This is the way our whole puranas are made. No one gives their answer. They refer it to a chat had by elders on similar lines earlier and quote it then. There was absolute humility and it's so delightful to watch on the same lines. Thank You Dushyant Ji. However in my house and in the generations till now, hair is not left loose. It is said that at home we have our God's and Goddesses around and it is important to remain respectful. This is just our version at home. Leaving at the individual's choice is the right way to conclude.

You'd mentioned that people might have started thinking that letting the hair loose might bring about something inauspicious. But I think it's the other way round. People think letting the hair loose is done only when something inauspicious happens. It's always related with sorrow, death, anger and other negative emotions. Also it has to do with outward propriety. Our civilization has been conditioned to find loose hair uncouth irrespective of gender. When hair spikes were the talk of the town, I always wanted to sport one but my mother and grandmother would comment, 'Dei enna da idhu paaka goramaa irukku'.

I have asked my child and the elders to watch your video. I am free now.

good observation. Adding to yours, if we leave everything to people's choices, we would be living in a terrible society of chaos and anarchy. We inculcate values and discipline in all walks of life. Men are expected to shave, trim their mustache/ beard etc.. . when they work in civilized spaces like military, police, business etc.. Tying hair is a hygienic and good etiquette/ dress code. It could also be a safety code in some circumstances. No one can force such things of cultural value in India, however, adult men and adult women should do the right thing after knowing the pros & cons.

Very nicely explained sir! 👏👏. As you said it’s only while cooking, the one who cooks should tie the hair. During other times it’s their choice. Women should have the right to do as they wish, that is, they also know what’s right and wrong. They need not be neither told what to do nor judged for their actions. They are not someone’s property, and the sooner men and women, especially the orthodox ones, understand this, the better!

“Choose what they want... “very well balanced after all the elaboration. Very well researched and attention drawn in ia modest way I remember one more instant where hair is let loose that was not mentioned by Shri Dushyant : that is when a death happens the women are asked to open their hair, turn to south and prostrate to the dead body or the direction in which side the body is carried as a final farewell .. because they don’t accompany to the cremation ground

This talk was satisfying at many levels.. one main reason being that you weren’t gender specific, and very logical explanation based on scriptures which were story telling tools, the detailed description of characters were meant for the readers to visualize the person , the scene, as there were no cameras or video recording gadgets. They are pure literature. But here we are today where we want to use these for regression and manipulate the minds. Thanks to you all that can change.

A very beautiful explanation. The topic that was taken up, which is , is it necessary to question whether hair should be tied or let loose had been answered wonderfully, by stating the amount of importance that has been given to that part of our body in our scriptures. Ram ram anna. Yes ofcourse, it's the individual's wish to tie their hair, but the women in Indian tradition/Dharmam tied their hair. None of the mahaans, or devatha moorthys encouraged loose hair. It's said that open hair is a negative sign (ofcourse hair or dress doesn't have anything to do with moksham, but culture is important). You, Being a renowned speaker who says Sri Mahaperiyava is one of your guru, shld tell whats right. Periyava never encouraged loose hair (he says in dheivathin kural and in penmai yen potrapadavendum) . Even other religion women doesn't leave their hair open. There's definitely a static energy force in our (combing the hair and keeping near a piece of paper would prove this). Since none of the mahaan encouraged this, this is definitely wrong! But again it's the individual's choice. Thank you. Ram ram.

I have great respect for your intelligence and the knowledge you have acquired and still acquiring in such a young age. You do know how to involve your audience and your humor is interesting. That said your explanation about tying up hair or letting it loose leaves me with the following feeling. I feel you are not forthcoming in your explanation and you are very guarded in your opinion. You keep saying you should leave it the individual's wishes and must not enforce our opinion on anyone. This is not about thrusting our wish but to know what the shastras say about it. We have always considered letting loose our hair as a negative act and we have seen ladies openig their hair during deaths of some close ones. We have read Kaikeyi keeping her hair open when Mantara wins her over by her speech. We Hindus are always scared to opine openly our views and hide behind the words like "we should not interfere". This is the very same attitude which has weekened us and allowed others to take advantage of us. Sir we should get out of this apathy and you were totally a disappointment in this regard.

Dushyant ji's objective here was to cite examples from scriptures about the practice and reasons behind it. This should taken as reinforcement of beliefs and take it to the future generations with confidence. Leaving it to the individual is only when the kids grow into individual being and to give them space to realize themselves.

How about one more reference in the Mahabharata - Stree Parva where all widows of Hastinapura marched with Dritharashtra with hair locks untied to cremate/attend final rites of their dead warrior husbands? Another example of open hair signifying something ominous. Yes I do agree that if women are expected to tie their hair so are men expected to wear a shikha and tie it as well. Finally, to me it comes down to a matter of respect (or not) for cultural symbolism. Why does the police wear a certain attire, why does the navy/airforce wear a certain attire/ why does a doctor wear a white coat, etc. Thanks a lot for this well researched peace of work.

Earlier days we used to eat sitting on the floor. By leaving the hair open there is a chance os hair fall in the dining area.it can fly and fall into your food plate which is very unhygienic. This also is one of the day reason why females are asked to tie the hair. When a death occurs in a family the vadiyar while doing the kriya instructs all ladies to untie the hair (virichu pottungo) so leaving the hair open somehow rekindles the memory of the sad event

First of all, there is no organized spiritual education centers for Hindus in India anymore as it used to be in earlier times. Nobody goes to Gurukulam and live a Brahmachari/Brahmacharini lifestyles to study and analyze scripture anymore, so that they can make informed decision out of their own choice. In this age of Kali, the only institution in India that teaches Hinduism is their own home and parents and society. So, you yourself has told that there are enough instances in Itihasas and Puranas in favor of tieing hair in normal time and keep it open in adversarial times such as Asaucham and Vedic Shastras only gives instructions but not commands, then is it not our duty to follow those scriptures and age-old cultures? I totally understand that it should not be imposed, but given current circumstances of India where Hindu spiritual education is almost non-existant, why not Hindus should follow their scripture rather than their own false ego boosted by your false justifications? In brief, IT SHOULD NOT BE IMPOSED, BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT SHOULD NOT BE ENCOURAGED EITHER. YOUR LECTURES ARE MORE ON THE SECOND LINE. If you give too much freedom of choice for everything, especially in Kaliyuga, where people are of short memory and full of envy, lust and greed, and no idea of responsibilities, a society will only lead to anarchy and chaos. Freedom comes with responsibilites, which was mostly applicable in Satya yuga, but not in this age of kali.

Sanatan dharma has nothing to do with hair, as some comments say. Ordinary dharma, dos and don'ts, are for institution. Sanatan dharma or service to the supreme lord, or devotion/love for the lord, is for the lord. Krsna says in bhagavat Gita that anything offered with love will satisfy me. Further in caitanya caritamrta he even says that the love of even the vaikuntha basis, who consider him God, doesn't satisfy him, bcos it's diluted with feelings of awe and reverence. He says, only the live of braja basis satisfy me, bcos they consider me like a son, friend or lover. When only pure love satisfies the lord, what can ordinary religion accomplish. Therefore however proud one may be of one's mundane dharma, it's bound to be faulty. However, for an institution to run, there are rules. And u can see that these are just institutional rules by seeing that there are so many Inconsistencies between different mundane religions, like Hindu, Muslim, Christianity. While hindus may pride in their religion, some of the muslim customs do more justice to Hindu values. Like we say that a women shouldn't show her face in front of any man other than husband, well, the only way to accomplish this is the Muslim way!!! So point is, so much for institutional religions, or organised religions. Real religion, or sanatan dharma, means love God. In Jagannath Puri, one Muslim wanted to offer food to Jagannath. He was refused by the guards. Jagannath personally accepted it, and then declared that from that day this particular foodstuff will be accepted by him as soon as it is cooked. This is none other than the famous khaja. Lord Rama accepted the love of even a vulture, who ordinarily eats meat. he rejected many a proud people. what then is the value of such a tiny puny argument as tied/untied hair.

The simplest explanation is that women should just get a boy - cut or go bald . No need to tie then? Is this a possible solution guruji ? This way there will be no hair on our food , no fungul infections or any other problems .
@ersonali124 жыл бұрын
If you respect symbolism then also know that turning bald means something else all together for women.

Even more simpler solution is that those men who have a problem with hair, cook themselves. This will also save the proposed haircut money. This will improve their appreciation of how much the women work hard, and this will increase the level of taste they feel when eating food cooked by women. What do you think?
