Vintage logs have already done their shrinking and twisting, as well. At one point I owned a home with a whole floor paneled with salvaged and resawn chestnut from a local barn. The interior wall on your example would be fantastic for paneling another room in a new structure.

I wish I could have seen more examples like this video before I started. I currently am working on a pre civil cabin and homestead actually. Over 8 structures plus a huge barn. I definitely need advice from time to time and have found a few things on this channel to help already.

Great Video! Sure liked that Chimney!!! Salvaged ~25 RR Ties; fence posts last yr (Date nails were 1912-1933). End grain weathering was amazing ; ~1" deep. Built 4 corner "H" Braces on same property. Posts used were solid! Very pleasing! (I would say 25/ out of ~ 50 were useable in whole or part, (8-4ft) .

So cool! I would've worried these were too weathered to save. Shows you what I know! Not much. 🤣 Always learn from you Noah. Thanks again.

That is very interesting about the vintage logs. Looking at it I would have said no way, but you have an experienced eye Noah and have salvaged before so thanks for the video and great lesson. Love log cabins. I am in Australia and the timber we have is a lot different than in North America or Europe. The builders of log cabins here in Australia typically import the logs.

You may have addressed my question in a previous video....Would you consider building a 2'-3' stone wall as a foundation/base/knee wall to place the vintage log home? This could even be an ICF wall with real stone veneer. I like the idea of these logs being that much further off the ground....and I get to make up the wall height to replace deteriorated logs. Thank you for your content....I've subscribed.

Sir I see videos all the time of people staining their logs before building the house or chinking. Do you need to do this?
@HandmadeHouseswithNoahBradley Жыл бұрын
Stain is not necessary for the logs, but if it is something you ever do, I can see that as being a beneficial way to do it so it doesn't drip on the chinking
