I just found your channel and I am now in France grocery shopping at the famous chez le clerc and I'm very much enjoying your videos and then laughing while I'm shopping. I'm seeing so many traditional French people and nearly stereotypes surrounding me as I shop.

I'm really enjoying these videos. Actually a lot has changed in terms of learning French. Particularly since Covid there are several online language schools which have entirely modernised their approach. Francais Authentique par exemple, Parler comme une Francaise, Francais avec Pierre to name a few, who have built communities and all of which do pretty much everything online . There are also people like the lovely Alex who is English and operates French in Plain Sight. He has spent a long time learning French as an English person and is an excellent coach in that he understands difficulties that some native English people may have when learning. My own point of view about learning French is that I do think it's necessary to get a base and an English person who is a good teacher is totally adequate. Beyond a certain level I just think it is nice to communicate with natifs / natives as well. Obviously just because one speaks a language one cannot necessarily teach it and vice versa.

Thanks for watching! In any market, it's good to have a choice because there are different channels for different people. It's like accommodation and cars. Some people feel better in a wooden shack and others prefer a hotel with 24/7 catering. Some like rusty rollerskates and others want a Bentley with a chauffeur and a personal relationship with the manager. As far as language learning goes, perhaps a slice of these professionals' target market have a lot of disposable time and can afford to use courses that - shall we say - are designed to last. Others (at random highly effective people) have more limited time, which is something they value even above money. An hour means something much higher than $$$ in their life. Perhaps they will rather look for a premium service and guaranteed results because they might not be able to embark on any half-baked plan. I'm not implying anything about anyone, but it has been known to be a fact. So despite appearances, all teachers are not all in the same market. To fully address the service of these professionals , I would have to see their pupils speak French to have a better idea of their method. Funny tough that for professionals who step away from tradition, they do all refer in their names alone to a certain franco-French tradition: Francais authentique... an idea or "authenticity".. as if a non-authentic French existed. Pierre, which is perhaps his real name but is quite the most French name ever along with Jacques perhaps. And "comme une Francaise" says it all. I heard the Plain Sight fella speak French for a minute and as far as my trained ear tells me he hasn't conquered basic French phonemes, which as I said in another video is my icebreaker because it's so easy. Indeed, anyone can set up shop as a teacher and why not. Again, different teachers for different learners. Different markets, different standards for different customers. All depends on the disposable time people have. Not the money, the time. Please do answer, I'm by no means trying to shut topic off.

The ordonnance of VC only introduced obligations related to official written acts, which were supposed to be written in (langue d'oil) French. Ordinary people kept speaking occitan, breton, flemish...The eradication of local languages only dates back to the obligatory primary education of the Third republic (1880's), when supposedly, pupils were forbidden to 'spit and speak breton' in primary schools! My own grandmother, who was born in 1908 in the Limousin, in the langue d'oc area, learned French at school at the age of four...

Thanks ! I didn't know that much. I knew that France forced standard French on its citizens of course. I had already seen the signs that went up in some schools "interdit de cracher, parler Breton etc" - as late as the 20th century. For some reason, they're now trying to revive Occitan in schools, a dead language which was not entirely designed to describe many of the realities of today. We'll see how that goes! Quand la politique se mele de choses qu'elle ne comprend pas....mais bon, il fallait "creer le citoyen" et par la passait une langue uniforme pour la cohesion sociale! Thanks again for your interesting comment.
