I think lights are in a really good spot right now. Heavies are a little too squishy due to the mesh nerfs, but that is likely because of the knee-jerk reaction to move back to charge and slam. The mesh shield is still pretty viable; you just can't juggle it like you could before, so the decision to deploy it carries much more impact than it did in prior seasons. Heavy needs more ability to do AoE damage to be more competitive imo. As for medium, I don't necessarily agree that it has an "identity crisis" so much as a requirement to make a coherent build. If you are playing support-style, you need to min/max defensive gadgets i.e. run goo grenade/glitch trap as your secondary gadgets. However, with a coordinated team, a medium with dematerializer and reshaper is a very dangerous opponent, as they can hit you from angles you'd never expect. The defensive gadgets can be deleted and replaced with the attacker's gadgets before the fight even starts, quickly reversing the momentum that the defenders have. Sorry for turning this comment into a medium-centric one.. I just disagree that defib/heals are a 'must-have' for anybody who plays the class; I get the value of the gadget/spec combo, but there's other highly viable builds. The reason that people get stomped when they play medium without those gadgets is A) they're really not that good to begin with and revives serve "pad" their inability to stay alive, and B) the build most mediums choose as an alternative to the support-build (movement, mine, grenade) is not designed to synergize with both their team and the other gadgets in their loadout. Loved the video! Brought up some very cogent points!

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I think for the medium, I didn't make my points as clear as I wanted to. I only think that the defibs are essential, not the healing beam. And with my main argument, I didn't say that the medium's abilities weren't good, but that they don't have a fantasy like the heavy with defense and destruction and the light with movement and stealth. I was mainly trying to say that medium is trying to be a bunch of different things at once and that they don't really have a main identity that defined them. I think, based on your comment, that you're still gonna disagree with me, but I understand your argument and where you're coming from. I don't want you to think that I'm trying to refute your argument, I just want you to understand my argument a little better.

I agree bro. Beta had some good feeling classes, they felt more placed in their "role." In season 1 I mainly played medium because of the recon and strategic support properties, then i switched to light in seasons 1 and 2 because i felt like i could understand the situation better because I could run in and out. As I play more i feel like the time of fights have gotten lower and medium and heavy don't have as big of a role as they used to i.e heavy defense and mediums recon. From my understanding lights are strong in low elo and week in high elo. I think by boosting lights potential in team fights yet discourage solo play it could help with some of the problems that light has in the game. That's personally how i feel about lights role in the game.

I totally agree with what you said there. I don't exactly know how Embark would discourage solo play and encourage teamwork among lights. Maybe some new gadgets that would buff the team in the moment like the smoke bomb or gateway? Thanks for the comment!

I agree with you, Medium has been nerfed too much this season unless you're using the Model or the FCAR. AKM is ok, but you're severely punished for missing any shots on a class above a Light. Everyone complains about the MMM chain res meta and I don't get it, that's the whole point of a team based game, that's a team supporting each other, the team that actually plays as a team should get the win. I've played both Heavy and Light this season because I'm not thrilled to be Medium anymore, both are fun but some of the builds just feel too OP and it makes it boring to run around and dominate that easily. I hope they figure something out and some updates this season will make it feel better soon.

As a light main , 900 hrs playtime , I strongly disagree , At Higher ranks u dont see any lights. Picking lights = throw , Thats cuz lights dont have a team oriented playstyle , u wander trying to find pickoffs from an angle and if u die , ur 1 man down ,the meta currently is 3 mediums that stick together and defib anyone who dies , continuously keeping the team up , also the pike and model destroy a light. As much as i enjoy playing light , Medium is the strongest , heavy comes after that and lights at the bottom .

I've heard at least two other people in the comments talk about this and I didn't really cover higher end content all that much. I think that there is a stark divide between higher and lower end content with the light definitely dominating the lower end content. I didn't talk about because I haven't touched ranked since it became terminal attack. Ik it's back to cash out now but I still really love world tour, which is a bit more casual. Ik from my personal experience that I do way better as a light in that mode and in quick cash. I might make a video on playing ranked as a light just to see how far I can make it. @@Jedi_Jedmonds Well said, i play on my alt acc when im playin casually with my buddies and its swarmed with lights . Fun class what can you say :D . Also its hard balancing the light ,u cant buff it cuz then it will steamroll the casual community but will make the class viable in higher elos , I think they should add sum more support items to light to make it more team oriented to match the meta , idk balancing stuff man im just a random ass gamer.

I wonder why no one plays Light on top ELO, also there's no lights in tournaments. You should think about this as well. Light is fun to play so most people play light, that does not make it strong as you can see in high ELO. They should definitely make other classes fun to play, that does not mean buffing them. Medium is the strongest class right now and it's not even close.

I´d like to give a different opinion on that topic. I only recently picked up the game, so keep that in mind. I would like to draw a comparison to other games here. Tanks like the heavy class are always outnumbered by assasin builds. Like in wow for example. Its always hard to find a tank. Same is true for support classes. Most people enjoy the fast pace playstyle of assasins, This is even more true for casual gamers, who dont particulary play to win but to have fun. A lot of the fun in fps games comes from the dopamine rush of zooming around the map, dodging enemy attacks, sneaking up on enemies and straight up ouplaying them, because they are in a disadvantage situation stat wise. The light class has this outplay potential you also see in high mechanical champions in league. So in conclusion, even if heavy would be overpowerd af, people would still be more drawn to the light class. But, if light couldn´t stand a chance against those other classes, peoiple would just stop playing the game. Therefor, the devs have an incentive to put the light class in a very good spot, so people actually keep plaing the game.

I agree with what you're saying here. I actually had an appeal portion in the script for this video which was eventually cut. Ik that Destiny 2 has a similar issue with their light class, hunters, where it is overplayed compared to titans and warlocks. Where I would like to push back on your argument is that heavy does not even satisfy its tank fantasy. It has been continuously nerfed with many of its main draws, like the RPG, being especially nerfed. Ik that light will most likely be the most played class, but I think some substantial buffs to medium and heavy will help to make the game more fun for those who like to play support and tank.

warning this comment is way too long lol: I Think whole light "issue" really only a casual mode issue and skill issue because if you play world tour or ranked you will almost always find an mmm team with cl40, model and ak running two heals a turret and all defibs dominating the lobby playing the game like it their 9-5 this season while I only think I've ever won one world tour tournament in season 3-4 with a full light team and I would consider myself an above slightly average player. I think also there's a lot of unnecessary hate towards the class and hypocracy like how the stun gun is too much of a crutch (which it is) but the rpg doing above 150 damage in s1 was just silly fun (s1-4 rpg is still a crutch) or how the sword which has a learning curve is too op but the sledge hammer which is easier to use is just silly fun, I also think a lot of people also seem to forget that the class got a lot of nerfs from ob-s2 with little to no backlash, lights just tried to adapt but when other classes got nerfed in season 3 there was lots of backlash. I think the actual issue with light is it place in benefiting the team since I think people take it less seriously compared to medium and heavy. The only gadgets the help the team are gateways which my teammates will avoid going through like the plague, vanishing bomb which my teammates will make their life goal to make sure I don't use it on them, goo grenades which every class has, glitch grenades which feel kinda useless now compared to ob-s2, the stun gun which only works with mhh teams with a healer medium and to stop steals then finally the sonar grenades which feel like a worse motion sensor. If we had something like a passive to make light be a worthy pick for teams so hml can finally challenge the long lasting hhm, mmh, hhh and mmm teams, it would be really nice

I really like your comment and it summarizes a lot of the feedback I've gotten on this video. I agree with a lot of what you're saying and I'm making a follow up video to this one focusing on the heavy which will address a lot of what you talked about in your comment relating to the general balance. I totally agree with the gateway thing though. I try to make a play where I place down the first gateway, go invis, run to the cashbox and throw down the second gateway so we can catch the enemy by surprise only for my friend who I told to stay by the first gateway to say, "bro, I showed up at the same time as you." Anyways, the point is that I agree with you that we need more team-based light gadgets. Sorry for the rant.

@@Jedi_Jedmonds they could just make defibs start at 50 cooldown when you get revived for example or have a "gadget cap" (might be too extreme of a change but my point is that there are options)

I think you're right that the gadget cap would be too extreme. I don't think that the finals is that type of game. But the cool down idea is pretty interesting. I'm planning on making a heavy video next, but I might bring this up as an aside, citing your comment.

Hallelujah!! As a mesium main, I'm unhappy with how mediums are now. You nailed it, light has too much good stuff. Remove things from light, make Heavies take less damage from light class

Medium and heavy can destroy a light in a 1v1. The only thing a light has is mobility, if you don't use movement and tactics, you get destroyed by the other classes, if the other classes know what their doing. Mediums who are healing each other are literally impossible as a light, and a heavy you pulls you in with the chains and WWE slam you, is literally unstoppable for a light. It ALL comes down to the fact that nobody likes how sluggish medium and heavy feels, so the majority uses light, because of ADHD

I think mediums should be the guns of the team. The scouting and movement should be left to light and heavy needs a buff in my opinion is the least fun class. Great video btw.
