This is a really thorough video of your Bowflex. Thank you for the review. You did an excellent job presenting. This is a great value for a home gym. You pretty much get everything considering all the exercises you can do along with the build quality at $500. There are not many quality home gyms that can compete with Bowflex at this price point. Weider 2980 and 6900 come under $300/400 respectively. Marcy's home gyms seem to be where the quality is if you opt for real weights. That only comes in around $500 also, more on other models. Other makes and models that compare to Marcy would be in the $750 range. My point is that Bowflex's price at $500 can compete with other home gyms costing more. My only real concern is how it feels vs. real weights. Do you find the quiet resistance of the Bowflex satisfying or is this an acquired 'taste' vs. the 'clanking' noise and consistent feel of real weights during your range of motion?
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron, thanks for your comment! I think the clanging or rattle of the weights is really satisfying when counting reps. These days almost all my workouts on the Bowflex are HIIT (to a timer). As soon as I made that switch, I didn't miss the noise or rhythm of free weights. I don't know if I've ever used those exact Weider gyms, but I haven't loved similar machines. In my experience the resistance could be jerky and the limited bench settings/pulleys made for too few exercises.

I'm looking at replacing my free weights with a home gym. I'm in my 50's and home gyms seem to be safer than free weights. I do not have anyone to spot me while I do bench presses and that can be dangerous. I can't push myself hard enough because of that danger. I'm looking at Bowflex and a system with weights. This video is pushing me towards the Bowflex.

Glad to hear it. If you regularly do sets of bench press with 155lbs or more and just want to replicate that experience on the PR1000, you're going to be disappointed. Full resistance on the PR1000 is going to be something like 125-130lbs. For me, the lack of resistance only becomes a problem for chest workouts. (For reference, my 1-rep max was ~210lb.) I think that I found a really good solution to that though by incorporating a Yoga Ball (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWfZhnh_ndKrkLc). Note that I do plan to re-record that workout sometime. The audio quality isn't great. If you're still on the fence, check out my lift library & workout vids. If the workouts aren't your style, the lift library will give you an idea of all the lifts you can do on the Bowflex. I have vids coming out tomorrow for back and abs to accompany the chest, biceps, and triceps vids that are already there. Good luck and you should circle back and post with whatever you end up deciding! Thanks for the comment!

I ended buying the extreme 2. I am also 50 years old now and find the Bowflex provides the perfect workout for me. It is incredibly smooth in the movement and easier on the joints. The resistance is not necessarily to be considered as a unit of pounds. I am also not sure if the rods are proportionally in their resistance, i.e. a 20 rod is not really the same resistance as two 10 rods, neither is it 40% of a 50 rod. The Bowflex Extreme allows a full body workout in about 20 to 25 min. because it does not require pulley or cable rerouting during the workout compare to the other Bowflex models. I consider it partly cardio or circuit training since you can really move from one exercise to the next without a break. My 2 cents. Good Luck!
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
Norman, glad to hear it and check out the rest of the channel for circuit workouts! Agree on not all the power rods being proportional. Between that and their weight being overstated, it's a little weird when comparing to free weights or other machines. But that doesn't have to get in the way of a good workout! Thanks for the comment.

Great video. Question - can you purchase a lat pull down bar for the PR 1000 unit instead of using the separate handles?
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 ай бұрын
Thanks and yes. It can be hard to find a Lat Bar that is compatible with it since almost every Lat Bar on the market uses a single, central clip though. It does make a big difference because the handles have a lot of slack in them and with the Bar resistance kicks in earlier in the rep. You can find one that I like here: bowflexworkouts.com/products/pulldown-row-bar I also just started selling an Upgrade Kit that I highly recommend for this machine. It is definitely the best way to upgrade the resistance, comes with a Lat Bar, and a bunch of other stuff to improve your Bowflex experience bowflexworkouts.com/products/flat-bench-upgrade-kit-with-lat-bar

it is a good machine and can increase your independence by reducing the need for spotter. I have trained with bowflex older model of power pro, I have tried squat attachment but felt that the resistance did not feel right and the cables limit the motion ie if taller person the max bend of the rod may be not a full finish of the exercise. I did max out the resistance and have a purvis bar which widens the lower pulley which adds greater ability to perform crossed pulley exercises- but note the resistance lessens as the rods bend differently then when in standard more arrow positioning. I did train biceps with BF(bowflex) and did go to gym to ascertain if my strength diminished any,suprisingly it hadn't but the resistance is definitely different than free weights. There is great amount of research on free weights as they have been around much longer than the home equipment of a BF but some research is available - "The Bowflex Body Plan: The Power is Yours - Build More Muscle, Lose More Fat" by Ellington Darden. I did have an injury not related to exercising and this equipment did help greatly. my Son utilizes this as well. And we find that the of the exercises does offer similar exercises as say you tube videos, or even in a traditional gym.

It looks like there's not much much resistance in the beginning of the motion. I was thinking about getting one but I think I'll pass. One of the best machines I've ever used was the Total Gym. It actually works and you never outgrow it. You can find used ones online for about $100. Folds up and slides under the bed or in your closet.

"Not much much resistance in the beginning of the motion." That's accurate. Resistance increases throughout the rep. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that bad and it definitely takes some time to get used to that. I think that type of resistance works well for HIIT style routines, but usually not great for low rep style work. I owned a Total Gym way back, maybe 20 yrs ago. I felt like I outgrew it really fast since you could only do a fraction of your body weight. I always felt like they needed some bars or bands so you could add extra resistance. Fun machine to workout on though!

Can this be used without the bench? I’m in a wheelchair and it would be better for me if it could. Thanks.
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts Жыл бұрын
No, but the XTREME SE2 (nautilus.atkw.net/mgyE3Z) could potentially be used with a wheelchair. I have a video on the similar XCEED model that you can see here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZbck5WniJuLsMU I mention the XTREME SE2 for 2 reasons. (1) The XCEED has a platform that'd prevent you from backing in, the XTREME does not. (2) The SE2 has weight live on all pulleys, while the XCEED would require you do rack up one if you were to switch pulley position. A very important part of all Bowflexes is that you need to unhook all the resistance after your workout is complete (otherwise the rods wear out very quickly). I think adding or removing rods would be difficult from a wheelchair. I'm also not sure if the elastic band-like resistance would pair well with a wheelchair, it depends on the stability level you have when the wheels are locked. If I were in your shoes, look to get a cable tower + adjustable dumbbells. I haven't tested any of these below, but have read good stuff about all of them. Cable Tower (Costco Link) - www.costco.com/inspire-fitness-ftx-functional-trainer-with-bench-and-1-year-centr-app-subscription-included.product.100486673.html Same Cable Tower (Amazon Link) - amzn.to/44PHLSO Dumbbells (up to 25lbs) - amzn.to/3DqwNav Dumbbells (up to 52lbs) - amzn.to/3O9rRvS *the bowflex & amazon links are affiliate links. They don't cost you anything, but I get a small commission on them. One last thing on the cable tower. I think the steady resistance offered is important and you don't have to worry about removing the rods after completing a workout.

Can you do cable kickbacks with the 1000 or do you recommend the Blaze? I'm looking at these two mostly for leg work (leg extensions, presses, cable kick backs, etc.) It seems like the placement of the pullys on the Blaze is more suited for cable kickbacks, but the blaze is also more expensive right now. I'm a female, 135 pounds, so my resistance needs are much less than my Husbands, but he would definitely use this too. Thoughts?

I would recommend the Bowflex XCEED for y'all. I've found the XCEED to have the best options for legs since there are more pulley positions and sometimes can limit your options. I don't have a review video for the XCEED just yet, but I have a bunch of follow-along routines for it. I think this first one would be more up your alley. In it I do cable kickbacks and other stuff for hips and glutes (I know my cable kickback form isn't great, it's still a new exercise to me). kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2Glpod9eLKcjbc kzbin.info/www/bejne/haWufmCQmsqpqdE In the second video, I do more Squats and Leg Extensions. There are no Leg Presses on this machine, but they're not great on the PR1000 or Blaze. I do have a workaround for that in this video though: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3iblGSAgLOmhNU Below is an affiliate link to the XCEED and right now it's $800. For most of the year, it's be selling at ~$680 on Amazon, so if there's not a huge rush, I'd wait for bit. Normally Bowflexes go on sale around the Black Friday/Cyber Monday. On Prime Day about a month ago it was $600. If you do buy new, please use the affiliate links here or in the description. I get a small referral fee and helps cover the cost of running the channel. Buying used is a reasonable option too. I see XTREMEs sell on Facebook Marketplace for ~$250 all the time. For the most part, they're good as new EXCEPT you might need to buy another set of Power Rods for them....and while I'm linking you to videos, here's one more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4S1ZZ-ifdmLh7c Let me know what you decide! If you're holding off for a sale, sub to the channel and I'll post links to any good sales as they come up.

@@jake2287 I have a revolution, but haven't gotten to work out on it much (only so many hours in the day, etc). I plan to do some videos for it next year. It does provide very good resistance--much more like a traditional cable machine in that the weight is constant for the entire rep. (power rods increase in resistance the further you bend) The machine itself is huge though! Heavy too! Very high quality, just bulky and lots of attachments. That's part of the reason I haven't gotten to use it much. I currently own 4 Bowflexes (PR1000, Blaze, XCEED, and revo) and have half of a two-car garage for it all and that's my "studio" for recording too. Anyways, the Revo has a great Leg Press! Possibly the best of any Home Gym that I know of. I can't say I've tested anything else in the $1K+ price bracket though, but I research a lot of other machines. If you do buy the Revo new, please reach out first. Those are expensive machines and referrals on those score me a real nice commission and don't cost you a penny.

@@jake2287 it depends. The Revo is probably best, but expensive. The XCEED is best for people with experience in the gym as it's like a cable tower with a bench stapled into it. Good value too. The PR1000 is best for people getting into resistance training and it can double as a row machine (I have another video on that). Lowest price. The Blaze is an expanded PR1000 that can do extra stuff. Personally, if I had to choose machine for just me to work out on, it'd be the XCEED. Here's a link to a video using the Yoga Ball: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaGvo6Zjntxjh5Y If you do buy and this info has been helpful to you, please consider using the links in the description.

What home gym equipment can I get that can help me lose belly fat and give a good workout?
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
You can't really target where you lose body fat--you just lose body fat. For example, crunches won't cause you to lose weight in your mid-section. My recommendation for calorie burning would be a spin bike. I have a Bowflex C6 bike, but as I was looking, I found Amazon has an insane deal on a C7 (the upgraded version). Only $350 for a $1100 bike: amzn.to/3nRbQh9 *I am an amazon affiliate and make commissions on referrals, but I have one of these bikes and love it! It also comes with a 1 yr JRNY app membership. That's a hell of a deal right now!

@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
@@dominicjosephofoluwa5894 the bike I linked you to is what I use for cardio. That and jogging. I highly recommend it, especially at that price. For strength training, I like the PR1000 a lot, but it depends on your situation. If you're more of an experienced lifter, I'd look at the XCEED. What's objectively the best, I can't answer that. I haven't tested every product. But I do recommend these and think they are a good value.

Misleading? Give me a break. It was $500 when I recorded the video and float between $600-$680 on amazon. They were even $480 at one point this year. What's misleading is Amazon telling you that they are marked down from $800. They've never sold them for $800.

Well I understand that and actually if you go to Amazon it’s marked down to 600 instead of 800 just look it up. No reason to get bent over the comment. Honestly I really like the video i actually saved it for later once I get mine on because of the work outs you did will help me learn to use it.

Can u do legs on this machine?
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can, but it's not great. (1) The leg press is a joke, until you add more resistance. Refer to this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIenaKCCgdN7fLM after adding more resistance, it's serviceable. (2) Squats aren't good on this machine, better on the Blaze and best on the XCEED/XTREME (3) Leg curls aren't great on this machine, but work well on the Blaze. Personally, I like the XCEED and XTREME a lot for Legs. I did a review on that machine here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZbck5WniJuLsMU and I talk about Leg work on it at 8:52 in that review. If you do buy new, please use the links and let me know if you have any other questions.

What would you say it’s equivalent to in free weight dumbbell press? What about bench press? At least 135? I want something for when I can’t make it to the gym and just trying to figure out if it’s even enough weight to be effective. I don’t have enough room for the blaze unfortunately.
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
In the video I said it's around a 135lbs equivalent, but mine is starting to feel more like 120lb. Possible that my rods have worn down a bit since recording. I have been finding a few ways to upgrade resistance though. I haven't shared though because I'm still testing things and want to get a bunch of workouts in before recommending. The more I test, the more I feel there are ways to upgrade the resistance. Shoot me an email at Bowflexworkouts@gmail.com if you want more details there. I hope to have some videos out on this topic in about 3 months. I know that's a ways out, but I want to be absolutely sure before I recommend anyone buy anything....and everything I'm testing makes think the PR1000 is a very good buy.

@@inconvenientfacts8896 Definitely! The stock resistance is more than adequate for biceps/triceps. It's sufficient for most back exercises too. Chest & legs are really the only muscle groups where I'd like the resistance to be disappointing. For chest, I've found that incorporating a yoga ball helps with that. If heading up towards $1000 what other home gyms would be more worth the money then bow flex?
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
That's about where my knowledge runs out and maybe the Bowflex is still the best option for some people... it's just the value proposition of the PR1000 isn't as good with the Blaze. For those that like free weights though, I would recommend getting those with a nice bench and cage instead. For those that want a pulley based machine, I've always liked the looks of the Nordictrack Fusion CST, but I've never used it myself. Wish I could be more helpful than that!

Can you address the rod warranty
@BowflexWorkouts
@BowflexWorkouts 2 жыл бұрын
The rod warranty covers broken rods, but not worn down rods. Failing to remove them from tension after a workout will wear them down quickly. The warranty does not cover worn rods. I assume the warranty is not transferrable and I have not heard of anyone having rods replaced through it. Replacement rods can be purchased here: amzn.to/3stjuBr (disclosure: this is a referral link that I may make commissions on) Replacements are a bit expensive, but if they restore your whole experience, it'll be worth it. I also have a video about upgrading resistance that you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2mWkn6Id76fmqc It's currently unlisted because I had a elastic band break on me after about 10 workouts and so I'm troubleshooting that. I think they were damaged during an extended row machine workout, but until over got it figured out, the video is unlisted.
