The part that sucks about losing warped tour is that A LOT of young upcoming bands of all genres could get a spot on a tiny side stage and get some attention and notice, sell some demos and maybe some merch. Getting to see 20+ bands that YOU ACTUALLY LISTENED TO all at one place was amazing as well. That was why it was worth the ticket price. RIP warped tour. A handful of bad apples had to ruin it for the rest of us

I've not gone to a single Warped Tour in my life. But I remember how big of an impact it really was in the 2000s to have heard it everywhere. It was just one of THE best tours to go to at all, next to other yearly festivals like Ozzfest as well. But you know it's gone the way of like the E3 event, they've just had their time in the sun and thrived in a developing culture where people once did value community. Losing community and relevancy over time, will just doom you to the point where you're more known for the bad than you were for the good. There's just no going back. I don't think Warped Tour should return, because it'll just set itself to burn again and eventually the founder will just have to learn the lesson the hard way. Some things were just better in the past.

This stuff makes me sad. I only got to go to Warped once, in 2018, the very last tour. I spent most of my teenage years desperately wanting to go as I was balls deep into all flavors of punk, ska, hardcore, and so forth in those days, but couldn't because of a lack of funds and because my parents would have flayed me alive if I had. So, getting to go to the last one as a 32 year old was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I was staggered by the diversity and found it very moving that a bunch of kids knew the words to all these songs just as well as all the middle aged people like myself did. I didn't realize there were so many underlying issues (other than Radke, of course). I enjoyed the chaos but I can see how it lead to a lot of the unpleasant stuff you mentioned. I'll always remember two things from that day, though. The first happened while I was in line. A small band went around handing out demo discs. This in itself is certainly common at Warped, but these dudes were all shirtless with their band's name (can't remember it) written across their chests, and they were being lead by a white guy with dreads playing a massive tuba. The other thing was Reel Big Fish, which was the first band I saw that day. They were great, but a joke that Aaron cracked still makes me chuckle when I think of it. One of their best known songs is called "Beer". After they played it and were getting ready for the next song, Aaron plays a quick chord on his guitar and goes, "I call that chord 'Drunk Minor'...speaking of which, I see a few of those in the audience already." I stayed from open to close of the show, and this was late July in the south eastern US, so I was sunburnt and exhausted by the end of the day, but I'd sure as shit do it all over again.

A traveling rock tour is incredible in theory, but in practice I don't think it's sustainable, whether or not it's morally correct. It's kind of a shame cause Warped Tour broke so many bands over so many years, but unless you either trim down the lineup or reduce the total amount of shows, I don't see it happening. It's such a logistical catastrophe it'd be hard to pull off in the current environment where touring is already financially costly.

@@LycheeCamp agreed on celebrating timeless music though like you pointed out emo and i would say even large chunk of meal/rock/pop punk/etc is stuck in the nostalgia/ elder cringe mindset. This has contributed to the negative view of those genres as "safe music" or "parent music" also doesn't help the lack of newer acts able to headline in those genres either. rock and those genres are in a weird place, it will be interesting to see if a festival like sad summer or others are around in the next few years as the fanbase continues to get older and not younger since less kids are getting into rock or guitar music these days. the genre is not staying young or exciting

Warped Tour should absolutely come back. There are always going to be shitty problematic people who have no place anywhere other than a cell. But there are also more bands that got their starts there and more people who have life long friendships or even relationships that were made at Warped that would have never happened. There's nothing like that where new up and coming bands can get their names out there. The later years of warped absolutely had a culture and community. Its the community and culture of Alt music. And the elitist issue wouldn't not be a thing even if they just kept it to the late 90s and early 2000s version, nor would the shitty people.
@DMaggieMagee4 ай бұрын
🔥Hell yeah! My entire Warped Tour experience was the last five years, 2015 through 2019, and I had an absolute blast at each one and also found community. One of the best things about Warped (besides the ticket price) was discovering SO MANY new bands and actually getting to interact with them. I'll never forget being right at the front of the tiny Full Sail stage for Movements in 2017 and then talking with each bandmember afterward...they signed our t-shirts and posed for pics...then in 2018 taking Pat's course on songwriting...literally only six of us signed up for it(!) followed by them closing out a packed Journey's Right Foot stage...and now look at them! I would say the cringiest thing for me during that period would have to be the KZbinrs tent (including Bryan Stars) in 2015...just ick.😖 I'd def be up for a return and btw the formula you propose (the one-off or a few weekends) has been done or is being done many times over. Just went to Pointfest in St Louis in May; Adjacent in Atlantic City in May 2023 (apparently a fabulous one-off); headed to Sad Summer Fest in NYC in a couple weeks (not a big fan of many of the bands but adore Knuckle Puck🤘); and this will be my third WWWY Fest...all great fun...all require travel and a much higher ticket price than Warped...so if your goal is to rule out underage kids being dropped off at the gate by a parent, then you'll likely achieve it, but that was never the point of Warped and there's already so much elitist crap in this world.

forgot Lost Profits and As I Lay Dying in the list. they're def considered "warped tour" bands....and both far more legit than the Neck Deep dude, where the allegations led nowhere. hell....didn't even mention All Time Low. when it comes to "community" there are a lot of gatekeeping scenesters who see The Fest and PRB with nothing but a good time, but shit on Warped Tour because the major label corporate bands got the crowds, and it fucked with the more DIY bands. Warped Tour had it's own community, and now half hearted nostalgia-bait bands playing into the Warped Tour aesthetic are getting serious numbers on Tiktok to an audience who were too young to go to Warped Tour in the first place. it really is an age thing. when it comes to diversity, i don't really see too much difference between 1999 where blink-182, Eminem, No Doubt, NOFX, and GWAR played, and 10yrs later when Alkaline Trio, MGK, Less Than Jake, TSOL, and Ice Nine Kills played. what REALLY killed Warped Tour was it grew too big, and had no way to shrink. and the 2nd chance rule: that piece of shit literally walked into the venue surrounded by security, walked on stage, played his set, and left the venue, all surrounded by security. as much anger as i might have for that....at the end of the day, i can understand that decision to let it happen, and it was handled right. that dude is very sick, and built a life and career on the theraputic catharsis of art and music. he fucked up bad, and had that all ripped away without an encore...so to carve out a small section of time for him and make sure every single person was safe and he was in and out quickly was probably healthy. he played 1 set on 1 date of Warped Tour...so the people like me who were not ok with it could just watch another band playing the same time. i think Warped Tour should absolutely come back. it won't. if it did, i would expect it to be like the last one, 2-3 days in 1 venue space in 2-3 venue spaces. longer set times for bigger artists, and more side-show stuff. in essence Warped Tour was just a combination of Riot Fest, Punk Rock Bowling, and When We Were Young but cheaper ticket price and toured.

Sounds easy but Warped thought they were doing that before. Look how it worked out?

@@RockedNetstill possible. People are jumping on it to die. Warped needs to live for the sake that it would really help the music industry today. Many places music has dried up locally. Bring back warped without Lyman. That's how it needs to be done and have the other bands banned.

I went to warped your in 09, 10, 11, 12 and 13 and the environment was great for all of them. There was never anything shady about any of them. I went in 99 too. I liked all of em.

Went to the Australian Warped tours in the 90s and early 2000s and did a Warped tour in the states was always a cracka day ..as I am nearly 50 years old now I don't do festivals anymore

I am reminded that of Guitar Hero 2 which had a Warped tour level where you perform songs by the Allman Brothers and Stray Cats. Not exactly Warped Tour music but can't go wrong with "Jessica".

Let it die. The band's care too much about who sponsor's festivals now. The Barclay's embarrassment is enough to show that "Scene" is full of activists that don't even write good music. At least 'Rage in Defence of The Machine' can write, and perform well.

You clearly know nothing about hard-core or what the bands in the scene stand for. Creed still exists for you papa

I'll never forget going to warped tour in 2014 watching Terror for the first time and trying to join in on a crazy circle pit and instantly getting shoved to the ground when I got in it and scraping the shit out of my arm on the concrete 🤣

If they bring it back there would have to be a line to where the second chance rule can apply. And the first year would have to be mostly legacy acts with a bit lesser young blood bands. Nostalgia will bring it attention. Then the next year will bring more of the young bloods and bring in the younger crowd. But tickets will have to be cheap like they used to be otherwise it’s just not going to work.

Personally if you ask me, I think it should stay dead as it was a product of it's time and perfect for capturing the time schedules. Honestly, this video shows proof why I hate Metalcore from 2008-2013 and find it one was one of the worst eras of Metalcore

I remember when Guttermouth left the Warped Tour, although not necessarily voluntarily. They were going to get booted for making fun of bands like Yellowcard and Anti-Flag from the stage. (coincidentally, Justin Sane from AF also has SA allegations against him) So just to recap, SA allegations gets you a second chance, but shit talking about other bands for their stage clothes or screaming rants about George Bush gets you booted from the tour.

I’m too old. Even if it did come back with the ultimate lineup, I’m not going. I live in central Florida now and I’m not standing outside in Florida heat all day in July/august. Not that Minneapolis was super cool weather but it’s brutal out here.

I saw many great bands at Warped Tour, my first was 1996 and a few years later did street team work for Dropkick Murphys so got backstage, met many amazing bands. I also got to see which bands and artists were huge jerks. Kid Rock slightly before he got big was like Jamie Kennedy from Malibu's Most Wanted aka in he tried hard to be black. Further proving how fake he is now...and then. He acted like a rock star and it pissed others off. The guy from The Used refused to leave his bus but did when young groupies were around it. The guys from Good Charlotte were one of the only bands I ever saw with security with them and an entourage. By the final Warped Tours I attended, a bunch of the older bands were actually staying in different backstage areas away from the younger bands. I think they started to see a change as well. Coolest person I met...Andrew WK. The guy hung with us after all the bands left. He even jumped in a car with some fans and went to 7-11 and his manager had no idea where he was. Should it return...It was going way downhill when it ended and it would be way too overpriced now if it did happen. NOW if it were a lineup similar to the No Values show with many legendary bands, hell yes, well worth it. Warped lost its way, became too corporate. It would never be the same. I doubt though unless run by the right people for the right reasons you would ever see Warped Tour like it once was and like it was originally meant to be.

I've been to 8 Warped Tour fests in one city and 2 in another, which were good times. If The Fronz wants to bring back WT, count me out. There are better smaller festivals out there with fresher bands. Who needs Warped Tour in this day and age?
