You can still try, right? Who knows you could get a 1300 and then you're good. If you don't get a very good score you don't have to submit the results. You have a lot to gain and nothing to lose from my perspective.

@@WizaGaming Applying for ED means that you HAVE to go to that college once you are accepted, so you only put down one college for that. I don’t recommend doing that. Applying for EA is non-binding, so you don’t have to go to that college(s) once accepted. Also, most colleges have a EA deadline on November 1st, and test scores need to be sent before the EA deadline.

Depending on what school you’re applying to, I would say that maybe you should. If a school that you want to go to requires the SAT/ACT then I think you will have to take it but if a school you want to go to doesn’t require it just submit the SAT subject tests if you want

Hello to anyone reading this. Just a random question. Is precalculus a strong enough prerequisite for AP Physics C (considering mechanics)? Should I wait till next year to concurrently take it with Calc AB/BC, or is the calculus able to be self taught if I remain self disciplined? 🙂🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hi! I'm about to take the ACT and I ran out of official practice tests and I've heard that unofficial ones are no good. I recently found a bunch of so called ACT tests and they have form numbers on them so I was wondering if that is good prep material and if these tests are official but unreleased due to the form numbers.

Some HR departments reluctant to hire from Ivy’s… With the idea of helping HS students...should we be concerned about the new changes to the SAT/ACT? What has made colleges in recent years (BEFORE 2020) say that tests don't matter; meaning they're now optional!? Supposedly, some feel Finland to be the gold standard of educational systems. They have a Finnish matriculation exam at the end of High School. Their scores become the standard for which college they attend; the UK, and most countries in the world, have standardized tests-no “option out” with any of these countries. Why would HR departments do this?

It definitely depends on the school! A general rule is, if they give credit for a 3: yes! If they don’t: nah. 4s and 5s I think should be submitted regardless, though

The way I see it, if they have 2 similar applicants and one has a strong-average sat score and the other didn't submit one. They'll more likely admit the student with the score because they have a more concreate picture of that applicant

I took a college class over the summer, and we had a guest speaker who did admissions at one of the largest public universities in the U.S. He said that he doesn’t see it being the breaking point between two applicants because of how people are unable to take the test during the pandemic.

Take a practice test. There are a ton on prep scholar. I’d say actually take 2. Sit through the entire test. If your scores are well into the 25th -75th percentile of where you’re applying and the test is accessible to you, take it. You don’t have to submit it, so it can’t hurt you .

You really should because if you do well it will be a great addition to your application. If you won’t do well, then don’t submit it. If your GPA is good, and activities are on point then you’re set. I’ll be applying without the standardized tests this year, and I’m not worried about it at all, it is a small part of college application.

2 days before the ACT, we were dealing with a family emergency where we had to fly my mother up to a different state. I was worrying about my mother and her family and the stress they were dealing with. I only got a 17 on the test 🙁. I am planning to apply for Elementary Education, where they usually require a certain score averaging at about a 24-26. One question, I come from Argentina where the schools offer 13+ classes and I have to take them all, and in my case, most of them are humanistics so I don't have a great GPA. However, my standarlized texts are really good, 800 in both the SAT subject test of Math Level 2 and physics, 1490 in the SAT, 5 in AP CS and Calculus BC and 3 in Physics Mechanics C. There is a chance that I am getting a higher opportunity to enter into a good univerisity due to the fact that they don't actually know my school?

I would assume so based off your SAT and AP test scores. However, I don't know what the average SAT score is for international students. It could also depend on the school, so maybe check the statistics for the schools you are applying to.

class off 2022 will be the most affected. 2020 through most of 2021, until Covid disappears or 70% immunity is realized, will be virtual, ECs cancelled, and just everything on their apps will be different. class of '20 just lost social things ( grad, prom), class of '21 will only lose fall semester ( and sprin '20) but will still have data to submit. Class of '22 will not have much to submit to distinguish themselves including the inability to see schools in person. It will be a total guess for them and the colleges....unless COVID mysteriously disappears soon.

I have a few questions, don't know if you'll get to them, but here we go. Our son got a 1550 on his best SAT, 770 Reading, 780 Math. The fall of his senior year the district paid for all seniors to take the exam. He didn't study for it, but had to take it, cause nothing else was happening in school that day. He got, I think a 780 Reading, but only a 740 in Math. He decided not to include that test to schools that did super scores, because he's have to submit the whole test, not just the hand picked highest scores. His math score was the worst of his 3 tests. It added that a 10 point increase in the total, want worth someone questioning his math score, especially since he was applying for STEM. I personally don't think it would have matter much either way. I think the tests get your foot in the door, and that's about it. I don't think they make it break your application. So I guess the question was, was this the correct strategy (now, he did get into his top 3 schools)? Now my daughter, a junior this year would rather not take the test at all, though I think she can score in the 12-1300 range. Does your intended major matter when submitting test scores. She is going to be going to school for art. So do schools look at art majors and care more about their portfolios than test scores? Or do they still first look to see if you clear the test hurdle before looking at anything else? For the most part she's looking at art schools, but she will be applying to a few LA Universities, not Ivies, but schools that might be in the next tier or two. But my question applies to a lot of students. If you're applying as an English Lit major, how much do they care about your math score? or an Applied Mathematics major's reading score? Every top school I've looked at has a cluster of kids with 3.8-4.0 and 1500-1600 SAT, but they always have a smattering of kids that were 3.0 and 1250. Who are those kids? Are they Art Majors with incredible portfolios? Are the Recruited Athletes where their scores were brushed aside? Were they kids with exceptional stories, or accomplishments outside of school?

If you've registered for March or amy earlier SAT that got cancelled and got a waiver, you will be refunded the waiver, the general rule of thumb is to get a recommendation letter from your school counselor for a fee waiver, Collegeboard may contact you if you are qualified bc of insurance. Hope that helps! I would really recommend that you talk to your counselor asap

I’m considering applying to the some of the ivies and my SAT score is a 1440, math and reading are both 720. Is it worth my time and effort to study more and try and take it again to bring it up or should i just go test optional? i’m really close to the 25th percentile for every ivy but i am a well rounded student (GPA, extracurriculars, sports) and i don’t know if not submitting would hurt my chances of admission.

I want to apply for a PhD, so the relevant test for me is GRE. The NYC universities don't accept these scores at all, so that's ok. The Californian universities have made them optional, including the GRE Physics test. The problem is that I really cannot take this test in the country where I'm residing right now (France). There are no centers where to take them. Because of this and some other reasons I will not take GRE Physics and I hope that won't be a huge problem. However, I will enter the GRE General, which is later in November and which I can take from home.

My SAT Score is a 1470 composite, 770 math and 700 Reading. The school I'm applying to has SAT Composite is 1450 1550 SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 710 to 770 SAT Math 730 790 I'm not sure if I should submit... I'm trying to retake it later this month but it might get canceled so

I’m just really concerns about the thought that what if the college admission guys actually look at the admissions with sat score send first and then after looking through all the sat score students send then they start looking at the people who did optional and not send but unfortunately the seats are limited and the ones that send their sat got like first pick and was chosen already and little seats remain for optional not who did not send their sat. That’s my fear.

So you’re telling me trying hard to go to a good elite high school is worse than going to a bad high school? At bad high schools you can stand out since school doesn’t prepare you for sat. Assuming your abilities and stats are all the same and the only difference is your high school then would the worse high school be better?

Generally if you go to an extremely competitive elite highschool more people will have similar stats to you meaning more competition. So yes it would be better to succeed in a bad school because you will have less competition

Typically if it's sent, it's sent. You can't really erase a score you already sent. But given all this crazy COVID rule stuff and test optional stuff-- you never know. Email the admissions office and ask.
