The classification of incentives as "Likely" or "Unlikely" is based on whether or not the player getting the incentive (a bonus for performing a statistical achievement) was done the year before. For example, an RB might be given an incentive of $3M extra if he rushes for 1000 yards or more. If they player achieved this goal the year prior, the incentive is considered "Likely". If the player did not achieve this goal the year before then the incentive is "Unlikely". So in terms of the cap, Likely incentives count straight away towards the current year's cap. Unlikely incentives are not charged to the current year's cap. If a Likely incentive is earned, then the matter is closed since the extra money has already been applied to the cap. But if a Likely incentive is NOT earned, then the incentive money charged to the current year gets refunded back for the next year (ie: next year's cap burden is reduced by the incentive amount). In this instance, using the $3M incentive example from earlier, the hypothetical team's cap hit for next year would be reduced by the $3M. If an Unlikely incentive is not earned then the matter is closed as no extra money was awarded to the player nor was charged to the cap. But if an Unlikely incentive IS earned, then that incentive money is added to next year's cap. There are a few technicalities that can (though rarely) affect these scenarios but this is the standard way incentives are applied to player contracts.

It improves their draft position losing. I wouldn't mind putting Rodgers on IR for a couple of weeks to see what they have in Taylor but most likely he will be like other backups that you think couldn't get worse and they do. Its a form of deserved punishment to make Rodgers playout the season. The more he struggles the more likely he won't come back next year and that's a good thing. This is a mess made by Rodgers every humiliating loss he deserves.

How much money do you think the Jets would have to offer to get Sam Darnold's agent to answer the phone and tell the Jets' gm--whomever that is--to piss off?
I'm definitely not going to defend Woody Johnson, who is incompetent, but Jets fans probably should realize that most owners don't know what the hell they're doing. Most of them are either billionaire egomaniacs that know nothing about football, or born-rich brats that know nothing about football. Any potential GM or HC should expect to work with an owner that makes their lives difficult. Good owners rarely need new GMs or HCs. The Jets have a decent roster, better than you'd expect for a team needing an HC or GM. This is a pretty good job opening.
@markb37869 күн бұрын
Nah. There are plenty of hands-off owners. Jets job sucks unless Woody changes. Woody allowed a wackadoodle QB to destroy the front office and coaching chain of command. Ulbrich was approved by AR, and he defers to AR on all important offensive decisions. Very obvious if you watch. No head coach would run AR's ancient phony offense if they had a chance not to. Saleh is gone because he tried to help the players and fix it. Tell me another team where a QB held the entire team hostage. See Mike Williams now with the Steelers for more evidence of what happens when AR wants you gone.

@markb3786 Like I said, I'm not here to defend an incompetent moron who can't even buy an ambassadorship from a corrupt asshole. My point is that most owners are rich egomanics and have no idea how to run football teams. This is why most teams suck. As a potential GM or HC hire, you have to expect that and learn to deal with it. This is not that bad a job opportunity.

@@markb3786 Like I said, Woody is an incompetent moron that can't even buy an ambassadorship from a corrupt asshole. Either way, there are maybe 5 good owners in the league. Go look at the available GM/HC openings and tell me which team has a good owner. They're all rich egomanics that think they know everything. It's a rare billionaire that doesn't think that way.

If you bench Rodgers it will show how incompetent the Jets really are. I could see if you had a young qb you want to take a look at before the draft but you don't have that. You're paying $50 million for him too play, then let him play.

I disagree with your OL assessment. RE: ANY OL might look good if you have QB who releases the ball...in what???... 2.4s
@joeblog26729 күн бұрын
A mediocre OL might look good if the QB does throw the ball lightning quick after the snap but their deficiencies will show up eventually, guaranteed! As a Dolphins fan who has hated the Nauseating Green since before I was out of grade school, I do know that our OL last year during the second half of the season looked great when Tua, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle were carving up poor defenses with Tua's lightspeed deliveries but when we got to the better defenses that could simultaneously cover the speedsters for 2.4 seconds AND get some pressure on Tua, it was OVER for us. The line couldn't hold up and it became a living hell trying to move the ball on offense to win some games. And don't forget about running the ball with a mediocre line. That wasn't happening either. Our lightning fast runners were able to pick up some yardage, though just barely enough to keep us in games instead of winning them. They had to run everything outside with initial misdirection because our guys couldn't make any holes through the middle. The NFL is run mostly by stupid HCs and GMs and owners that don't have a clue and maybe don't care what the beep is going on with their team as long as they are getting their juicy cuts of TV contracts and filling their stadiums. No team should want an average OL. That sets up for an average season at best. OLs should be punishing and dictating to the defense instead of reacting to terms dictated by the defensive front. Miami had such an OL for the first half of last year until our regulars got shot up by injuries. If NFL people were smart they would put their money in all five of the OL spots. But because OLers aren't flashy, don't score points individually nor pound the stat pages, they get largely overlooked. It's like buying a used car that's had great restoration to its body yet has a chassis that's rotted through. Looks great but runs like yesterday's lunch! Only the remarkable few ever learn.

@joeblog26729 күн бұрын
I think the presenter here is lacking some receipts in characterizing Hackett like that but IDK that he is actually wrong. Hackett has been awful at everything he does since leaving GB (and I don't know that he really did anything there either besides take orders from AR. How he could still have a job after Saleh and Douglas were let go is truly baffling. Sure, those two deserved firing but not more than Hackett! Even after his demotion back to being AR's caddie this year, he's done absolutely nothing in terms of results! This team is run like a Trump / magaT think tank. Personally I couldn't be happier as a Dolphins fan. The NY Jokes guys got their channel name spot on (they're hilarious as well!). My own contribution would be "Aaron's Karens". That pretty much sums up this team!

@@joeblog2672 Hackett and Mike McCarthy are the only two offensive coaches who still run the old Green Bay offense. AR keeps Hackett around to protect his phony 68 secret hand signal offense.
