Should I Buy the Z Fold 6 or the Pixel Fold 2?

I'd really love to try the next Pixel Fold, but Google just has terrible deals. I priced a Z Fold 5 and a Pixel Fold 1 at 512GB. I can buy a Z Fold 5 straight up right now today without a trade-in for CHEAPER than I can buy a Pixel Fold WITH a Z Fold 4 as a trade-in! That's unacceptable for Google. Considering, stats on paper, the Z Fold is a much "better" device. At least on paper. I currently own a Z Fold 5, so I was just running through the exercise to see what they were offering. But I was, and still am, very disappointed in Google promotions and offers.

I tell you, since one UI 6.1 on my fold 4, I can tell the dictation for texting and whatever with the mic has gotten sooooooo much better and more accurate.😊

I'm come 2 ur channel 2 make a decision what 2 upgrade from my galaxy fold 2... I don't care about the price... But my preference is about durability and user experience... So far I'm very happy with the GF2 and I've been using it for almost 4 yrs now... The only thing I hate about this phone is the outside screen... I never use it besides making phone calls... Which is such a waste... Because the screen is too small... I hope U can help me 2 take the decision in the future, because every phone I'm buying, I will use it for at least 3/4 yrs... Great topic! This is a tough one because of the fact we're expecting a redesign of both phones. I would say to wait if you can, until both are released and see which one is the most compelling update amongst the two. I am kind of in the same boat here myself. Samsung's folding phones come out sooner than Google's so we'll have to see what changes they make. The Z-Fold 5 was a good upgrade over the 4, however, Samsung really needs to step up on the 6. If they do not, then I would say get the Pixel Fold 2.

I'm daylie driving the fold 4 since it came out and it's the best phone experience I ever had. For me it's the pen that makes the difference. I'm using the pen pro for my job as a teacher. And there're so many benefits. I can't imagine sacrificing the pen for better cameras or something else that the pixel fold 2 offers. The last replacement Pixel Fold i received works better than all the others i have had. This is the first time everything on the device works consistently. For this reason, i will not install anymore Beta versions, because they cause more problems than they solve, plus Google will not honor your warranty if your device has software or performance issues, because the betas have bugs that could cause your device to malfunction. I actually had an agent refuse to replace my device because i was on the beta program.

Since I am still paying on my original pixel fold, I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to invest in the pixel fold 2. If the rumors about the form factor are true, then I am going to have a real problem with the fact that the front screen may be slimmer and taller. I'm not getting the z fold 6. As long as they are going to keep that same form factor then it's a hard pass for me. I have the OnePlus open and that's as slim as I want my front screen to get.

@shanecraig Such a tough question. So I have went through all the main ones through trades. Samsung, pixel, oneplus folds. Here is my opinion. Pixel was ok but who knows if they fixed the issues. I loved oneplus for the form factor and that's it. Both samsung and Pixel were better. The reason I will not be doing a one plus anytime in the near future is they have hardly any trade value(100 dollars on Samsung and 0 on google), which I did not know. My overall pick is the Samsung. The form is not the best of all three phones, but it runs the best and it is the best phone if you want to upgrade more often. It just holds it value much much better.

It’s a tough choice for someone who runs a tech channel, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either choicem I do feel though that there are more Z Fold users than Pixel Fold users (just my opinion, can totally be wrong here). Since you skipped the Z Fold 5 and the Z Fold 6 does seem to be bringing some noticeable improvements, maybe that’s the one to go with. Personally for me, I would love to see more Pixel Fold content and I will personally be purchasing that device instead of the Z Fold.

Been rocking the ZF4 since launch and will def upgrade to the ZF 6. The phone has held up very well, so I think a 2yr cycle for foldables is good enough for me. I paid 900 with a trade in and the Cost of use per day for thé past 2yrs will be 1.23 in August.

I'm leaving only towards the fold2. I'm pretty much finished with samsung devices. The final factor, for me, would be any new on the speculated Apple folding Device. I love the concept of folding Device. I hate the concept of Android. If Google produced a pixel ecosystem that becomes reliable...I would relish that idea. I'm so happy to jump ship from Samsung to the OnePlus open. Samsung is complacent. I get not upgrading every year. But samsung is wild sticking to the same phone almost for 3+ years. Unacceptable. Im glad oneplus didn't release again if they weren't going to bring a worthwhile upgrade. I actually use the air gestures when doing dishes or cutting my hair. I constantly use tent mode. I also appreciate how great the battery life is. My z fold 5 would be dead around noon from playing Spotify at work. If i charge my OnePlus over night , its probably at like 60% when i make it to bed at night. The charging speed is insane also. Where Samsung excels in good lock, the oneplus excels at being a reliable daily driver phone and a foldable.

I have had ever Z fold from 1 to 5, but not the 4 because of terrible support. (faulty out of box). The pixel fold is not generally available in Australia but got a refurbished one on ebay. Its fantastic, was surprised. Will not probably get a new Samsung fold as not enough change (improvement), Whereas there is heaps google can go with the pixel fold, particularly in the software area.

I have a z fold 4 and the 5 did not appeal at all, maybe the 6 will this year but I have been happy with my device for a longer period of time compared to any other traditional smart phone before. The pixel with the camera quality and image processing is always a huge draw to me, but samsungs deals on their app for trade in keep me coming back. You've got a difficult choice for sure, but I'm sure the content will be entertaining either way you go.

My problem is my service provider (Google Fi) states on its compatibility page that "This phone does not support network‑switching technology, but you'll still get great coverage." I have the Samsung fold 4, and I love most of it. The front screen is almost unusable, but it makes up for it by the inner screen, which I use 99% of the time anyway. Also, I have my fold 4 turned horizontal/landscape most of the time so in that way it's a much bigger screen than Pixel fold. It's also way way better at multitasking than pixel fold and comes with more options for personalizing, thanks to good luck and other options. But, Pixel fold doesn't need to be turned on it's side and has the great front screen and is stock android with all the feature drops (most of which I can replicate on my Samsung anyway...like Now Playing or others). So, I guess it comes down to the changes to fold 6, if the screen in front is still too narrow, I will be trying the pixel fold 2 or whatever it gets called. After all, I still have my fold 4, like new, with one ui 6.1 and most of the AI features I could still use.

Perhaps youl read this: Would you advice skipping al the hype for upcoming new SOC nodes? Snapdragon 8 gen 4, tensor G5 with TSMC etc. 8g4 would be generational leap of 40% faster single core for example. I am waiting for the first foldable if it can compete with current S24U in hardware, fronfacing screen camera's etc. Screen real estate is not worth it if its cropped for viewing content i think, saw S24U and fold 5 watching a trailer and the black bars were so big :(

Unless Google decide to make the Pixel fold 2 available in Australia then the Z fold 6 is the only option for me of the 2 devices - that said I am keeping an eye on the Vivo X Fold 3 which has some great specs and from what I can tell is shortly to come to Australia: Inner: Foldable 8.03-inch Samsung E7 AMOLED screen. Outer: a 6.53-inch Samsung E7 AMOLED screen. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. 64MP+50MP+50MP triple rear cameras, a 32MP front camera. These are the Chinese version specs but presumably they will be likely be the same when it lands down here. Price might end up noticeably cheaper then the Z Fold 6 also.

I'm going to wait to see what the z fold 6 looks like and with the fold two looks like before I make my decision. But realistically if the outer screen on the z fold 6 is small then it will probably be the pixel too. I would love to try the OnePlus open but I don't like their policy of having to send the phone back since it's my daily driver I can't afford to send it back and not have a phone.

Man, Samsung's really fighting making the fold materially wider. I've been a Samsung fold fan (had every .model since the start)... but really want a wider version more like the One+Open / Pixel fold. This will likely be the year I move away from Samsung fold towards One+ or Gfold. It was a good run though.

What's the issue with using Oneplus Open's form factor? It's much better than Galaxy's narrow one, and for some it's apparently better than Pixel Fold's factor which is a bit too wide.

To be clear, the Open is 6mm narrower than the Pixel Fold. It's a very small difference. It is a lot taller though. For most people, that form factor is probably the best. I just prefer the shorter, easier to reach screen on the Pixel Fold.

Google should really send you Fold 2 considering you probably made more ppl to buy it after all your videos and it's still your favourite folding phone, despite the problems you had. But if they don't, I think you should get Pixel Fold 2 so you can compare what has gotten better and what's worse on the new gen, plus the one you don't use as main phone you can get the beta android on it, so you have a direct comparison between the two Pixel Folds.

You can buy a cheap cover for the Pixel Fold 2 already, to verify the dimensions. Doesn't matter anyways, as this year will be a bad year for sales. Economic decline in many countries which makes Oneplus Open decision to skip a year, as a smart move. Original Pixel Fold has perfect form factor so no need at all to upgrade, especially since next version will be a cookie cutter design size of the narrow/tall OnePlus Open. No thanks this year is looking to be a skip year. Even Samsung has not bothered to do anything new except push their rumor mill on hyperdrive with empty promises.

Also, something to take into consideration is trade in value. Samsung devices hold their value much better and for much longer than Pixel devices. I would think this would be very important and add value to reviewers that are still expanding and building their channels and who may not be receiving manufacturer provided devices like some other huge channels.

i've watched a lot of Pixel Fold content, including a ton of yours. I cannot believe that between the crap software, the random cracking and fighting with Google for a month, you would even consider the Pixel Fold 2. UGreen hosed me on a 65w charger and I havent done business with them since.

So, there's a lot here to dig into. Firstly, it's hard for me to wrap my head around the "crap software" thing. Pixels easily have my favorite software of any phone. That plays a huge role into my interest in a Fold 2. Despite it abandoning the aspect ratio I want, it'll still be a foldable with Pixel software and that immediately makes it interesting to me. If I'm choosing between three phones that are all portrait screens, the one with the software I prefer makes sense. You also have to factor in that my coverage of Pixels has drawn an audience of Pixel users, so it likely makes more financial sense as well. For the cracking screen, here's how I see it. What happened with my phone sucked and it's likely that without me doing what I do, I'd have been out a good deal of money. Again, this sucks. The thing is, I've talked to enough people and read enough posts and done enough polls to know that this is not a Google thing. Samsung and OnePlus will screw you in the exact same ways. What I learned from this was not "don't buy a Pixel," it was don't use a foldable without insurance. I can't/won't take my sample size of one breakage and extrapolate that into ruling out the entire brand when I know what the broader data is. It happened to be my turn and it happened to be a Pixel. @@scaryifliteral I was comparing poor customer service experiences with my UGreen story. In regard to the software, like I said, I watched a lot of content on this device and a lot of the reviews lampooned the software experience. But I never used one myself. Don't get me wrong, I do like Pixel software. I was rocking a Pixel 8 Pro for a bit when I was trying to be a 2 phone guy.

I think I watched a few reviews when it first came out and I've honestly not watched much since then. I talk about this stuff so much it's hard for me to turn around and listen to other people talk about it lol. All I know is it's a Pixel and it's exactly like every other Pixel on the market, save for a few Pixel 8 features. The software and form factor are what make the device for most people I've talked to.

Is it true that the Pixel fold does not support much of the new AI and does anyone know if the Pixel 2 will? I have most phones including but not limited to multiple Z Folds up the 4 didnt see any reason to get the 5, Surface Duo 1 and 2, iphone 13 pro max and 15 pro max, Galaxy S24 Ultra etc but I have never owned a Pixel, I was going to get the Pixel Fold recently to add to the collection but was hearing it doesn't support AI, is that true and if the Pixel Fold 2 does support full AI then I will definitely purchase it. Any info you guys have is appreciated, thank you.

This is sort of hard to answer. The first issue is what is "AI" and what isn't. I'm going to paint with some broad strokes here to be overly detailed. While the Pixel Fold has a ton of "AI" features, there are still some that are exclusive to the Pixel 8. Audio Magic Eraser, Best Take, Recorder summaries, Magic Compose are all exclusive. It *does* have things like Gemini, Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, Circle to Search, Call Screening, Photo Unblur, Clear Calling. Pixel Fold 2 will pick up all the Pixel 8 features and add more. It's also possible that some of the Pixel 8 features will make their way down like Magic Editor just did.

The Pixel Fold should have every feature of the Pixel 7 while the Pixel Fold 2 (AKA: Pixel 9 Pro Fold) should have every feature from the Pixel 8 + the new ones.
