I agree. If the routing is done properly, IMO like it was at OTB as well, basically never just playing straight down the golf fairways, golf courses can make great disc golf courses. And until there are more pay-to-play DG courses with facilities, this is necessary for DGPT events. Or, wait for the bikers and hikers to clear before throwing.

Maybe this is silly but I'm wondering why not take the C1 idea to a further space: golf greens don't have to be perfectly circular; instead, as we know, their designers vary the shape of the green and the texture of the surrounding surface to encourage different shots based on factors other than distance from pin. So: why not allow the course designer to designate a C1 for each hole based on the hole itself, rather than a number that feels vastly different on heavily wooded courses vs. wide open ones, to name just one of many contexts? I know this could get complicated, but I also have full faith that anyone who could design a course like the (amazing) one featured here has tackled far more-- and might even find this to be a fun concept. Apologies if I'm missing something obvious here or being dumb. Thanks for the awesome content as always!

Ticky tack technical courses like Winthrop aren't fun to watch either. Most of the boundaries are so artificial that even with a line painted on the grass, it's not easy to tell which side of the line is out of bounds -- and that's when standing right on top of it!

I'd challenge the idea that you could create a course that's fun and -3 is a great score. A little man made creativity can make it happen. I have ideas. For example, disc golf leans heavy into using trees as obstacles. What if we take a cute from ball golf in there use of bunkers and have penalty areas around greens and landing areas in par 4s.

I don't believe that the DGPT should have a separate set of rules than the PDGA. I do agree that there needs to be some rule changes to address just how freaking good the professionals are becoming. That being said, like the PGA.. amatures should be held to those same set of rules. Will scores go up? Yes. But in golf a "decent" am player shoots +10-20 over par.. it would just change... slightly... how the am's are scored. Too confusing to have two sets of rules though.
@mal2ksc2 жыл бұрын
Just change the definition of par so some of those holes are par 2, and even though that's technically a rule change, it's not like the players actually have to do anything different. They just get one less birdie on the card. They already fudge what should be Par 4 into being called Par 3 because they know someone is going to take a Simon line at it, why not extend that logic and start calling them Par 2?

If jump putting is so easy from circle 2 then why don't you do it? This is the same argument someone had with me about rollers. They said that I was cheating because I was using backhand rollers to get 450+ distance shots, and I told him that if it's so easy then he should do rollers. If you look at a list of the best circle 2 putters it's a mix of jumpers and non jumpers, so the evidence that is actually helps is slim at best.
