I used to watch that weekly championship highlights show because it was on free TV and after that first week, I spent the whole season looking out for QPR championship game streams because it was worth watching for him alone. Just looked up his stats of his career. Even in his prime he almost never scored or assisted to a goal. He scored only 15 goals in 221 games and 11 years. Only once he had more than 3 assists in one season, mostly none or one. And even his dribbles weren't that impressive statistically. On average he managed 2 per game, which wouldn't brought him into the list of the top 50 last season...

I remember him coming to Benfica, I am a FC Porto supporter. I knew of his fame from my times in England and at 26 yo I thought it was going to be its second coming, in a way Hulk did for FC Porto when he arrived from... Japan. With this talent it wouldn't be hard to achieve glory here. And fans absolutely love talented players who give it all for the club. Think Di Maria and James Rodrigues, these guys are legends in Portugal to the point Di Maria is now back at Benfica for the twilight of his career and Rodrigues didn't come because FC Porto has no cash. You said it like it can't be possible to have both. Plus he almost always does it to get to a position of advantage for him and the team. Mostly forwards or to relieve pressure. No big deal, no teammate would complain about that. They know it's important to have a player like that so they break lines and open spaces when it's hard. A good team has players with different characteristics completing each other. If you want all players to the basic, you'll always have the basic.

But big 4 teams does NOT rely on a single winger or ball player, wit another single playmaker. Remember benfica had this left footed playmaker wearing the no 7, he takes all the freekicks and penalty spot, cant remember his name but he was south american. Big clubs played with say giggs on the left and cr7 on the right, along wit Berbatov up front. Unlimited supply from scholes and fletcher, delicious supply. We are talking about a winger here that stretches teams wide and in the middle, 442 sytems or even 433. Then a winger can easily flourish and hard to be marked. Thats what i called big teams. Everyone know milan mostly consist of old players that past their prime time. Taarabt is like everyone else say in this comment section, like quaresma, wannabe arda turan and benzema, is exactly a winger, but he played before arda and benzema was still suckling breast, but in a tougher physical league, you should see the league 1 and 2 played in england. The tackles are crunchier. Taarabt has played in those conditions and still suffice. Not many has done that before things gone soft. He is pure joy to watch before the era of messi and ronaldo7. Benfica vs Vizela. He was sent off at 5 minutes for a foul after losing the ball. Benfica vs Porto. Porto scored the goal in the end of the match with a counter attack because Taarabt just stopped running instead of help defending. All of this was this season 👍. For me the most skillful players to ever kick a ball are Maradona, Romario and Ronaldinho! Reason being is I believe skill in football should be measured by a players ability to manipulate the ball. Don't get me wrong coz Taarbat is skillful but his ability relies alot on his natural athletism and mis-direction. Not the same type of ability as the players I've mentioned. Just my own opinion
