I'm glad you mentioned waiting for future iterations. This is likely to be hugely successful, so I wouldn't be surprised if an updated version will be offered in the future. I'm just going to wait for their next crowdfunding campaign since I have plenty of games to play.

Great analysis, and you did help me make up my mind, so thanks for that. I'm as FOMO-prone as anyone, but I've still decided to wait for the (inevitable, now that you mention it) next crowdfunding campaign to make a final decision. These days I'm very picky with which campaigns I back, and with both the TMB Trove Chest and Burncycle on my shelf of shame I can't really justify shelling out the amount of money this one would cost - not even to myself, and I'm usually very easy to convince in these matters. Also, there'll be a 10th anniversary Collector's edition of Firefly coming to Gamefound soon, and that is one game my wife actually knows and likes, so if I back anything over the next few weeks, it's probably going to be that. As I said, gotta be picky with what I back. Btw, while I love your videos, and usually find your points and opinions well thought-out and very useful, you could try talking a bit slower some time, dude - just saying ;-)

Honeslty them having another campaign in the future is the reason I'm backing now. Not hugely attached to the IP but I feel like I'll enjoy the character progression and combat. Not thrilled that expansions going forward will have an alternate clash mat that's just for flavor, the expansion prices later will only go up, but I can see myself being happy with just this pledge.

Great analysis. One more point on shipping. Living in Australia , the reduced shipping is a big deal for this one (and the flat rate shipping on previous campaigns was also something that made big orders possible). If shipping is getting charged in all future campaigns, then any reprint suddenly becomes almost untenable for me.

I've been on the fence between this or Hexplore it which is also going on at the same time and you definitely pushed me into the later and will not back. Great points all around.

If they truly won't subsidize shipping next time then it'll be $145 + $15 shipping for the U.S. since we aren't paying for everyones outrageous shipping charges.

CTG games are always more expensive in their store after campaigns (from 10 to 35%).

I keep having a gander at it since I'm solo only an I've heard great things about chip theory, the price puts me off but the stretch pay is a great function to spred it out

I love the IP and I like what I have seen in the playthroughs. And the fact it won't take me 15 years to finish a campaign, extra points. And I like the push and pull of skill building I see here.

It looks fine but I'm already way too deep into TMB to get this. Especially since it actually look less deep than TMB to me. The class is just a back up plan and the skill lines look fine but limited space on the character mat. Also to me the narrative is actually a negative, I need quick games these days that I can jump straight in. I can do a solo TMB tyrant campaign in 1 to 2 hours max and feel satisfied.

Number one reason I didn’t Bacchus because of the rulebook number to it just doesn’t seem like it’s open world number three I’ve invested everything into Skyrim the adventure board game and I’m having a ton of fun with that

I was very excited by pre-campaign page, but after I've seen playthrough - I pass without any doubts. The game obviouly revolves around character development and customization. This part seems pretty interesting. Everything else is meh. Non-combat encounters - some flavor text, then choice between 2 options with listed outcomes. Town phase - gain (not even buy) new items, train/learn (for free) skills, take a quest (most likely to go from A to B, plus maybe kill something there). Main quests seem pretty simplistic too. Is this an adventure game that wasn't done ever before? Adventure part is plain boring from my point of view. And characters themselves lack any story behind them, you play just some generic someone without any past. In TMB gearlocks have personalities, here it's just playmat with holes. Again from my point of view. Combat part will most likely be fun as it's tied to character development. But we already have TMB for this, no? So the question here is how many times will this game be fun to playthough? Will interesting chararter development even out boring adventure part? 2.5h for 1 play session is not a quick game and doesn't seem to be easy to table in the evening.

>the game obviouly revolves around character development and customization. funny thing for me is that is exactly the reason I'm getting more interested in this campaign =D >But we already have TMB for this, no? Yeah, but, despite been somewhat streamlined in comparison with TMB, this one seems to be more... bigger? more spatial puzzles, somewhat different character development approach, extra moving parts like 'exhaustion' and getting dices back within the same combat. Kinda scratching the same itch, but in different scale, and probably in the way it feels. Hard to say for sure though if it will be the case in practice

Personally, I'm backing the gameplay all-in pledge because I don't own any CTG game atm, I'm a huge fan of Elders Scrolls, I like adventure games like Mage Knight, so I figure this game would be a good starting point. Btw I'm not a huge fan of deluxifying my games in general unless I know they are staying in my collection. And even then, I feel like games should already try to have the best components at the best price for the best experience. Also, more often than not, the price is so expensive to deluxify a game ans my rational part keeps telling I should not, so I listen XD

Man, I think you may have convinced me here. I don't think the game will be bad; I just have so many other things that do something similar that I need to get to the table. If this CTG version of Elder Scrolls turns out to be the bees knees, it'll get an expansion, and that campaign will include an all-in.

Price aside, getting this to the table is a bigger issue than people realize. The game is a mini campaign game that runs 9+ hours over 3 sessions and that's for a low player count. If you do not commit to a full run, you're not going to see the full extent of the character customization.
@clanechelon
@clanechelon Жыл бұрын
Interesting take. if 3 session for a total of 9+ hours is too difficult, then are you mostly looking for one off session or standard bigger campaign with shorter session? You definitely need to be in the mood for a 3 hours gaming session, but it still seems much easier to table to me than gloomhaven. We tried jaws of the lion, played once a week for about 2 months and needed a break of a couple of weeks (felt too repetitive). Then it was challenging to bring back up and refresh ourselves that we dropped it completely. I can only imagine bigger campaigns to be much much worst than Jaws of the Lion. I see this one as if I was playing a short DnD campaign that can be completed in a week-end at the cottage and it should not matter to much if you take an extensive break between campaigns. Definitely an expansive investment though

Given free shipping to NZ - that's sweet - but comment below - probably best to watch some game play - I think easy to table is a huge thing - why people like MD2 - plenty to fun games -coming - or deluxes of great games - just received Ra deluxe - maybe look at Santorini Deluxe - ie games easy to table with anyone

As i was saying earlier on, i will be in to , at least, buy my first and last CTG game with the promess to have the best of all the previous game in terms of , gameplay and replayability. Replayability, well, as long as it's like for instance Machina Arcana (this absolute underrated DC) which has 8 scenarios/campaign only but with 20 different tiles that you can combine randomly and ensure a different experience, it's ok for me, or even Mage Knight , which could be even closer in terms of replayability with deck building and random tiles.. And on top the specific CTG mechnanics. That's fine.. but never again a new CTG game in the future. Too expensive for sure, and (sorry for the fan boys and CTG believers) not worth the price we put into. So, in the end, don't look at me in the eyes , yelling at me with your big voice Chris (Joe Satriani, I unmasked you) you don't scare me anymore!, I'm going to buy this damn game! 😊😘 NB: i checked the past TMB campaign. At least for EU, the cost was 98$ + 68$ shipping (!) + VAT = 195$ and by a time where the $ was in parity with the euro.. so very close to the actual campaign. So speaking of price, we are relatively in the same range PS: and i agree, the all-in deluxification is a joke and absolutely not necessary

NObody mentions this but this game (I might be wrong on this) has worse dice than TMB. In TMB the Basic attack dice have only 1 side that is a miss and that side can be even better than a hit. This game has complete miss sides
@clanechelon
@clanechelon Жыл бұрын
If I understood correctly, the miss symbol in Elder scroll is actually the Tenacity symbol, which is a resources you need in order to activate your class specific skills. So you are not so much missing as you are ''recharging'' yourself? Never played any CTG, so I don't know if this mechanic is used in other games, but it seems interesting to me. Also, CTG is not hiding the fact that there's still a lot of play testing and fine tuning to be made to the final product, so it's difficult to compare it with TMB
