The MITB gimmick works very well with LA Knight’s character. The fact that he didn’t win it tells me that he’s never going to be a world champion in WWE. Which is fine, but it does make it pretty clear where they see him

They have two titles on relatively long reigning champions and a lot of plan b's, c's, and d's on deck to take that top spot ahead of Knight that they've been building toward. Knight's rise was lightning in a bottle by comparison, and they probably want to test it's staying power before he even makes it to the queue of would-be contenders. He could end up being an endearing high profile midcard champion, or he could eventually get there, but the fact that his name is no longer Max Dupree shows that they at least know what they have on their hands.

The slim jim sponsorship and Knight being the face of the company of news events are a sign that they are confident in him being the face of the company. Damien Priest always seemed like world champion material to me. It's just the more recent role as a more cowardly heel didn't suit him or do that image favors. They have been pivoting him since R-Truth being kicked out, he's gaining that edge back.

Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn aren't on TV enough to explore their witchcraft gimmick, Joe Gacy no longer has his cult, and I wouldn't even say Karrion Kross is dark because all he really does is spooky backstage biblical promos.

Looking back over the past year: Damien Priest was the right choice for MitB. Without The Judgement Day he would have looked like a total loser not having cashed in yet... but with The Judgement Day he looks a little hapless and maybe kind of stupid, but its not a total character failure. If LA Knight won MitB he probably would have cashed in long ago, but the way WWE was going over the past 8 months it is very unlikely he would have had a successful cash in - so its been 8-9 months now for Damien Priest but he at least has the case still and could still go on to cash it in and win before the next MitB. I just hope with the next men's MitB they don't basically repeat the same Austin Theory/Damien Priest trouble cashing in story and we get a short run of somebody winning the case before cashing it in and no failed attempts.

I like the idea of Cody barely beating Roman, then Priest cashes in, maybe even after a Judgement Day beat down. This accomplishes a few things: 1. Roman is finally dethroned, and can move on to feud with The Rock, who turned on him. 2. Cody maybe doesnt officially finish his "story" but it runs parallel with his dad, both having the same title taken away moments after winning it. I feel like Cody is going to be hotter chasing the title as the "underdog" of sorts anyways. Once he wins it, hes going to slowly lose some of that fan support. His story is the chase for the title. 3. Cody then can get a few more months of chasing Priest for the title, maybe at Summerslam, with a new faction protecting the title in the meantime. I feel like him finally winning it, after losing to Roman at Mania last year, the year long chase, just to win it, have it slip out of his hands moments after winning it, then chasing it down again, will make that official win a bit more special. Thoughts?

I still think Priest was the right choice. Knight winning, it wouldn't have taken him anywhere. On Raw this week, he felt like he was on the right path again. Priest to me could be a much bigger face than a heel.

Should Knight have won the briefcase? Maybe. But he doesn’t need it, he’s a star merch seller and viewers want to see him without it but, clearly even Paul doesn’t see Knight as a main event. Maybe it’s because Knight doesn’t have a sob story, wasn’t an indie darling or unintentionally buries everyone he works with in promos. I do know, Priest was the worst choice. Rhea is the star and essentially leader of Judgement Day, Finn has the indie marks support, JD is Finn jr and Dom gets all the crowd heat for supposedly a “heel” faction. Priest is the baggage that’s lucky he gets tv time, no less promo time.

Sometimes MITB just feels like a useless idea because story wise there's nothing good to do with it. And if they're gonna permanently go back to long title reigns then really the only good thing to do with MITB is to get rid of it entirely because it's a concept that only works with title reigns that last months, it might be an outdated idea for the current era.

Cody NEEDED MITB as 2023 not only was the 10 year anniversary of Cody coming runner up to Sandow plus its a chapter in Cody's story he NEEDED to finish & announce hes cashing in on Roman at Wrestlemania as it guarantees his rematch. Vince completely screwed up. You could definitely run an angle where Truth took the contract from the briefcase to keep it safe (cashes in with Miz for the tag titles) have Priest cash in, win only to find out Truth took it making it invalid and have Truth cash in after forgetting he had the contract on say Drew if he becomes champion at Wrestlemania saying that the Truth Shall Set You Free giving Truth the WWE Championship and a Wrestlemania moment.

I’ve come to learn that MITB is poorly placed on the calendar. It’s usually right before SummerSlam, and SummerSlam is usually where we see glimpses of Wrestlemania’s plans occur. With Triple H’s vision of long term booking, that means the MITB winner is decided one PLE away from the show that helps shape wrestlemania (particularly the world titles). So if a cash in doesn’t happen before SummerSlam, they’ll likely have to carry it for months unless they’re in plans for Wrestlemania. For whatever reason Wrestlemania plans need to continue onward post-mania, the MITB winner is to hold onto the contract even longer. I believe the prime spot for MITB to be in play is shortly after Wrestlemania when WWE enters its lul period before SummerSlam. Those months are perfect for shake ups and new stars, and if the MITB winner doesn’t pan out well before SummerSlam, they have all year to reroute and book a better story before Wrestlemania. After seeing Theory and Damien do absolutely nothing of meaning all year while long term stories around the bloodline and Seth’s title run occur, it’s clear that this isn’t working.

I think a dark character that has supernatural powers a la old school Undertaker might be too cartoonish for modern day wrestling. Bray Wyatt's horror theme was more psychological, not mystical. Yes we had the stuff with Alexa Bliss with her gushing black tar from her mouth but that to me was getting too silly in the storyline. Conversely an otherworldly character like Kane would make it. The Michael Myers force of nature type. A character you feel uncomfortable being next to for fear that he'll snap if you look at him funny. Theatricality is the key. Here's my hot take: Undertaker would not have survived in WWE had the character not evolve past the initial zombie gimmick.

Knight should have won. Priest is talented in ring but I just don’t buy him character wise as the top guy. He’s not even the 2nd most over guy in his faction. Rhea and Dom outshine him by a mile. Not that Dom is ever a top champ guy but at least he’s over as a heel with the crowd. Knight is even today still white hot with the crowd. People would be so hungry to see Knight cash in. The MITB ginmick needs to be retired, its over stayed its welcome and over the years very few people have acyually benefited from it in a way that its actually boosted their career long term. When the KOTR was dropped the MITB felt like a clever alternative to give 1 person a push each year into the main event. But honestly - majority of cash ins have been forgettable, runs with the briefcae have been forgettable and the superstars just go back to where they were on the card before the cash in once they lose the title (if they were successful enough to win it in the first place).
