Not only are there millions of people who are labeled ex cons as a product of a messed up justice system to begin with, not only have they payed their debt to society, BUT when we disenfranchise people who have been convicted and make they harder to succeed in life and be full fledged members of society that feeds into the cycle of crime where they turn to illegal alternatives because they can't get a job etc etc. And there are millions of people now who served prison sentences and are free now but they don't have a voice in our democracy. Not giving them the right to vote is voter supression and anti democratic. And it's illogical. Their sentence says "3 to 4 years," not, "3 to 4 years plus a lifetime of having no voice and being disadvantaged". You want to give people longer sentences you want to punish them harder that's one thing. I don't agree with that but if you feel that way that's your prerogative. But once they have served their sentence there is not justification for shortchanging their rights as members of our society.

Also, what about the removal of voting rights as a deterrent to crime? I think it makes sense to restore voting rights to former felons and can also serve as a deterrent to become a repeat offender.
