As a player that never got to experience Splatoon 1, I would love for them to add Kraken to Splatoon 3. Reworking it could make it work just fine in the game. If not, then at least add them into private battles for players to get to play with those specials. EDIT: THEY ARR BRINGING BACK KRAKEN!

I love this idea for a reworked Kraken (kinda similar to my own personal idea) and would love to see it return. Kraken is still the coolest concept for a Special imo, as it takes an urban legend surrounding the main species of Splatoon, and allows you to transfirm into said legend. Being able to see a new Kraken design for Inklings and Octolings would also be a dream-come-true. Hopefully if they do add new Subs and Specials, they wont add them super late into the update cycle, like with Splatoon 2.

Haven’t seen the video yet, but a while ago I had the idea for a Kraken rework with a small bit of HP (with startup lag ofc) that one-shots, but can only splat one person - after it gets the kill the special ends in a small Baller-like explosion with endlag at the end. It obviously wouldn’t work in Splatoon 3, since it’s basically just a better Reefslider, but I think it would be fun to see.

Fun idea to bring Kraken back, but I'm curious how kraken would work in Clam Blitz. 1: Would you be able to pick up clams as the Kraken, or would you be unable to collect any of them (dropping the football on activation). 2: If you can carry the football as a Kraken, you wouldn't be able to throw it until the special ends. But you can throw it once the special ends, even if it's your last act. Such as dropping a bomb when the Kraken wears off, but before the player is punished. 2.1: Reefslider allows you to carry the football, but you loose it after the explosion. You have to pick up the football again to throw it, making it difficult to bum-rush the goal by yourself. 2.2: Ultrastamp lets you carry and keep the football, while letting you deactivate the special anytime (with the throw). But the Ultrastamp's defense is position based, not HP, making it risky to go into enemy territory. 2.3: Assuming the Kraken can carry the football, the Kraken would be able to make solo pushes, and almost guarantee a score. 3: The best defense against a Kraken rush would be the powerful weapons that could knock it back, a pre-charged Hydra which can shatter its HP, or another Kraken. BONUS 1: Kraken on Kraken. The Kraken does 160 base damage. At 500 HP that's 4 hits (640 damage) to kill another Kraken, or 3 hits (480 damage) if a teammate contributes at all. 2: Special Power Up: would probably increase duration (on an already long special at 7 seconds), or increase health (which everyone would run).

i had a concept for kraken i want to run by that fits in line more with the reworks that splatoon 3 made to the 1 special it's a surfboard kraken that moves very fast and can't ever stop moving/can climb walls, and has a small amount of HP along with it. it would also allow you to use your main weapon while moving on it, which I think might give it some utility unique to it, while keeping the short ranged kill jump. i liked the idea of zipcaster as a pure movement special a lot, so I came up with this idea as a similar concept- something that is primarily meant to move around fast, be difficult to hit, be annoying, while also giving it some aggressive options

I had an idea of giving it the ability to hide in ink with a ninja squid effect. you would be completely invisible, but there would be noise and you would have the same HP as normal. if a squid roll is preformed when doing this, its a one shot with a cool sound effect. when not hiding in ink, it has the extra HP (maybe the same as crab), but you need to combo 2 squid rolls to get a kill. each hit would do 60 damage and would put a toxic mist effect on them for a few frames. the duration would be 5-7 seconds. I even thought of a good name being kraken roll. (also I really want tri-slosher to have burst/splat bomb kraken)

I made a Kraken re work concept a while back called the Kraken Krew, it would have two main components, the first would be an invincible version of ink armor and the second part would be a surrounding ring of mini Krakens, there would be 3 rings each and they spin fast enough to consistently paint a perfect circle around you, this special has a long start up to prevent it being used as a panic button (around 5 seconds) and it’s not truly invincible, if you’re in squid form and someone lobs a bomb (by that I mean anything that can break a flyfish box) in the center of the Kraken rings where you are the Kraken Krew will malfunction and attack the user and splat them, being touched by any of the mini Krakens means instant death, the mini Krakens are always locked to the ground, unless you’re on a wall, they’ll sit on the wall instead to that you can actually climb it, after a squid surge the mini Krakens will then circle around you in the air in an attempt to kill anyone by the ledge, there’s 1 more part of this special, the Kraken Kannon, whenever you press the sub button (or when your special runs out) your special gauge will drain a lot slower and you’ll enter an aiming mode where you’ll gain access to the ability to launch the Kraken Krew, it’s a very fast projectile that is an instant kill, it’s high enough off the ground to where someone could dodge it by entering squid form, this projectile is locked to the ground (you can only launch it forward not up or down) and if it hits any kind of wall it will disappear, you can still do this if your special runs out but you won’t be able to aim it (it kinda just launches) and the projectile will be a lot slower. If anyone who actually read this has any questions please ask me, I’d love to answer them.

I'd love to see it come back, I really miss the Splatoon 1 specials. One thing you didn't touch on too much is "how good would it be in Splatoon 3?". I don't think it would be brokenly powerful, but I do think it might be an interesting counter to Booyah Bomb. If someone throws a Booyah Bomb at their feet, activate Kraken, tank the bomb, then squish them as they come down. I guess it depends on whether or not Booyah Bomb has knockback, but if it counters Booyah Spam I'm all for it.

Another new cool feature for kraken would be to have the splashdown effect when super jumping. Super jumping with kraken in splatoon 1 always felt odd cuz you would just see a gint squid land so it would make sense to have a shockwave on impact. However this would effect your HP so whenever you superjump you will get -250 HP Making you more punishable after super jumping.

I feel if they do bring it back it would be reworked as a "New" special like how wail is. Or how wavebreaker is a reworked echo-locator. So, saying this imagine the new special to function as a maws in salmon run. Basically, you swim in ink and can go underneath players to eat and one shot them but in the process your vulnerable to being splatted. Obviously, you'd have more health than normal. Plus, there isn't really a transformation that is similar to this idea. Also, maybe we will get the 8 ball ranked mode in the next season...

Don't care if it was broken or whatever, even back in Splatoon 1 it was the coolest idea for a special, one that's still based on your abilities, where if you had Ninja Squid, good luck moving anywhere, but if you had Swim Speed it'd speed you up. Maybe if you wanted to balance it, maybe Swim Speed should have no effect, and have more than just shooters being able to shove it back, it *could* work. I guess if it had HP, the question would be would the player just be Splatted or revert to normal, working like Baller in 2. Regardless they had an unused Octoling version of the Kraken in Splatoon 1's files and it'd be dope of we truely got to see it too.

Eh, I think stamp is a perfectly cromulent evolution for kraken. Even if they see you coming you can always bail by chucking the hammer and have a full tank to work with. The only thing kraken had going for it was its total invincibility for 5 seconds. Giving it HP and knockback when hit guarantees it won’t be doing anything beyond total surprise flanks.

pretty neat. ive always wanted to experience the kraken from splatoon 1 since i never really got to play it. so much so that a little bit after splatoon 3 released i decided i wanted to combine it with my favorite new mechanic with a certain new weapon from splatoon 2. so i mixed the dualies roll mechanic with the kraken. i called it the "krak-n-dash" and it works basically like the roll does it just gives the kraken attack while dashing in the direction you choose. this also gives a lot more distance to the roll/dash and gives you the kraken invincibility as well, but only when dashing, so it could work somewhat as a panic button but i also wanted to make it fairly slow to compensate for the invincibility and distance. just thought it would be pretty cool.

Yknow. I think the one special that serves to replace kraken in this game would be zipcaster. Maybe not in terms of pure use cases, but both specials like to be really close. But the biggest common ground between the two is that they're both form changing specials. Zipcaster is the first physical form changing special since kraken. Kind of an opposite since it now changes the human form instead of the swim form But I do agree there's still room for kraken to return, definitely. And they could very much design a unique octoling form for it just like they did with the zipcaster octoling form.

I want Kraken completely reworked. Stylistically, when I think of a Kraken, I think of a monstrosity, not a squid with a strong browline. Mechanically, a Kraken 3.0 would work similar to a Salmon Run Maw, even down to enemies being able to end the special by throwing a time-delayed bomb into its attack reticle. The difference though is that the user could cancel the attack at any time before it surfaces, which would let the user play chicken with the enemy ("Should I waste my ink throwing a bomb when the Kraken may cancel? Do I call their bluff?"). The hurtbox of the Kraken (a series of tentacles jutting from the ink and enveloping the target) would stay out for a few seconds even after a whiff, and would block enemy fire (giving it secondary utility as a short-duration wall).

How would work the Kraken while dropping around of Super Jumps? I do remember when dropping Super Jump it was a dangerous landing unless you triggered it half a second before seeing the ground or you would be cooked

Kraken would be nice to have come back. I just dont think they should give it to supports or backlines. 1. Ballpoint already has an agro kit sort of, and doesn’t need another one. 2. Big swig won’t be able to defend itself when it goes fully in on the enemy and the timer goes out. I could see it working ok at protecting itself from flanks, but big bubbler is still more useful in my eyes. Some weapons simply can’t always play aggressive.

Everyone knows my take by now, I have a psycho opinion that is basically “if everything is op, nothing is op” the crack balancing of splatoon 1 made for the most fun I’ve ever had in an online game, but I’ve had probably the same enjoyment when flounder heights was added into splatoon 3. I would love to see an octoling kraken, and would love the kraken back, it was thrilling to use and thrilling to fight. I think it would’ve been awesome in single player too, doesn’t even have to be multiplayer, in the universe of splatoon there’s rules in battles, thus why the specials were toned down, iirc the in universe reason was because they were too powerful. in Octo valley there are no rules.

My only problem with the squid rule added to the Kraken is I know that not a lot of people even squid rule unless you're either a competitive player or you actually care to learn some of the tips and tricks of the game but I know a lot of people don't care for the casuals

I feel like Big Swigs support design doesn't fit Kraken's play style exactly, it could work if Swig got buffs to make it more of a mid-line aggressive weapon rather than a weak chip damage dealer. Giving Swig Beakons could be nice but having two weapons with both Beakon and Kraken wouldn't have much variety, maybe instead of Beakon something like Ink Mine could be good seeing as kraken can move through enemy ink efficiently.

As someone who’s played as Kraken on Splatoon 1, I would like to say for the people that never experienced it before just buy a Wii U on eBay and splatoon and bam you can experience the invincibility you can acquire.

Kraken should come back but with health instead of straight invincibility and have the special time of 6-7 seconds and ink trail is a bit smaller. And swimming in emeny ink will slow you down for the first few seconds if your in the other teams ink.

You forgot the splatoon 3 effect. It would need to be a tri kraken somehow. I propose kraken can throw two additional krakens like an auto bomb that go hunt whatever squid they find. If they kill it they go off in random directions to distract players. The main krakens HP would be nerfed a ton because now they have clones, and the enemy may not know which kraken is the real one. Kinda like the big man boss battle.
