My issue with Horizon is that the creators really don't want to admit that their mini heroes and other humanoids are a small 25mm scale. It's not listed on the KS page, and when asked, they try to say that they're 30mm. However, when pressured to measure them correctly (bottom of feet to eye level and not bottom of stand to top of head), they end up being 25mm. Kinda shady. It's also way overpriced at $145, considering the lack of a character board, only 30 minis (plus stretch goals), etc...

I see the Nemesis franchise as one that people love or hate, with nothing inbetween. I have the original and Lockdown and rate them both highly. More importantly, they get a lot of table time. I was interested in Retaliation as soon as I heard about it and cancelled another pledge, to get this one instead.

Personally I don't like Lockdown that much. The game traded its sense of paranoïa established with the semi-coop element for lower playtime. In Nemesis I don't know if someone is going to be selfish but in Lockdown, everyone pretty much have to be selfish at some point in order to win.

I love the Nemesis series, the biggest push back for Nemesis is it is semi cooperative it can be fully cooperative however you never know. Unless you set it up fully cooperative. Some people hate that, some find it awesome. I love the movies to and it makes me feel like you never know how or why you're going to die or the unlikely chance you survive. It's funny and thrilling.

Back in September I though, that’s it! I’m finished with crowdfunded games! But then even being picky and skipping anything that I might get at retail I ended up backing 3 games this quarter. Nemesis is one of them. It was a strong finish for the end of the year. And even holding strong and saying no to more Zombicide, you know I have to back DC United next year when it inevitably pops up. Sigh.

I'm sure it'll look cool on the table, but man, how many awesome games could I get for that $$$. That price is laughably absurd. I immediately bounced off and don't care what trinkets they throw in to justify the price gouge. Maybe they'll do something amazing and make it worth half of what they're charging, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I prefer gameplay videos over rulebooks. Should they include one? Sure. I'll give you that. But I prefer to know the flow of the game and minute details that a rulebook does not give.

It should always be both. IMO, if you don't have a rulebook ready, at least in a draft form you can share, along with at least one gameplay video, then you aren't ready to launch a campaign.

Do you feel like it's fair for a channel to express the game they think are cool and you can buy for a good price....ever? Around Christmas time is the best time for channels to share opinions on games because it helps define the channel's interests and brings awareness to games period. At some point every video is a hype video. If you did "best non deluxified games to buy for gamers" What's wrong with that?

9:02 I don't know where you got €70 for North American shipping from, for FCM it's $29. Also, playing devil's advocate, the regular base game is $100, €160 for the deluxe version isn't so outrageous. Considering it's adding a storage system, game trays, miniatures, an entirely new art style, upgraded money and printed wooden components. It's only €300 if your buying the expansion also, which goes for around $140 for the old version, so its $240 for the old versions vs €300 for the new ones. Still expensive, but not as bad as you make it sound.

I feel like you usually do solid research on these so not sure how your not finding answers to your questions on nemesis they are covered in updates and the videos. FCM price is so high for what you are getting. Not seeing nice minis, metal, or really anything justifies that cost. Happy for those that want it but I can get 2-3 deluxe editions of other heavy euros for the same cost

Chris, I totally share your approach and agree on the need of criticism. I've been playing boardgames for more than 10 years, and right now there're only about 15 games in my collection. Others didn't stand the test of time or were not good enough or my tastes changed over time. For me the lesson here is that I only buy/back games I know I'll totally love. And to know this I need to see rulebook and several playthroughs. Otherwise there's bigger chance the game gets sold. So all these big publishers like Awaken Realms, CTG, SFG totally deserve your criticism. No rulebook means there's no game or nearly finished game which then means we can't judge if it'll be a good one. People are left to speculate, like with Spirit Fire😂 And from my personal experience Awaken Realms' games do tend to have lots of misprints and other issues due to poor proofreading and questionable playtesting and not enough polishing. I love some of their games, but totally admit the issues are there and could be avoided if the publisher tried to do better. Same with these other big publishers. So why their next game is gonna be any better and more polished? All they're doing is putting out bloated campaigns and milking people of their money while there's no clue how good these games are gonna end up. Usually not good enough in the hindsight 😂

The only time I can deal with no rule book is if it's a 'more' expansion for a game I already know, and even then I prefer a rule book, and won't back something with no rule book that isn't an expansion. I played the original Nemesis. It's good, but nothing ground-breaking. Even my friend that likes FCM is laughing at that new version. I've never been remotely interested in a game where you know you can't win in the first couple of minutes but the game goes on for 3+ more hours. Splotter games are all overpriced that look worse than many prototypes I've seen at Protospiel, and none of their games are actually that good, Bus and Great Zimbabwe are ok though. I sold Heroes of Land, Air, and Sea. It's a decent game, but I'd rather just play an actual RTS on PC. No one hated it, but no one really liked it either.

@@IronSalamander8 Is correct. It's a major design flaw in FCM that makes it unplayable for a lot of folks. Even with the overpriced expansion to "patch" that flaw, it's still an issue. That and the fact that your first turn or 2 are scripted...in that you virtually must do a certain thing or you'll have already lost the game.

In theory, Iwould really love to get FCM Deluxe and have this amazing experience. But in reality it is a very long cutthroat game with no catch up mechanics. I don't want some of my friends to sit at the table and be desparate for hours because they have no chance of coming back. This sound like a awful experience to share with them.

On the Nemesis Retallion, the savings announced (I don't know if is just marketing) and having a standee version make me think about it. But then it's semi-coop (I have to confirm what that represents in the game), if is semi you can't play solo two-handed, the massive table space that is needed, it seems too many components to manage and the setup quite time-consuming.

So I love Nemesis and also Lockdown. Play them regularly. They have earned my trust. The gameplay I've seen so far is good enough for me to back it full bling. Sundrop and all. Really easy decision on backing. I've seen plenty of Food Chain game play videos to know it's a good game, and I like it. I didn't care for the table presence in the original. New Deluxe nice bling, bling version? Done! Ordered. Full back with Ketchup! Again, easy decision. So they're a couple of games you don't like. Cool man, don't back them then. You got your Glen Moore to keep you busy.

Not all games work for everyone. I do not care for CMON games and do not own any nor have a backed a CMON game. In the case of AR, you would think given their size, they could offer a rulebook. My own rule, no rulebook no backing the project. I noped out of the first two Nemesis projects and happy to Nope out of this one too. When I look at the so called influencers around the Nemesis game I find it is laughable. When the first one was released it was the greatest thing since sliced bread although people had complaints. The second KS came around and many of the same influencers said how Lockdown was "sooooo much better bruh!" and exclaimned in the video how they had sold or given away the first iteration of the game. Here we are with the 3rd iteration and I listened to one of the influencers tell me how he sold lockdown, there was no need to have a cross over with previous games and how THIS ONE, THIS ONE was the the bees knees --- when he told me that Lockdown was the one he was keeping on his shelf in a previous video. Nope, I am skipping out. I will wait for people to tire with this 3rd iteration and pick it up used. CMON, AR and Chip Theory games I tend to stay away from because the massive hype just pushes me away.

Huge disapointment on Nemesis Retaliation. I skipped the first two cause they looked boring, more maintenance than gameplay so I had hoped this one 'the aliens' version would be different. It really seems like it is not! Can't believe how expensive all of these games are, crazy stuff.

Nemesis Retaliation pledge for $109 with minis is expensive? $65 for base pledge with standees is expensive? I think not. Check out the base pledge (the only pledge available) of Horizon: Forbidden West for $150, and you get half as many minis, no character board, and fewer components.

@@Gamebent1 $65 plus shipping plus VAT is not cheap. It's not 'expensive' either although that's just from a warped perspective I feel. Although I assume there are going to be expansions to bring that cost up a bit :p But good for them for a standee pledge, if the gameplay videos managed to hyped me I would have gone for that. Anyway Nemesis it's mostly the gameplay that I find bland and tedious. My price comment was about the other ones likes food chain magnate, HOLAS and yes Horizon. Just the general trend of UBER board games with mega boxes and expansions.
