As someone actively looking for an EV right now, I can tell you that there are absolute deals on used 2024 limited models with low mileage in my area. I would much prefer some of the upgrades on the 2025 models but it's not worth the 12-15k MSRP discounts I would be getting for a like new 2024 model.

But the supply is so limited. You get stuck with paying for a high cost dealer order model which you may not really want. I want a RWD 19 inch wheel and that is never a dealers choice order. If I want it my way I have to order it and that means a 2025.

I went with the 2024 over the 2025. Price was right with the 24 and there are too many changes to the power/charging system of the '25. I LOVE the bigger battery BUT at 15-20 mins to DC charge, even on long journeys, range isn't that important. I have a feeling that the 25's are gonna get hit with issues/bugs either resolved already in the 24 or it'll take time to figure out the issues with the 25's to get them fixed.

This is good information and soundadvice. Thanks. Let me just say as a selfish and self-centered Ioniq 6 leasee, I hope you will send yourself a tickler message to produce a similar video if and when a refreshed I6 is going to come out. My current lease expires in 18 months and I’m already thinking that I would love to have another one of these, but definitely one with a few upgrades. In particular, it would be great if Hyundai would produce an I6 SEL version that got the highest range. The only reason I got the SE RWD was for the 360 miles of range, and I do not regret that at all. I’m already addicted to the range and don’t wanna take anything less. But, still, it sure would be nice to have all those SEL trim features!!

Good discussion of the pros & cons. I had committed to waiting for the 2025's and then the delays began. Ioniq 5's were the last Hyundai vehicle to get 2025 pricing, announced in early November. I have been watching inventory and saw they were delivering 2024's into late January. I wanted a Korean-build vs the first units out of the GA Metapalant, for all the reasons you can guess. And I expect the $7500 tax credit to go away on 1/21/25. I found the Digital Teal Limited AWD I have wanted since the 2022 introduction. I'm in Northern CA and got a 2024 with $15k off MSRP on a 3-yr lease with free-charging and haven't looked back. I would have liked to get the 2025 infotainment w/ wireless connectivity, but maybe there will be a SW update (😒🙏🤞) Of course, I'm also hoping ICCU holds up...

Was waiting for the Ioniq 5 25 refresh because of all the reasons outlined in the video*. But (in Australia) the delivery date kept being pushed back. Latest estimate was mid to late December with possibility it would be early Jan. Kia EV5 released here in late Oct. Whilst compromises like slower DC charging time & a few bells & whistles are not included, the EV5 is ~AU$20K cheaper - so much better value. Delivery is late Nov. So cancelled deposit on Ioniq5 & ordered EV5. * Except NACS because that standard hasn’t been adopted in Australia.

I feel weird. I went with the 2024 (picking it up in a few hours) partly because it had wired carplay vs wireless, and many cars that have Wireless no longer support wired. It may be placebo but I feel the sound quality is better. Also, it feels more reliable to me. The range increase isn't a big deal to me. The blacked out bezel on infotainment would be nice, but I'm going to look into a skin of some time. I am a bit concerned with the ICCU stuff, but I'm also never confident in big changes to things like the charge port, and would rather see how it shakes out.. But yeah, I decided on a 3 year lease, and if the new I5 changes work out, I'll pick one up in a few years. I managed to get a total between rebates and dealer discount of $19,000 off on the lease, and will be paying $525 a month with nothing down -- and I know people have managed to negotiate that a couple thousand lower with some dealers too. Big thing for me was lowering cost from where I was on my previous car that I loved (BMW i5 M60) but I was not seeing the value in a higher end luxury EV vs a really nice mass market EV. So the boosts to the 2025 model for the likely higher price weren't a big draw to me.

I may have watched the same video. He also pointed out that the Georgia plant will be getting parts from new suppliers that could add to reliability issues. I'm expecting that 2025's will be quite a bit more expensive than the 2024's initially and will stay that way as long as they sell for more. Supply and demand. So I'm going to either wait for the 2025 to be on the market for at least 5 or 6 months or just lease a 2024 and get a 2026 later. My guess is that the tax credit will no longer exist by the time the 2025 hits the dealers in big numbers, but Ioniq's are being sold right now with $7,500 discounts already, so maybe Hyundai will do that again. In the end buying a car is always a gamble.

Ok I figured it out. KZbin hides Join in the iOS app app due to the App Store fees. Inexplicably they also hide it on Safari unless I request the desktop version of their site. KZbin is not a great platform if they are making it so difficult for people to pay you.

I don't care about tesla or elon. But, technically, it isn't thier plug anymore. They gave away the standard and it was made vendor neutral. So we never need to mention tesla or elon when bringing up the NACS port.

Financially, really not even a consideration. Got a 24' Limited for $12K off plus the two years of free charging with EA. I weighed the improvements and, after owning my 24' for two months, I can see why Hyundai made the changes but I don't think they'd be worth $12K to me. The Infotainment system is better than what I had in my old car, I set a shortcut to get to the Climate features, don't miss a rear wiper, and the charging changes are a straight up downgrade IMO. The biggest downside is that Hyundai might not continue to push upgrades to the pre-25' models. I hope they don't abandon their legacy owners (Tesla obviously hasn't), but it wouldn't shock me if they did. Either way, the 24' Limited is a great car.

I'm in Québec and the provincial subsidy will take a major hit next year. If I don't get my 2025 ioniq5, I'll just keep my prius V or buy somehting else. I'm really not impressed by hyundai. Zero communication and they cannot tell me what to expect when asked. For a car presented early March. Amateur company.

Wait for NACS on anything. The Ioniq 5 is already there. CCS in a couple years is going to be where ChaDeMo is now. Just be a little patient to not deal with adapter hell.
@garyclark6747
@garyclark6747 2 ай бұрын
The 2025 is the one to wait for unless you can wait for a 2026. If you can pick up a 2026 after your 2023 three year lease is up this would be the move. By then you’ll find more native J3400 plugs at Electrify America, EVgo, Charge Point and others in 2026 allowing you to minimize the use of an adapter. Unfortunately those upgraded CCS Combo vendors aren’t going to be NACS compatible and charge older Tesla’s the current deployment trend holds. Also by 2026 all the short comings of charging on Tesla’s Supercharger NACS plugs that have been upgraded to emulate J3400 PLC communications (V3) or natively are ready (V4) will be well documented and understood. Obviously these two companies have to addressed their issue of technology and Tesla may have V4 cabinets installing by then allowing our best charge times we know and love. The future is bright but if the charger front is slow to get up to speed you may want to lease a 2025 if you can’t wait as this saga unravels. 8:10
