No. and neither vice-versa. Let each system stand and let folks enjoy working through both.

Thanks for the interesting discussion. By your definition I'm now a martial arts geek 😂. I can share my personal experience here, having finally found the right judo school to practice at. Where i am, colored belts in bjj land around yellow or orange belt level after half a year or more of judo. I think that promoting sooner than that, just based on success in randori or the various drills would water it down. Ive found that im scoring on most of the higher Kyu and some of the shodans who show up to regular practice, but randori night is different, those guys have a lot more experience. I have a brown belt in BJJ and some basic wrestling and MMA experience, so i find that I'm using attributes that ive developed and general grappling knowledge more than specific judo techniques, though the judo is starting to come around. Im competing in judo for the first time at the end of the month as an orange belt. I suspect ill do well given how training is going, but you never know with these things. Thanks again for the show

I think the point about the testing requirement wasn't given enough attention in your discussion. If you are able to pass the belt rank test, it shows a level of knowledge that could make you able to teach. The official black belt ranks for Judo recognized by Kodoka are given by a panel, not just your coach, so it's a somewhat more objective standard of measurement of ability.
@socialgelo77194 ай бұрын
@@resolutedreamer that's a good point. Testing requirements in BJJ are all over the place depending on the school. That would make a great topic for another podcast. Thanks for checking it out.

@@socialgelo7719 If you're interested, I can send you an email with the belt rank test paperwork that my Judo dojo has so you can look at it. I think it's based on the US Judo Federation requirements

Sane origin but different focus - different now. Tanksudo is recognized by TWD but they are not so different as judo and BJJ now.

Time in grade is just gate keeping Judo has always has the option to batsugun, if you go in and throw every black belt in the room you're a black belts end of conversation

I'll say the organization, the usja. No Give them a yellow belt and move on. I dont believe that most would be able to get the Judo foot work down without the years of experience.

Maybe? If it is a "freestyle" Judo school and not Olympic Judo. Maybe give a BJJ Black Belt his green or Blue if they train Gi.

@@acd-combatives that's an interesting take. So for you it would come down to the type of Judo. Makes me want to do another podcast on the different types of Judo. Thanks for sharing that here 🤙

@@socialgelo7719 Hi, I think it would need to be done on a case-by-case basis. BJJ to Judo / Judo to BJJ. Some practitioners/schools, like Free Style Judo or Sambo schools, cross-train extensively. But in general, Most BJJ schools don't do enough Naga-Waze, and most Judo schools don't do enough Ne-Waze. I do think a blue belt is fair and a good idea. Also, I like the channel. I have a Kajukenbo background (back in the day 🙂). Mostly BJJ and Taiho Jutsu now.

🌟Brazilian jiu-jitsu is literally one half of Judo and these two styles are identical if trained as a martial art... Judo is the complete mother style and Brazilian jiu-jitsu focuses on the groundwork aspect of Judo making it not figuratively but literally 1/2 of Judo💥 1985 Community Center Judo was exactly the same as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1995... the two styles only diverge as a sport and although people focus on the more glorified aspect its definitely not the same as the martial art🔥 🌟 this fact is often realized in that a judo practitioner does quite well in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition whereas a Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor cannot scratch the surface of judo because they're literally missing 1/2 the game🔥
