrible ideas: First, to build on the point of the femoral artery, there is also the femur itself which may potentially break if hit. Now medical staff have two injuries to treat. Further the femoral artery can still be hit by metal fragments (my understanding is that police use hollow points) and now fragments of bone causing the patient to bleed inside the thigh. Now for the abdomen, there's still numerous organs and blood vessels in there. For blood vessels, there is the descending aorta (which bifurcation into the femoral ateries) but also the inferior vena cava. Hitting either one will make the patient bleed out internally. But even if those get missed, there are still the organs; best case, you hit a solid organ like the liver or kidneys, which will bleed a lot. But, more likely, you would hit a hollow organ like the intestines or stomach, which will release blood plus whatever was inside into the abdominal cavity where now you have bleeding plus the potential for sepsis. Finally, though it's pretty unlikely, there's the possibility that the bullet could hit the spinal column. Will it kill them? No, but they'll be paralyzed from the waist down the rest of their life. So officer safety notwithstanding, you are not (repeat, *NOT*) doing suspects any favors by either still killing them, giving them other life threatening conditions, or permanently crippling them. TL;DR this policy is bad and they should feel bad

@@officer401 The solution to this non-problem is so obvious that I’m shocked no one else has thought of it. Stop using lead and gunpowder based weapons entirely and instead issue Nerf guns. The worse that might happen is someone has a minor eye injury. But the way it works is that the officer would fire his Nerf gun, on fully auto, at the threat and the threat would immediately start laughing so hard he would collapse onto the ground and with the tears streaming out of his eyes, he wouldn’t even see when the cop casually walked over and handcuffed him. BRILLIANT! Problem solved. And I developed this technique from the comfort of my nicely cushioned swivel chair in less than 5 minutes. Talk about efficiency! Don’t thank me. I’ll be happy to send you a complete training plan, in PowerPoint for only a small, nominal gratuity of $5,000. In addition the purchase of said training plan entitles you to have me come to your location and present the training in person at a discounted rate of $200 per hour plus per diem and 5 star hotel accommodations. 😜Take care. It’s crazier out there than ever.

@@officer401 The Leg has the Femoral Artery, Arms have the Brachial Artery, both of which will kill you just as dead as a Center Mass Shot (but will just put the Officer at more risk of shooting something/someone they didn’t intend.) Never mind in an average Police Shooting there are well above just one Shot as well! They must figure these Officers are going to be Snipers with their Pistols that aren’t even equipped with a Shoulder Stocks. Edit: I see you mentioned the Femoral Artery.

Snipers are actually taught to shoot center Mass for the same reason, it's the one part that doesn't move. Also, in reference to the femoral artery comment you made, when someone is shot in their gut there is a saying that goes, when the blood turns black grab a body bag from the back. It can be a very slow and inhumane way to die. I, in no way endorse deadly shooting, but if left with no choice then the obvious solution is the quickest and most efficient one. I served rather briefly in the Danish army, and they acturly have seperation between "Lethal force" and "shooting to incapacitate" in the latter of escalation (use of force rulebook). "So for instance if someone is running away with a stolen rifle, you don't have reason to beleive they're otherwise armed, and you can safely, and with high chance of sucess do it, shoot for the legs to incapacitate. If not, escalate to lethal force, and shoot center mass. By the way, it's practically impossible to get a hit on a running target's legs at 100 meters *wink* " - The captain who instructed us.

As someone who has been stabbed and shot in the legs and an arm, I can tell you hitting there will NOT stop the threat. Three punks tried to rob me and got a hit in both legs and my dominant arm, yet I was able to fight them off AND gave them worse injuries WITH MY HANDS than they did me WITH GUNS AND KNIVES. Oh I felt it when the threat was over and the adrenaline was ebbing off, but that took minutes AFTER I hurt the punks to start occuring. Even then, I still walked half a mile until someone saw me and drove me to a hospital. I retained consciousness the whole time. Point being, this new policy WILL fail.

First of like to say, you don't need to apologize for not making videos. Number one job of your life is taking care of your family, that sounds like you are doing very well!! Second, I don't totally agree on this new policy. Yes, if one feels their life is at risk, deadly force should not be a 2nd source. But there are many calls where maybe a less of a kill shot could have been done. Can't truly say yes or no, all incidents have their issues and without one being in the officers shoes, don't make a judgement on the situation. Don't rely on the media either, again one will not see or hear all that went done on the specific incident. And 3rd, its has always been said if you only wound a person, its now open for them to sue you. Who wants to go through that Bullshit! Anyways, thank you for the video. I love watching your channel. This is the type of stupidity that you get when leader ship is weak when your leader ship is worried more about avoiding lawsuits then keeping their officers and the community safe. If anything this policy is likely to cause more lawsuits and at the very least more officer deaths. If I were a defense attorney I would chew that agency up and spit them out the first time are use the force incident takes place using this idiotic policy. I don’t understand it. I interpreted this as just reinforcing the concept that if you don’t have to shoot someone in the head, don’t. This seems relatively obvious, but it’s insane how often cops enact very aggressive means of incapacitating people that don’t pose the kind of threat the warrants it. It sounds like the policy allows officers to maintains discretion as well from what was read, so I don’t understand where the problem is. This just appears to say “Try not to instantaneously murder someone unless you have to, but even if you do, we can still justify it anyway thanks to our robust union power.”

That department is ridiculous. While they may or may not reduce deaths among criminals. It will almost certainly cause MORE death or serious bodily injury to police officers and civilian bystanders.

La Grange officers should also greatly reduce their speed on roads to reduce the risk of hitting pedestrians. I think a 15 mph top speed. Don’t worry, citizens of La Grange, they’ll still get there to take statements and write up their report, and as an added bonus the bad guy will be long gone so no one will need to get shot by the cops. I mean, they might need to have an ambulance come with to bag up whoever the bad guy killed, but hey, they weren’t killed by cops and as we all know, that’s all that matters.

Cops now have to be like: “hold on there sir lemme aim at you in a non-lethal spot”🤦

If I’m responsible for what happens when I fire my weapon as a citizen. Cops should be equally responsible for what happens when they fire theirs. So I say the training should be better and focused on assessing threats. With more accountability for when that weapon is used. If a cop can’t meet the standards of required training. He doesn’t get a service pistol. He gets non lethal and has to call for backup from cops that are qualified. Obviously that doesn’t work everywhere. Rural areas don’t have the money of the big cities. They also don’t have that many coworkers. But from my knowledge of people in more rural areas. Their cops are more peace officers. They’re friends with everyone in the area. So if something happens. They are well acquainted with who they are looking for.

Anytime you discharge a firearm at someone it is lethal force no matter where you aim and if you have the skill to target specific parts of the body. If it’s not a lethal force encounter you can’t use a gun period. You would have to consider the use of a less than lethal device or other tactics. The death of policing is officially here. Thank you Oklabama PD.

I agree, I think it's a bad policy. If I was on a jury and a cop shot to kill a dangerous felon...not guilty. A cop has a right to defend themselves. No matter where you hit them, if your life is in danger, it shouldn't matter. I hate how wacky our politics have gotten in the recent years..

I believe the idea that was proposed is a horrible idea. Say you were shooting for the arm or leg and one of the bullets accidentally hit a passerby and killed them. What’s next you get charged with murder? Some people don’t look at the full outcome of the situation.

You should not shoot warning shots because you may inadvertently shoot someone else involved or not involved causing harm beyond the intended threat. I was always taught to STOP THE THREAT and know what is around / behind the threat to PREVENT collateral damage/ harm.

1) Love your content man I hope you and the family are doing good! 2) That department is literally creating a whole new variable that is now gonna make them worry even more now if they did the job to department policy, I won’t be surprised if more walk off the job. On top of the the lower extremities have some of the most vital arteries that are harder to stabilize if nicked Plus being shot in the lower abdomen doesn’t mean guaranteed survivability, it most definitely means much longer durations of agony until medical services arrive, it’s honestly a slower version of pain which is most definitely inHumane which is something law enforcement is trying to avoid. Just my option! Be safe @officer401 and everyone else!
