Can you guys do this study on the vix, but can you do put debit spreads?

SVOL seems to manage it well. They only use 15 to 20 percent of account and they are hedged above with calls. It pays huge dividend not sure if sustainable. best time to buy is when volatility spikes.

But what about using VIX as a black swan hedge? Just buying a call out in time--90 to 120 days and perhaps doing this 1x each month. Say 30 delta or even down to 10 delta depending on how many contracts sold.

You end up paying a lot for something that will happen every few years. And even if it does happened like last week, it lasted less than 1 week. So unless you close that trade for a profit (not sure how you know the black swan event has ended), you still loss money because VIX has crushed.
