There are SO MANY times in Seinfeld where George does something crazy, and you think "no real peeson would actually do that", only to find out later that Larry David did, in fact, actually do it.

The reason the dialogue seems more natural is that it’s not scripted like traditional shows. The “script” gives the actors general instructions about what their character does or how their character feels about a situation, and gives them leeway to improv 90% of the dialogue based on that.

The show is ALL improv. There an outline and what each scene is but the actors improv the convos in the scenes. Also LD is probability a huge inspiration for the Sunny Gang😅

Without question. Sunny is very much the successor to Seinfeld. In the early seasons especially, the fingerprints are there in almost every scene.

Glad you’re doing CYE. I’m a Brit and I’m not really ‘into’ American humour except for a few (much older) outstanding sitcoms etc. However, a few years ago when I accidentally watched a scene or two of CYE, I was hooked. I went out and bought the box set of DVDs and - in many, many episodes - almost died laughing. To let you know… it gets even better as the episodes and seasons go on. Larry is the perennial victim of circumstances. The show is hilarious! Just one point… you mentioned that it’s “so well written”. In actual fact, much of it (I’m led to believe) is ad-libbed and spontaneous, just working around a basic structure of a 'script'. This is what makes it so real and down to Earth. Another point… Richard’s new girlfriend (played by Sofia Milos) is in the episode of “The Sopranos” in which Tony goes to Italy. She’s the daughter of the mafia boss. Can’t you do the complete episodes rather than shortened versions?

I'll be here for all of your Curb reactions. You don't need to watch Seinfeld, lots of people I know who love Curb aren't interested in Seinfeld. The comedy is different as well. The only way it matters is when it comes to "what does Larry do for a living?" moments. Basically the Larry you are seeing right now is flush and barely interested in "doing" anything again. Lol, you'll see as it goes on when Larry does actually "do" something, there is usually some bigger ulterior motive lol. Great show, the best support character doesn't even appear until season 6, luckily for you the regular support characters are all solid and when the new one I inferred comes in it will just be an extra dose of greatness on top.

I think everybody should watch Seinfeld. The first season isn't great, but there are so many amazing episodes. You'd also appreciate the Seinfeld gag they did in the clip show episode of IASIP a lot more if you saw the original episode they parodied.

Not necessary to see Seinfeld beforehand. I grew up watching Seinfeld and it’s still my favorite show of all time. I saw this show randomly on HBO in December 2002 and I liked it. The cringe goes to eleven every episode. The main guy is Larry David, co-creator of Seinfeld with Jerry Seinfeld, and the inspiration for the George Constanza character on that show. He plays a fictional version of himself. Also, the dialogue on this show is improvised. Larry will give a premise for the actors to do and then they improv the dialogue. Richard Lewis and Larry are friends in real life too.

Maybe you know this already, but this show has very minimal writing. They have basic outlines for the plot and most of the dialogue is improvised, which is probably a big reason everything feels natural.

Love Curb but u have to watch the HBO special that served as the pilot for Curb. Same actors and characters and a plotline in season 2 directly talks about the events in the HBO special.

Curb is my favorite comedy show besides sunny. I could never get into Seinfeld but Curb is amazing. There is no one better at gut wrenching cringe comedy than larry david. This show has made me so uncomfortable so many times I love it. Also 99% of the show is improv which is crazy.

Hard disagree. Curb is great, but Seinfeld is maybe the greatest comedy ever made. Almost every comedy made today (including Curb) is swimming in Seinfeld's wake. If it doesn't still seem amazing, it's only because it set a standard that everyone else has been trying to copy ever since.

recently finished this show, in like under a month, it's really good but i watched it backwards (started on the last season) which i think was a better experience bc it gets funnier. if you watch through S1 n S2 and find it slow def consider newer seasons. Lowkey Larry is a Karen but it's pretty funny

Not really. The only thing about Seinfeld that matters in this is Larry will be known by people he interacts with from Seinfeld or sometimes bring it up himself, casually or in pitch type meetings. It's not really important, but would make S7 a little more fun personally

I like Curb, but prefer Seinfeld personally. It's more engaging. But a word of advice if you do watch it; start with season 4. The first 3 seasons are mediocre as hell and you'll find yourself bored for the most part. And as there isn't a real plot, you're not at risk of missing anything important.

Seinfeld is the one of the most creative, influential, and brilliant shows ever made. It holds up extraordinarily well. To the extent one might think it doesn't, it's overwhelmingly because basically every comedy made since the 90s has tried to copy parts of the Seinfeld formula, so it isn't as fresh to someone who didn't see it in real time.
