What's the rule regarding "high foot" or "dangerous play" again? You forgot to mention that.... Law 12 says: Playing in a dangerous manner is defied as any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player himself). It is committed with an opponent nearby and prevents the opponent from playing the ball for fear of injury. A scissors or bicycle kick is permissible provided that, in the opinion of the referee, it is not dangerous to an opponent. Playing in a dangerous manner involves no physical contact between the players. If there is physical contact, the action becomes an offence punishable with a direct free kick or penalty kick. In the case of physical contact, the referee should carefully consider the high probability that misconduct has also been committed.

MacAllister clearly flinches while moving in, contact was made - Law 12 applies - Penalty. Note: There is nothing in the laws that state making contact with the ball before the player negates Law 12

If studs come in contact with your chest it’s dangerous play no matter if he touched the ball or not. You could kick a player in the head as long as your big toe scrapes the ball on the way?

Imagine if this was other way around Shay would definitely say "it's a penalty". Pundits these days can't hide away their club bias anymore and it's embarrassing watching it as viewer just say it what it truly is a clear penalty in the box no excuses.

Danny Murphy! 👍🏾 It seems VAR and that same referee, have no qualms, in seeing opposing teams players; Dangerously tackle, Liverpool players. Sheeeeesh! The last time an opposing team player, tackled and injured a Liverpool player in the penalty area (causing the Liverpool player to be on the treatment table for the remainder of that season, and missing nearly half of the beginning of the following season); The opposing player i.e. Pickford, didn’t even get a card. (And yes, it was the same referee) But no. If Ibrahima Konaté just barely leans on an opposing player whilst tackling, a referee will blow the whistle, and give Konaté a yellow card. I’m just glad 'MacAllister' didn’t get seriously injured. YNWA

In all of the analyses of this incident, the universal conclusion is that it was a foul ANYWHERE in the pitch but not, according to some, a foul in the area and thus worthy of a penalty. The most cogent reason is that no penalty was warranted at such a stage of such a game. Which is bollocks, of course. All pundits say that had VAR suggested Oliver look at the screen, he would have been duty bound to award a penalty. Richard Keys has sad legend that Oliver is arrogant and does not brook criticism; rages at anybody who has the effrontery to tell him he’s made a mistake. It’s VAR’s job to point out errors. If the referee will not accept that he’s made an error, and the people whose raison d’être is to draw attention to errors are afraid to draw the referee’s attention to an error, then both positions of referee and VAR are being allocated to the wrong sort of people. And finally, ‘such a decision at such a stage of such a game’ ignored the fact that Manchester United were allowed to take a penalty after the whistle had been blown to end a game…

This use of the word 'easier' is a bit concerning to me. 🤔 They're refereeing based on how easy or difficult it is to justify the decision? Across social media I would say I see at least 75% of ppl saying it's a pen, and that includes fans of a bunch of teams, some City fans too. I think there's a pretty high level of agreement that it's the kind of challenge normally given as a foul. It looks for all the world like it's much 'easier' to give a penalty for that, precisely because you can make a stronger case for giving it than not giving it, so how does it make any sense to not give it? VAR is not being used in a way that results in as many accurate and fair decisions as it could be.They just need to address this 'clear and obvious error' aspect. I'm a Liverpool fan so it should surprise no one that I thought it was a penalty, but I'm not really steaming about it. It happens. I'm pleased with how we played and I quite happily took the draw, all in all. I just think it's clear and obvious VAR could be more effective than it currently is, and it doesn't feel like it's that complicated a fix.

VAR determined that the ball was played in a reasonable position and was played before contact with the player. that means, VAR simply saw NOTHING wrong with this. not just "wasnt a clear and obvious error". they actually said, it was clean. thats whats so shocking imo
