I know right, people spend so much energy on complete nonsense. It's been part of "politics" for a while in different forms. I blame certain kinds of church or preacher for priming people to think like this (working hand in hand with republicans since Reagan); and social media for turning it into a fun social activity. However, a reason it appeals to people so much is that they can sense that their government and institutions do not have their best interests at heart. They are perfectly correct in that intuition, but their attempts to explain that feeling to themselves are thrown off track by a combination of ideology and psychological defense mechanisms. The depressingly mundane explanations for failure, exploitation and decay (things like regulatory and legislative capture, and even more subtle and pernicious forms of influence) get turned into something fantastic and conspiratorial.

@@jimcrelm9478 Yes, I've found this too. Some conservatives agree there are huge problems, but misidentify the cause and therefore the solutions.

I think it's due to their own insecurity/feelings of inadequacy. This makes them feel smart; this, believing that they know something that the average person doesn't.

@@compassionandhumility From what I read about Conspiracy Theory peeps, it is kind of a "I have the SUPERIOR knowledge!" Thing. I get a bit snooty myself, not good. But, some college occurred in my life, so I know what's likely to be a good source. And cross checking I will show the CS people the source! And they're like, naaah.😭

Technically all deaths are "sudden." You are alive and suddenly you're dead 🤷‍♂️
