Should we swap vanlife for boatlife? Something a bit different this week. We were invited to attend Boatlife Live at the National Exhibition Centre to see if boatlife can offer the same perks as vanlife? We will be making the switch?

lol, we were at the camping show on Saturday. You walked through the car park past the front of our van. We were going to say thanks and hello to you if we spotted you at the show. No wonder we didn’t spot you both there, you were considering going to the dark side 😂

During lock down i first looked at boating. Then circumstances changed and i remembered delivering a lwb fiat van to a guy who said he was going to convert it into a campervan. Time has passed and i am still waiting to get into van life. I have been watching your van build and just my opinion van life will be less time consuming compared to boating. But there is a lot of pros. I await with interest what you eventual do. Keep on going

I think it all depends what the purpose of your vehicles are. We have had 2 narrowboats, caravans, large motorhome and now a vw campervan and basecamp caravan. We work full time so these various vessels have always been used for leisure on our days off. In that sense as lovely as our boats were....we did the same journeys up and down the same stretch of canals. However if you had lots of time then a slow boat is great. Obviously things to consider....how quickly you want to travel, boat licence fee annually, mooring costs, boat safety certificate and taking the boat out every couple of years to black the bottom, engine servicing and insurance. If i was retiring or looking for a small living space, i would love another boat. But i would still keep the vw!!😂

We are definitely thinking of the boat as the 'home'. There are limitations, as you say, about having a permanent mooring and having to do the same stretch of water for cruising. Sounds like you must have had some good adventures in all your vehicles.

@@pitched_up_wanderers 😁 yes we have!! If it was for living on it would definitely be a narrowboat for me. I know this sounds weird but they feel so much more substantial somehow!! I wouldn't ever buy new personally as there are so many luxurious boats second hand but always get a boat survey done. Never risk it. Good luck deciding 😁

Hi guys.. my 2 pence worth.. Ive also looked at boat life, but it seems that the rivers are way more crowded these days, and sometimes you can be moored up alongside another boat, and have to walk across their boat to get to the tow path.. that said.. it was just a YT video I watched.. they also had to deal with the inevitable low life idiots threatening god knows what.. and finally, you would be without a road vehicle if you ever want to nip into the local town etc, so would have to make use of local bus services... on the plus side, the peace and tranquility would possibly far outweigh all of that.. and I don't think that can be topped at all.. Id take a day out on a river any time over a van.. and yes im building out a van too, lol.. pros and cons of both I guess.. van life also has its challenges as you know, and no idea what the futures gonna hold for petrol or diesel vehicles etc.. loved this video! Oh and check out Laura try on KZbin.. she rowed the Atlantic with some others in one of those boats

I would concentrate on finishing the van build and use it a while! You could always sell it and use the money towards a boat if thats what you decide you really want.

We definitely plan to get Nessa finished. Perhaps the boat could be our 'home' and we can ditch the brick house.
