Something is making our cars uglier, and we can do nothing about it!
In recent years several new laws and regulations have been introduced, and it seems they are ruining the aesthetics of all-new cars! To make matters worse, some of the rules and regulations that have been introduced will alter cars so much, that some relatively new cars have had to go out of production altogether!
In this video, Mat will run you through 10 aspects of cars that are having to change due to these new rules. For example, all new cars have to come with AEB sensors. This stands for autonomous emergency braking. Now of course this is important to help cars avoid collisions, the problem is, it results in large boxes having to be added to the front of new cars, and they just look awful!
But that’s not all! There are now regulations for the size of door mirrors, too. In the past you would expect to see small cars come with compact door mirrors which still served their purpose. However, in the modern day, door mirrors have to come of a certain size, and we think these mirrors just look oversized on certain cars, further ruining the aesthetics!
But of course, one of the biggest law changes that is changing new cars is the banning of internal combustion engines. Previously, the grille on the front of a car was a great way for manufacturers to show off their identity, but the removal of petrol-powered engines means the grilles aren’t required, so manufacturers are now adding plastic grilles which just lend themselves to ruining the car’s aesthetics even further!
The question is, which of these laws and regulations do you think has ruined cars the most? Let us know in the comments!

Volvo feels much cheaper inside than before, XC60 and under. I had over 40 cars, also petrol head so always driving, trying new stuff, been at the Nurburgring many times and so on... If I want good quality and sporty amazing feel, then Porsche. If I want proper interior quality, reliability, luxory and 10 years of warranty, then Lexus. Much better interior quality then the 3 german or Volvo. And I had 7 volvos, but not any more. MG is a cheap chinese EV brand now like many others. And you can add many many more to this list.

If the lights are mounted high, they should be pointed more downwards. The cutoff line should meet the road a certain distance in front of the car. On all cars (in Europe at least) you will find a sticker on or near the lights with a percentage number, ( like -1.5% ) This indicates how much the lights should be pointing downwards, and will vary with the height of the lights.

Hiring unqualified people is a problem for many organizations around the world. Qualified people would be able to fix all these issues without destroying the design of the car. We are seeing this lack of HR hiring skills from car makers to Boeing to the government. And in some cases the work performed by these unqualified individuals is actually dangerous.
@xIcarus227
@xIcarus227 24 күн бұрын
Important to note that the unqualified people are usually those in management. The engineering teams of car manufacturers are usually super good, but the management needs to cut costs everywhere. Ford with the infamous Powershift is a good example. The engineers literally told the management that the transmission will not last, yet they didn't care.

@bdavbdavbdavbdav

I've always felt that was an issue with the cars not having Auto lights. My last 3 cars have had DRLs and auto lights. The Audi even told you in the virtual cockpit if it you had manually turned the lights off and it thought it was too dark. When I've previously driven my wifes car, which has DRLs but no auto lights, and full dash illumination all the time, its pretty easy to forget. I'd argue that if manufacturers are going to fit DRLs, they should fit auto lights.

The sensor on the AMG S-Class doesn't have anything to do with the AEB. It's only there if you buy the Level 3 autonomous system. Correct. Furthermore there is a trend for radar sensors to increase in frequency for better performance, typically from 24GHz to 77-81GHz. These have a shorter wavelength, and are less easily transmitted through metallic paint, hence they are less easily hidden. And yes, they are more frequently found on more expensive cars.

The safety improvements are arguable. All these automatic safety features encourage drivers to just trust their cars to keep them and everyone around them safe which makes drivers less alert and thus less safe. Don't get me wrong, safety is of course important. But AEB and lane keeping assist are good examples of "safety" features that simply encourage drivers to relax and not pay attention.

My Suzuki VItara has the front radar neatly hidden behind the Suzuki logo, the rear lights are not on the trunk door but on the bodywork like they used to be since forever, and larger mirrors are a godsend. DLRs being designed ugly is, again, on manufacturers, the law doesn't say they need to do weird shit with them. And that's how it goes for pretty much everything on this list.

Carwow is simply not the place for reviews, they're good at entertainment and that's just about it. I'm not surprised by the Dacia thing you mentioned and it certainly isn't their only mistake. Go to the Boxster review and you'll see there 'high quality interior' marked as a pro in the shortlist, yet lower down they admit that pretty much everything that makes the interior good is optional. The base interior is pretty poor and you need to spend almost 10 grand on the extended leather package + seats to make it look/feel good, yet it's marked as a general interior perk of the car. Why? I think more than half the Boxsters on sale on the used market don't have the fancy interior. Because of reviews like these people don't even know there's a significant difference. Another big one is that there have been many cars where certain interior bits were criticized yet in other cars the same quality interior bits were ignored. Focus was praised for the soft touch materials near the rear windows, other cars were criticized yet the Golf MK8 wasn't criticized for it. Super inconsistent.

What car is that at 6:14 with all of the silver cases? That looks like a decent amount of cargo storage.

I bought a BMW M340d recently and theyve got particularly stupid mirrors. The mirror is connected to the car at the bottom of the mirror but then there is this phallic projection above that which doesnt do anything except create a totally unneccessary blind spot
