Daniel Alfredsson definitely deserves to be in, but the fact that Mogilny isn't in is crazy. Mogilny averaged over a point per game, had over over 1,000 points, 2nd highest scoring Russian when he retired of all time (He's 4th now). He is a member of the triple gold club , scored 127 points in a single season. Only 3 players in history have scored more goals than Mogilny's 76 in 92-93 (Gretzky x2, Lemieux and Brett Hull). He was the First Russian born captain of an NHL Club. First Russian Allstar. First 1,000 point player born in the continent of Asia. AND the way in which he entered the NHL, opened up the way for all future Soviet/Russian players to come over. If that isn't a HHOF career I dont know what is.

I mean I think the clear cut issue is he was never the best player. He never won a single major award (He won a lady byng but if anything I think most view that as a negative. It gives you a reputation as being a soft player). And I mean Teemu Selanne while technically not scoring more goals at also 76 he had more points that year and would get the tie breaker and would be listed ahead as well. Just saying. I understand why he's not in. Alfie is actually a similar case. Alfie was very good, and very good for a long time. But he was never the best player at anything really. Alfie won a Calder, and sort of got a lifetime achievement nod when he won the Messier. But he was never the best goal scorer, the best setup guy, the best overall player. He was always just very good. And when you play in an era where a lot of other guys were also very good. But also led the league in stuff pretty regularly it makes it entirely understandable why they aren't in.

Are you joking Alfredsson is better than him ,he made it in Stanley Cup finals and Calder trophy and more, nice try
@BloggerMusicMan3 жыл бұрын
I'm an Ottawa Senators fan and Daniel Alfredsson was one of my favourite players growing up. He means a lot to me, so I'm definitely biased. If I'm trying to look at his career objectively, which is admittedly difficult, I think you can make a case for him for sure. I think he'll get in one day, but he's not first ballot. He was an important part of an Olympic gold medal winning team in 2006. He was a Calder winner and a six-time All-Star with more than 400 goals and 1000 points. He was a longtime captain of a perennial playoff contending team, including making a Stanley Cup Final and winning a Presidents Trophy. He was an excellent, borderline Selke-quality defensive forward and his offensive abilities were also substantial. That's a pretty outstanding career. But there are only about 4-5 players that get in every year. If I'm thinking about who is eligible next year -- Roberto Luongo, Rick Nash, the Sedins, Henrik Zetterberg -- on top of who else could go in, like Alexander Mogilny, Theo Fleury, Jeremy Roenick, Curtis Joseph, Keith Tkachuk, etc, it's plausible he gets in, but it's a discussion. I think Mogilny should go in first. He should have been inducted a long time ago. He is easily the most talented player not currently in the Hall of Fame. More than a point-per-game in the NHL, a year where he scored 76 goals (which led the league along with Teemu Selanne), a Stanley Cup champion (admittedly not the biggest factor on that Devils team, but still should be noted), six-time All-Star, Lady Byng winner, Olympic champion, and World Champion. He's also a trailblazer for Russian players coming over to North America, taking a substantial personal risk to come here. His impact on the game is huge. Easy vote for me. Apart from that, I think Luongo and the Sedins both get in next year. That brings it up to four. If there's only one more, Alfredsson for me is in the mix with Joseph, Roenick, Zetterberg, and Fleury. I think it's reasonable to argue for any of those guys. I might pick Alfredsson, but it's not by any stretch a slam dunk.
@Wexter00832 жыл бұрын
I don't think the Sedins should be first ballots though. They both were fantastic in 2010 and 2011, but they also never won a Cup (which I think should be a consideration for a first ballot) they also could not keep that quality up consistently throughout their career (the first four seasons of their career was rough) and only made the All-Star game 3 times. Rick Nash is another player I think should not be a first ballot for similar reasons, but I think he has more All-Star game appearances and like the Sedins no Cup. I do agree that Luongo should be a first ballot easily. One of the best goalies of his generation, two Olympic Golds and a Messier (as a goalie). Out of next year's eligbles I think it should be Luongo, Alfredsson, Zetterberg and Mogilny. To me the Sedins getting in before Alfredsson would be a crime to Swedish hockey.

Played over 1000 games, was part of one of the most dominant lines in hockey from 2004-2009, Multiple NHL awards from the Calder, Messier Leadership Award to the King Clancy, 6 All-Star Game appearances, 15 years his team made the Playoffs and won gold at the Olympics, and was the first Swedish player to Captain a team to the Stanley Cup finals and he played an insane 18 years in the NHL and would had be 19 if not for the lockout. @@flyingtiger1603 injuries do that. How many Cups does Sundin have? Look at their playoff points, especially considering Sundin played almost twice as long as Forsberg. How many Art Rosses and Harts did Sundin win? Forsberg also is 4th all-time in assists per game and 8th all-time in points per game. Forsberg was a 1st team all-star player 3 times, Sundin was only a 2nd team all-star player 2 times. Forsberg also is part of the Triple Gold Club, and the only Swede to win each title twice. And he did it while playing on some teams that didn't play defense. A lot of the stats we track now just weren't tracked back then. But I'd guarantee he had enormous ATOI. He had huge amounts of hits and blocks. He finishes his career +260. He was top 10 in Norris voting 4 times He won the King Clancy award. He won a bunch of cups. Whenever you are the best at something for an era you deserve to be in the hall.

Isn't he only behind Matts Sundin? My argument is if this is about Cups and international achievements don't matter why is Matts Sundin in and not Daniel Alfredsson? Both players only broke 100pts in a season once, both won Gold, both won the Messier Leadership and both had over 5 All-Star game appearances. If anything Alfie achieved a bit more than Matts in less time in the NHL like scoring a Calder and a King Clancy, plus making it to the Finals and appeared in over 50 more playoff games. If Matts Sundin is in the Hall than Alfredsson should be in the Hall. It should just be that simple. If anything when Alfie gets in the guy giving the speech at the induction should be Matts. They are the closest comparable in this discussion.
