5:40 *question in title of video* Short answer yes, red card Long answer: Red card for denail of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO). In non referee terms, the attacker was going to be 1 v 1 with the goalie. For DOGSO you need to meet all criteria: 1. Distance to goal: close about 20 yards (meets criteria) 2. Number of defenders: only goalie was left (meets criteria) 3. Direction of play: straight toward goal (meets criteria) 4. Possession or possibility of possession: (this can be the most difficult to judge live) at the time of the foul the attacker is running full speed and is about 6 yards from the ball (which is rolling away slowly from the attacker). The goalie is only starting to move toward the ball and is about 15 yards away from the ball. I believe that the attacker had obvious chance to get to the ball and get a shot off. (Meets criteria) However, for this referee they may have felt the attacker wouldn't have been able to get to the ball first. (It sounds like the the video the referee says something like "it was a through ball, she didn't have possession of the ball"). However, to restate the attacker doesn't have to have possession just the high likelihood of possession. I can't be 100% sure, but I feel confident the attacker would most likely have gotten to the ball first, so red card. Finally, it is hard to judge in real time so I understand why the referee when with yellow.

This can go either way. The ref would have a very strong case to say that the attacker didn't have the likelihood to gain control of the ball; however, being that the attacker was about 7 yards away from the ball and the keeper hadn't started her run forward yet, I think the ref could justify a red for DOGSO.

Each team could be much better if they had a more athletic goalie.

I think it is about a 50/50 chance. The keeper is about 10 yards and the ball is rolling towards her. In my mind the attacker still has a fair amount of work to do as the probably meet each other at the ball, so gaining possession is doubtful.

I have the ball at the American football 15 yard line at the initial contact of the foul. The goalie is inside the American football endzone (so the goalie is about 16 yards from the ball). I still think it's close, and very difficult to judge in real time.
