I've got a 40 gallon black tank, after every dump I put about 10 gallons of water back into the tank and always use plenty of water when going #2. Since I started doing it this way I've not had any problems getting the tank clean. PS I live full time.

I've been using calgon and Pinesol for years. Not one issue and sensors have always worked. Be sure and use plenty of water when flushing!!

The Calgon creates a slippery action to help eliminate the waste better and the Pinesol creates a more pleasant smell.

Yes, I have done both and also had our tanks professionally cleaned after. Our tanks were much easier and came clean more quickly using the pinesol/calgon method and had less smell than when using a digestive product. We also purchased an RV in the past with a “pyramid”. The only way we finally got it and the sensors clean was with the “Geo Method” We have been RVing since the 80’s, we have tried it all. But as I always say, you do you.

I use the Pinesol and Calgon method with no problems. I haven't had any problem with my sensors yet. I always start my camping with 5 gallons of water in the black tank with 8oz of the Kleen tank mix.

Fill your black tank as full as you can before flushing. The bigger the “whoosh“, the better.

I never do that and have never had any problems. I make sure that I put a few gallons of water in our tank and unique down our toilet. As we flush we make sure we use plenty of water to flush. Then when it comes time to empty the gray tank (with plenty of water in it) I pull the lever and then immediately turn on my flush hose. Then I set a time for 10 minutes and at the end of that ten minutes I have clear water with nothing coming out. Meanwhile I now have my fresh water stuff all put away.

I'm new to RV and find this whole subject rather amusing. Because as a kid we would go every weekend in the camper, pooping and peeing and never a care. When the tank got full dad would dump it. Watched him do it many times, did it myself too when I was bigger. Of course then this was all boondocking. Never once hooked up in a RV park. If even there was such a thing back then! So the tank just eventually filled up, and got emptied. I think that's the nub of it. People today mostly RV park, where they hook up and so then instead of the tank filling up, being diluted with sink water, sloshing around as you drive, for days and days AND THEN being dumped, instead the RV sits stationary and hooked up to the park the liquid drains away without ever giving the solids time to slosh around into a slurry. Or they go on one short trip, it'll be weeks or months until the next one, so wind up trying to empty a tank only 10% full of mostly solids that had insufficient time to slosh around. No wonder some of the bigger chunks get left behind. And so now having spent all this time watching this video and writing this comment the conclusion is: don't over think it!

I've been using Unique Digest-It since I purchased my 5th wheel and after year two the sensor on the black tank always reads "full." Nothing I've tried rectifies that. It's been suggested that Unique and Liquified create a sludge that coats the sensors then dries on them. Thoughts?

Great description of a solid tank and the proper way to help it. I have been a camper since 1970 and when we depart an area we will put in ice cubes to scrape the tank bottom and sides to clean and allow the sensors to work properly while driving.

I think this is more mechanical than chemical, or biological for that matter. I think the solids are softened at best before they are removed.

I have been using the 'tank kleener' formula for over 18 months and couldn't be happier. No pyramids or clogs and 'things' exit quite effectively. I dump as needed and flush the black tank every other dump and have no problems. I have used the enzyme treatment in the past and find it no significant difference other than the price. And as for the statement that the cleaners have a vested interest in cleaning tanks, so does Matt's Rv Reviews, Unique, etc. have interest in using enzymes. Use what works for your system.

My thought question is. The black tank wand sprayer cleaner. Is there an adapter to attach it to the shower hose or something besides 100ft garden hose and finder the water source. Just thought there’s gotta be away to connect this thing to the shower or sink somehow.
