So bad actually that both where replaced, substituted in that game, and not Matteo Guendouzi. In the preseason Matteo put Ramsey to shame. Xhaka puts himself to shame. I was so happy that Xhaka and Ramsey finally was substituted. They dont deserve a starting spot. One case you could make, is Elneny infront of Guendouzi. He has a point. How many goals were actually scored from playing out of the back last season?
@arrenwright56816 жыл бұрын
The reason teams play out from the back is to avoid giving up possession. Plus it draws teams on to them hopefully leaving space in behind for the fwards to move into. If done correctly it allows for a team to control the rhythm and tempo of play. A lot of these tactics are taken from basketball, field hockey and rugby.Defensively Pep uses a basketball tactic full court press, tiki taka is a field hockey tactic that holds possession of the ball in play drawing defenders on so the attckers can find dangerous position while being ignored by a mesmerized defense. The so dubbed love train England used in the World Cup at corners is reminiscent of a rugby line out. Stratergy is understanding when and where to use tactics and to adapt to the oppositions.Its not how many were scored like that its more what kind of opposition was that tactic successful against.

Get Leno in. Start Torrerira along side guendouzi. Play 4-3-1-2 against Chelsea and I don't see a reason why we can't beat them. Ozil is ineffective when played at the wings. So it's necessary to play him at CAM
@nabeelhusain60606 жыл бұрын
Kritin Pandita who’s gonna be playing in the wide areas? who’s gonna provide cover for the full backs when chelsea attack down the wing? If you send 2 of the 3 midfielders to the wings when defending, that means ozil must come back into a CM role in a 2, to compete with the midfield of jorginho and kante. Can ozil do that?
@wr94116 жыл бұрын
Nabeel Husain I know, people have no idea about formations... they just think they’re experts because of FIFA
@kritinpandita19986 жыл бұрын
Nabeel Husain while defending I think we can go to 5 at the back with guendouzi playing as a false centre back and Torrerira playing the kante role of dispersing the ball. Ozil is quite useless when it comes to defending. Ramsey has been pressing hard . So he can be the one who pressurised players like jorginho , kante kovacic. Etc. Our defense has to turn up.

Guendouzi is not good enough for Chelsea. Rather Xhaka, Ramsey or Elneny alongside Torreira. Ozil didn’t impress me either, but I guess he’s still better than Iwobi would be, so we have to go with him against Chelsea. Auba on the left would be my fav, but I don’t think that’s Emery's style of play.

@adamjohanson386 жыл бұрын
The situation reminds me of Ter Stegen, Barca signed him from Gladbach and he was just the no.2 for the first season and played in the cup competitions to get used to the club and system. Bravo was the no. 1. Stegen made a lot of mistakes at the beginning and fans as well as the media questioned his quality but look at him now, he is an absolute world class keeper, the best in the world when it comes to passing and distribution, his diagonal passes are one of a kind, not even Neuer or Ederson are as good as him with their feet. Leno is a very similar keeper and i guess that Emery wants to prepare him slowly to take over from Cech next year. Emery will play him in the cup competitions in order for him to get used to the club, team and system before he will become the no. 1 next year.
@Manny296 жыл бұрын
Adam Johanson you see that makes total sense but people would blow that out of proportion
@adamjohanson386 жыл бұрын
Well, it's Arsenal so people are automatically negative when it comes to Arsenal but that doesn't change the fact that this could very well be the case with Leno and Ter Stegen is a very good example for that. I am more worried about the private ownership of Kroenke because that could mean that the club will stagnate as a mid table club in the future as his American franchises like Los Angeles Rams of the NFL, Denver Nuggets of the NBA, Colorado Avalanche of the NHL, Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League and the newly formed Los Angeles Gladiators of the Overwatch League. All these teams are absolutly mediocre and average and never ever challenge for titles and he allready confirmed that he did not buy the Arsenal stakes to win trophies but to make money. If that's the case than relegation would be the best as it would reduce the income drastically and that could influence his decision to sell the stakes

One of many Sam’s because keepers don't make as much passes as outfield players. I'm not saying a keeper is meant to have 100% cuz long balls won't always get there but of course you'd expect the keeper to have a better % than the outfielders

The look on jens' face having to listen to merson chat absolute rubbish. English former players are some of the most football illiterate people on earth. Act like they know everything but genuinely clueless and any useful information is about 30 years out of date. Why we don't hire people who i don't know UNDERSTAND FOOTBALL to do those jobs is beyond me. These dinosaurs are stuck in the stone age and we need to stop giving them a platform to dumb down subsequent generations. The only english former footballer that speaks any sense at all is gary neville. If you ever want to know why england won't win the world cup any time soon just listen to an english "top" former player talk football, then listen to a foreign top former player. It's like night and day, one will talk tactics and technique etc. the other one will rant about how zonal marking doesn't work (despite it being proven better years ago), how teams shouldn't pass out from the back (despite ALL the top world teams doing that) because just lumping the ball about is the best way to play. Not to mention the talk about passion and running around as if it's the absolute most important thing.
@iamamazing18856 жыл бұрын
Josh S They just talk continuously about how many leaders they used to have and how teams are lacking these leaders as soon as anything goes wrong - it astonishes me that ex-players seem to have less knowledge about the way the game works now than fans who simply observe what the game is like now. You won’t win anything now if you just clear the ball away constantly and hit long balls - football has evolved beyond that
@logankeitel6 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree with you more. But why do you think this is? I reckon this is because English academies do not put emphasis on education and a cultured, learned approach to football. I've seen a lot of English players pride themselves on being bad at school. This anti-intellectual attitude then manifests itself when they have to play in high-pressure situations like the world cup and later on in places like punditry and coaching. I think it partly explains why England does not produce a good number of top quality players in positions which need critical thinking like central midfield. Most of England's great players in those positions have great athleticism (Gerrard) rather than intelligence (Xavi, Pirlo, Modric).
@tamoa56526 жыл бұрын
logankeitel i agree with you except for the fact that Gerard and Lampard were very intelligent central midfielders. Lampard in particular was very academic.

@JoshAFC6 жыл бұрын
+tamo a agreed lampard was a very smart midfielder, and there have been a number of other exceptions like scholes and carrick but have to STRONGLY disagree with the assertion gerrard was an intelligent midfielder. To me he's always been a stereotypical english midfielder where it's all about passion, working hard (not smart) and kicking the ball hard and far. I honestly think if we'd have dropped him during that golden generation for a carrick - lampard midfield we'd have been far more successful. Don't get me wrong he was a decent player but far from world class.

Chelsea spent the most in transfers for four consecutive seasons from 2003 and, funnily enough, they won the league or were runners up their next 5 seasons. In the period between 2006-07 and 2012-13, Arsenal actually made a £40m profit on transfers -- more than any other club in the league. In those same years, Man United had a net spend of £88m, Liverpool spent £124m, Chelsea splurged £233m and Man City flexed their newfound financial muscles with a net spend of £427m.

As a shotstopper he was good that game. He made 6 saves. But goalies and centre backs and almost every other position has to do more today than what they had to do back in the day. A goalkeeper is supposed to stop shots and keep clean sheets, and anything else he can do in addition to that is a bonus, and not the other way around. There are 10 players on the pitch that can play with their feet, so who would you rather have, a fantastic shot stopper who rarely can plays from the back, or would you rather have a fantastic football who can't buy a clean sheet???

Jens was very good here, Merson on the other hand.....

Weird they call this the debate but swear the people they have on never have different views so it's never a debate? 🤔

I know, right? It's more like a gentle discussion than any "debate."

agree with Paul. Cech has always been one of the best distributers in the world, since the day 1 at Chelsea that was one of the things that made him different. there is no way he is unable to do that right or good or improve. the problem is and always been at Arsenal - crap players around good players. completely crap players. the system didnt work so Cech should do what Paul said - calm everyone down and not follow coach's task because its not working. but even when system will start to work - Arsenal has crap players all around the pitch. you can distribute the ball as quick as possible from goal and defence line, but what's the point if you have a DM or LW who can not technically take the pass or give a short distributive pass himself? the ball is lost anyway, so whats the point of the system then?

1:42 for arsenal to think that they're gonna roll the ball out from the back and go through man city like it's a playstation game is beyond me- paul merson

Interested what Jens means when he says Leno needs to "take more risks" as a goalkeeper. Come out for more crosses for example? 🤔

Well, that headline had nothing to do with what was discussed

I like Jens. Wish Mersin would let him talk.

The no.1 spot is definitely up for contention and I think Emery will make them fight over it. Cech is still a quality gk but he is stressful to watch at times. LvG would say watching gives him a twitch in his ass. Bernd is the future of the club so he shouldn't be treated like a backup gk he should get a few big games and if he doesn't perform, take the sit for a few games.

It's one game and we got punished everytime we reverted to type, when we pressed high City panicked, it will take emery half a season to get rid of the wenger mentality! As for the Cech at his age you can't tell him to change his style so Leno starts next game if unai wants to play it short!

You look through champions league final no one wins any thing without a good goalie 😂😂 jens Lehman: I need a glass of water 😑😒

How Merson actually has a punditry job amazes me. The guy knows literally nothing.

What everyone forgets is Bernd Leno made a mistake in pre season that cost us a goal and the game. Imagine if Leno does another mistake. Everyone is gonna say, why are we playing Leno instead of cech

If Arsenal want to play a pressing game, then Welbeck should be a starter on the left wing. He's great at pressing and tracking back.

I think Emery was a bit silly in trying to play out the back against the best team in the country knowing full well that Arsenal couldn't do it that well.
