If a remake of enter the dragonfly is to ever happen, I’d honestly prefer to just leave it to the fans. Mostly because an official remake would just bring back bad memories of the original game like you mentioned in the video. If I ever were to be a game developer, I’d actually love to remake this game myself. And your ideas sound like they could actually work. As for Ripto’s return, I did actually have a headcanon in one of my previous Spyro videos where I talked about how I would make my own game. I’d probably have a ETD remake start with both Ripto surviving the lava and teaming up with Gnasty Gnorc like in the epilogue of Spyro 3.

I remember some guy on KZbin called Mr. FO1 who is so dedicated to this game he posted a trailer for a mod that will fix it and even restore unused content. That's a massive task I respect and another fan project that deserves just as much attention as the Reignited fan remake of Spyro Enter the Dragonfly
@negligible_reality9 ай бұрын
Personally I would love to see this game get remade and get the chance it properly deserves to be something actually good. I feel like Enter the Dragonfly, Wrath of Cortex, and even Twinsanity could have been really good if they were given more development time and kept all or at least the majority of the scrapped content. There's actually a work-in-progress mod for Reignited that's attempting to recreate and remake a ton of content from Enter the Dragonfly and serve as a fanmade remake of sorts, which is really cool to see. As much as I'd love to see a proper remake of this game, I'd much prefer seeing a completely new installment in the franchise with an original story rather than another remake, just like what they did with Crash 4: It's About Time.

According to the PS1 version the "plasma bomb" looks like it was actually meant to just be Spyro spitting out the orbs he just collected. Also did you know that Mr Fo1 also celebrated Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly's 20 years in 2022. He left something in the description leading to something that describes all 20 of ETD's planned big levels.

An interesting idea... I'd have to see this game with much better graphics and zero glitches before pursing the idea further. The controls were so wonky and frustrating that it was ages before I even beat the game. That boss fight and how there was no time to recover between hits, insanely frustrating. Having all the dragonflies made it feel like a rehash of the previous game with the baby dragons so I wouldn't bring that back. The diff. breaths worked really well for Hero's Tail so would definitely keep that. My one personal nitpick, also, was the soundtrack. Stewart Copeland was brilliant in the original trilogy, but only the music from Honey Marsh was memorable- at least in my opinion.
@1ace10009 ай бұрын
To me, it's a complicated thing. Growing up with EtD as my first owned Spyro game ever, I can say that what's even salvagable from the game at all is just the level themes, the vehicle minigames, and having certain NPCs (like the baby dragons and their respective dragonflies). Beyond that, it's... Not really worth _that kind_ of revisit, outside of the fan project, just that it would work better instead as extra side content to a newer game instead. In fact, if anything I think AHT is the _only one_ worthy of seeing a remake or at least a remaster similar to the KH-HD "Story So Far" collection, all without having to change much other than QoL improvements, re-tuning for controls, model mesh and HD texture upgrades, a secondary dialogue/character interaction option that is less... *Childish* than the original, with the said original dialogue being toggle-able (like with the soundtracks in Reignited), a few worthwhile bug fixes, an *overhaul* for one particular minigame (Blink's specifically), amongst maybe a few other things here and there. So yeah... _Also the spin-off trilogy for GBA because those games actually do deserve remasters much like how the MMBN collection received such._

The game was so rushed and incomplete that heavily damaged his name for a long time, but also it feels unfair to leave it like that. I feel that the game can be remade, or if we want to go further, revamp or soft-reboot it to rework most of the animations, story and mechanics so the game feels like a new fresh take. Like grab something people is afraid to, and turn it into something else that they might grow to enjoy. It may sound too fantasious but I can dream. The points you mentioned make lots of sense, there's a lot to replace, erase and add and that might go right or wrong, but to be sure, it has to happen. Great video!

As was previously said, for those who want Enter the Dragonfly remade, a fan project is it's best bet and extremely unlikely to ever be in a official capacity, so far we have gotten that through Mr.F01 via a Mod that fixes it's many, many issues the other was taking Assets from Reignited to convert it into ETD and for what little we seen of the project, it's quite impressive. All in all I just want the next Spyro game to be it's own thing and not be dragged down by a 20 year old disappointment, it's what Crash did and benefited from it so why not for Spyro.
@marblwrexbro4589 ай бұрын
I think the developers knew they weren’t going to be able to include all the content they wanted to, so they made the existing levels bigger. But that just meant they felt empty and not really fun to explore. If a development company did want to remake ETD, it would have to include all the levels that originally planned, fix all the bugs and glitches, scrap the bubble breath as catching the dragonflies felt like a chore, improve the story and something better than the cliched ending. If we had some concept art or had some ideas pitched to us fans that were cut from the game, I would be curious to find out what they were but I don’t think I would be desperate to make it happen unless there was something amazing cut from the game that we don’t know about.

I'm not sure if the Cloud level idea of "half the level is night, half is day" was meant as the level having a day/night cycle, I think it was meant literally that half of the space is day and the other is night, or that maybe you could manually switch them, or maybe something similar to the light/dark concept in Dark Passage, but not that the whole level dynamically changes time of day.
@MiharuTheFox9 ай бұрын
It's hard to say, but when I was working on the retrospective with Mr. FO1, he said an actual day/night cycle was planned in some capacity. This is just the only piece of "evidence" I had to show for that statement.

@jojogape9 ай бұрын
I personally think a day-night cycle might be best for open world games like AHT. Maybe it's the Jak and Daxter conditioning, but if the game is going to be set in many different, clear cut levels like the original trilogy, I personally prefer the specific times of day, so that artists have full creative control over the lighting setup and color palette. Open world games, on the other hand, gain an extra level of realism with the day-night cycle, since part of the appeal is precisely in that realistic exploration gameplay.

It would be a good idea for the Spyro Enter the Dragonfly to be remade. If it can meet the expectations for the fans and not have the plot be shoehorned and a mess, and the gameplay polished, it would be a a lot fun. Sonic 2006 was awful, but Spyro Enter the Dragonfly deserves another chance despite the disaster it went through.

I'd rather they just make an entirely new game, like Crash 4. I can't remember anything of value from the OG PS2 when I played it as a kid. Also they could just do what they did with Crash 4 and continue from where they left off, like the idea of Nasty Gnorc and Ripto working together, like the original plans. The Reignited Trilogy, built some many new idea, it be a crime to not include them. Also, yes that last part of its name being poison is pretty true, get some would a remake, but that would mean they would have to remake the same nothing burger cutscenes. Also they should bring back Elora, tho with Team Rumble, this could be a big possibility. :3

I think with the way emulation is going, it will soon be possible for fans to fix the bugs themselves. We already have people restoring deleted content and basically making expansion packs for PS2 games, and some people are also remastering the PS1 CTR. Improving the graphics is already possible for anyone that wants to bother going through it all, so I would prefer a new Spyro game. It's not like it could be any worse... right?.

I'm definitely more for seeing a Spyro 4 which maybe takes the cool elements of Enter the Dragonfly (and other Spyro games). Basically what Crash 4 did when picking out the cool ideas from several 00s Crash games. But in regards to the idea of a ETD remake, like, I get why people can be attached to it. Despite all the issues, there's a certain charm to the basic ideas found in the game, resonated via the visuals, gameplay, and music. Which I do feel is where the game's true "identity" lies. The toughest part is that like you said Miharu, ETD is very short. If the game was to be expanded on, then what would the added new levels be like? I guess the question is, is there a constant theming to the levels ETD already has? What makes ETD's levels/world what it is? That is, if there are any real threads connecting them at all.
@SplashSurfer2169 ай бұрын
It’s great to see another video that asks this question. While I honestly doubt Activision, TFB, or any other company they own would be willing to look back on ETD and either recreate it or borrow elements from it, it would be an interesting idea. I for one, would like to see a group of dedicated fans try to remake the game themselves, and try to rebuild it from the ground up or using whatever assets are available from the original game. Like how people are doing with Project 06 and the Rayman Raving Rabbids: Reburrowed project which takes the original concept for Raving Rabbids back when it was intended to be a Rayman 4 and finishes it up. In fact, I can say that I am among those fans, who is putting together concepts and a game design plan for a completely reimagined version of ETD, which while staying true to the original art style of the original game makes improvements and adds previously cut or scrapped ideas. It’s still in early development and writing, but I do have plans to work on it.

I don’t think that Spyro Enter The Dragonfly should get a remake/remaster. The reason is that the game got bad reviews when it 1st came out. It launched with bugs and glitches. In my opinion, I really like that there’s different dragon breaths for Spyro to use like use his electric breath to power up machines. I’m not the fan of the bubble breath and it’s only used for catching dragonflies. My main issue is that the loading takes longer than expected. I was playing the PS2 version and I had to switch to a different disc in order to get to the 1st level. If Spyro Enter The Dragonfly took time to polish, it would’ve been great. Maybe in future Spyro, I think that elemental breaths will return, but use them in a different way.

truthfully remake is the wrong word you'd have to add so much and change so much that we'd be talking Reincarnation basically. the spirit of the thing is there but the form and experiance are brand new.
@linksnivey11619 ай бұрын
While straight up remaking it could be good, I think doing it like that could possibly be too risky from an executive angle. Not risky for the executives, but for what the people on the project would probably want to do as depending on what upper management would know about the game, they could force the project to go several different ways. Maybe one wouldn't want to spend the resources to revive every old idea and just remake the game as is without as many bugs, the developers feeling like they have to throw something else in to try and make the eventual $60+ game feel more worth it. Maybe they'd be aware of the game's trash reputation and make it some kind of self mocking thing where there's constant meta jokes to what the game originally was, the remake ending up as a parody. Making a game that's merely based on and uses ideas from Enter the Dragonfly would be the best I think, not mentioning it to the execs at all and making essentially a remake or similar thing, the goal kept between the team members.

I never got to beaten it either because of all the glitches and time it took. I wouldn't want to add Enter the dragonfly to my game adventure list. But I would sure love to see a new Spyro game sequel. And hopefully this time they'll work on it really well and make it more right. And have you played Spyro a hero's tail? Compared to ETD it didn't seem that bad. Though the controls were pretty confusing and getting the collectibles was pretty hard. Still, I managed to beat the game no problem. Well anyway, I sure would like to see a new Spyro game that's compared to the reignited trilogy. And I hope it doesn't stink as bad as ETD.

What's funny is some fans want 4 playable dragons in the game. Being Spyro as leader alongside Cynder as well as Flame and of course even Ember, too. They said to name their groups either the Dragons or maybe even Team Spyro? What do you make of this, Miharu? Do you think they need to be a team or follow Spyro during gameplay lile Sonic Heroes from Sonic The Hedgehog or some other game perhaps?
@negligible_reality9 ай бұрын
Ember and Flame are such non-entities in the franchise, and only appear in a small handful of games (only two, to my knowledge). It always confuses me when people mention bringing them back, especially as playable characters. I wouldn't mind them being brought back as NPCs or perhaps being referenced in some way, but I just don't think they're interesting enough to be playable. Cynder makes more sense IMO because she's more well known, and could fill a similar role to Coco over in the Crash games in terms of gameplay and narrative. Flame is incredibly generic in terms of writing, and is also literally just a palette swapped version of Spyro. Ember is more unique in her design compared to Spyro and Flame, but her only character trait is that she's a girl and that she has an obsessive crush on Spyro. Cynder on the other hand is unique in design, and has lots of room for interesting narrative directions without having to be completely overhauled and rewritten like Ember and Flame would. The only real change that would need to be made for Cynder is that she'd have to be tweaked a bit so that she would seamlessly fit in within the world that was established in the original trilogy.

While i'm all for a remake that could potentially be an apologetic love letter to Check6 and Equinox... and a middle finger to Universal; It's pretty much a double-edge sword. If it were up to me, I would still remake the game, but I would also remake Season of Ice and Season of Flame to go along with it. While a director's cut remake of EtD would be a good game, it wouldn't sell well due to the original's bad rep; but if it were packaged with remakes of the two preceeding games, that would entice buyers to pick it up. Also, Nintendo doesn't usually rerelease third party titles, so it's a perfect opportunity. Also, anyone calling this the worst has never played Orange, Shadow Legacy, or console Eternal Night before

The only things I did NOT like was that darn Tiki drum minigame {no telling how many times I had to do that}, the tank minigames and Ripto's boss fight. The 'Year of the Dragon' Festival segment was cute, but they could've done SO MUCH BETTER with it, especially at the beginning and ending. I don't think I even got 100% on here, unlike how I did on my try with Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 when I was younger back in the early days of the 90s.

My opinion before watching: No, But yes... Sort of. The big issue with "Remaking" EtDf is the severe lack of levels, Only 8 in total. *EIGHT!* Even Spyro 2, The Original trilogy game with the lowest level count had about 6 or 7 levels a WORLD, And there was 3 of them. That's more than double EtD's count. And if TfB wants to make the future Spyro games bigger and better, They should try to get to Spyro 3's count, which was 21. Not overly bloated, But not too few. But by this logic, The original EtD only has enough for a *THIRD* of that. At that point, Ship of Theseus. Is it even a EtD remake anymore? Not to say the levels are bad...Even though they are, But not the concepts. Some of the level ideas here could be recycled for a good game and get some proper mileage out of them. A farm under attack by aliens, A hideout of the thieves that have been hounding you all this time, A dream like world in the clouds. All great ideas that could, And SHOULD be expanded on. Should a full fledged remake be made? Nah. But the ideas here have real potential. They just need time and effort put into them.

As someone who wishes it to be remade to the glory it should have had to begin with, it doesn’t *deserve* to be remade, but it would be nice to see it done. I would love to see EtD fans to be given Justice they should have gotten. Marketing may be messy af due to how poorly received it got before though, so it’s not guaranteed that it would get much fanfare outside the community. It would be so cool to see more fans make fanmade concept art of the characters, gameplay concepts, and realms based on that game, but with a twist and flair to them

The problem of remastering or remaking the game is that this is just a complete disaster of a game. Nobody wants to play enter the dragonfly, the game has barely any levels, and the levels they do have are designed horribly making them really boring to play. A remake imo would just not work with how far gone this game is. You would need to fix up every level in the game and the hub to make them actually fun to play with, along with adding 2-3+ more hubs to travel to and tripling-quadrupling the levels in the game. At that point it wouldnt feel like enter the dragonfly anymore unless you kept the original 2002 graphics, but knowing people they are going to want graphics that the reignited trilogy has, making it feel even less like enter the dragonfly
