Public schools were of course the original schools, long before state education. Personally I think more parents should have the option to send their children to a public school, if they choose. Some are good, some not so much. But the parents are paying for it as come to that are parents of home schooled children. Why the state has to keep interfering is beyond me.

There are a lot of private schools that offer bursaries and discounts for talented kids who would ordinarily not be able to afford to go there. Adding tax caps onto parents who are already stretching themselves would mean that they are damaging the very people they are trying to give opportunities to.

Finland has no private schools yet the highest education standards. Private schools are just another for the elites to maintain the status quo, to maintain the class system. The UK has the highest income inequality in Europe, apart from Bulgaria.

@@T5Zplayer What's your point? Do you think you're being clever and catching Labour MPs out for being hypocrites? By removing private schools' charity status, Labour MPs who chose to send their kids to private schools will have to pay more, yet they know this is the fairest thing for the nation, not themselves. Do Tories ever implement policies which put the nation first, not themselves?

private schools should be treated like all other schools and not get any special tax treatment.

The lady in checks handed there ass to them. Private schools should not be allowed to dodge taxes. They should pay proper taxes on their investment portfolios as well.

I was brought up in a pit town and attended a comprehensive school. At no time in my education did I ever consider myself to be any different to people in Grammar, Secodary Modern or Private Schools. I wonder what world these presenters live in, they just sit there making derogatory claims about what they are guilty of themselves. Working class people don't give two hoots about private schools. My grandson's best friend was moved by her mother to a Private School and they're still best friends. Her mother is a small business owner whose school run, after school clubs and child minding was costing as much as school fees.

In the town I grew up in their was a massive divide between the private school and the comprehensive Schools in the area and I'm quite sure they didn't do that much out reach

Come on guys Private Schools are divisive. If an egalitarian harmonious society is wanted with Government for the common good you will never achieve it with the products of those top top private schools providing most Prime Ministers and senior cabinet positions. The smaller private schools are not too big a problem , parents who have done well financially in many cases send their perhaps not too bright children to. Similarly many parents with great financial strain send their children, some bright, to these lower tier private schools to give them educational and social advantages. Have you ever tried chatting with an old Etonian or Harrovian, not easy and mainly because of their sense of superiority of themselves. All in all not an healthy situation which most other advanced countries don't have.

Why should the tax payer pay for private schools, billions of pounds of tax payers money go toward schools my child could never go to I work and have done since I left school 20 years ago and have never claimed anything as I’m the “squeezed” middle, which actually means I’m working class and probably always will be This government needs to start taxing the ones who run the system and not just the ones who are on paye

Your opinion is riddled with innaccuracy. not calling you a liar. But I looked this up and find no evidence that billions of tax payer money is going to these schools,
