One of my favorite things about the older resorts is that a lot of the trees are maturing now, and they make the property look amazing. Old Key West has a lot of mature trees that make walking around feel peaceful

I recently purchased a 100 point contract at Boardwalk, and felt very confident about the 20 year time limit. Chose Boardwalk because we love to go to the Food and Wine Festival in October and love the proximity to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. By the way, I talked to Amy at Monera and she was so sweet and helpful. She’s awesome. 💕Found out we are both Cape May, NJ lovers:) love the channel! Thank you!

Derek you are right, I want to be able to spend Christmas with my kiddos at Wilderness Lodge. The value I got with by BR will put me in a 2 BR with my kids for the next 10-15 years, those are memories I won't ever regret having when that contract expires.

I think the bottom line is that if you want to stay at those 2042 resorts during prime times, you probably have to own there. Getting 20 years of Beach Club stays is better than zero years there if it's your favorite resort.

I think they are trying to put the saleman's spin on this, but if the price is the same (or roughly so as they apparently are) would you rather have an asset with some value in 20 years or one with no value in 20 years? That said, a contracted exit for a timeshare is a beautiful thing if you ever tried to get out of one and couldn't. Some you have to pay to leave (because it's worth it).

I completely agree that buying DVC is part logic & part emotion. After we bought direct at Riviera, I never thought we'd buy a 2042-it expires so soon. But then we realized we love our annual beach vacation on the East Coast of FL and we love the amenities of Disney. So, last year we added on a small contract at Vero Beach (2042), through the DVC Resale Market-plus it had subsidized dues (what a unicorn contract). I understand the contract will end in less than 20 years, but now we can book to stay during Thanksgiving week at Vero! And, for some rooms having that 11-month advantage is a must. Buy where you love (so long as you can afford it)

I haven't completed the video yet, but I would never buy a 2042 contract. I want to be able to enjoy my timeshare after I have retired. Just listened to the podcast. I agree with Derek. People choose to spend their money in different ways. I own 160 points at BLT, and I have an accepted offer to buy another 160 points at BLT. I won't buy anything older than Saratoga Springs. I won't buy Rivera because of the resale restrictions (I love Rivera, it is beautiful). I plan on always taking grandkids (someday, great grand kids), neices, and nephews, so I need somewhere convenient to Magic. Polynesian doesn't currently have 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. GF point charts are too high. Basically, leaves Copper Creek and BLT. Copper Creeks has prettier rooms and Lobby. BLT wins for me because we can walk back in the middle of the day for lunch and naps, easier to get on the monorail to get to Epcot and the 1-2 bedrooms have an extra bathroom.

Good info. Our 2nd purchase with DVC was a small contract at Vero Beach (45pts), but that never got us the cottage or 2bdrms. I since added 55pts and that made the difference when I combine it with my Saratoga contract. The salesperson mention the exp. date to me about 3x to make sure I understood. I say, if it is a place you absolutely love to go to, which we love Vero, it is worth it.

Honestly I’m only looking at 2042 contracts, my kids will be grown and time for us to make decisions on to buy more. Since this is not an investment, I see it as 18 years of making unforgettable memories. So that timeframe works great for us.

I’ve stayed at PVB, AKL (both sides), OKW, BLT, CCR… never wanted to stay at Beach nor at the Grand Flo. Always wanted to stay at Boardwalk but can never get in. Of allll of the DVC resorts I’ve stayed at SSR is my favorite for location. Having Disney Springs RIGHT THERE is just too ideal.

it definitely has an impact on the resell price. I think if you buy these be ready to commit to the 20 years left. IMO selling these off will become harder as you enter single digit years left

How about this for a future topic? My husband and I will be in our 90s in 2042. Should we be looking to sell our Beach Club and Boulder Ridge contracts, and if so, when? We would like to keep using them for the foreseeable future, but if we become too frail, or die, or are just uninterested in using them until 2042, what will happen to those contracts then? No one in our family wants to inherit them.

This is a big point that was completely ignored in this episode. One reason a lot of people choose DVC over other timeshares is the ability to recoup the initial cost through resale. The post-2042 resorts allow you to get 20 years of vacations and still get back your purchase cost (and usually more than that), whereas the 2042 resorts don’t offer this benefit. Chalking this up to “spreadsheet people” glosses over something that can cost many people tens of thousands of dollars.

All of these takes are both extremely interesting and extremely valid. We bought 200 points at Hilton Head in February of 2020 and have never regretted it. We have never had an issue getting another resort, even within seven months (in fact, we got BLT for Thanksgiving day ONE MONTH prior), so the low price per point was well worth it for us. We have since moved to the Tampa area from Maryland and use our DVC very differently now that we are semi-locals but have still never had issues getting a room at any resort.

In all fairness, Disney did not think through the OKW extension timing. My parents bought OKW when we were small, but when they offered the extension, not only was it 30 years out, how old were their kids? I was a senior! They weren't thinking grandkids yet they were starting down college tuition! Now since my husband and I have picked up some 2042 points knowing we just had our first. Those contacts will expire around graduation, perfect time to explore other destinations for a while. Although we also just picked up a larger Copper Creek contract with my parents. Yeah no ROFR. My parents have been trying to add on more points there forever. ❤

Having 2 2042 contracts at OKW and not been offered an extension by Disney seems odd not everyone was offered the extension to all 2042 OKW owners

The extension was only offered to owners in 2007.

One I finish my OKW purchase Boardwalk is my next one. For me buying a 2042 is fine as my age at that time. By then if I go to Disney it will be primarily in the campground. Already go there at least once a year so will continue that. You guys mentioned that the studio with the worst view is the hardest rooms to get. Consider a topic for a show being rooms that are listed as standard view but actually, due to a partial blocked view, actually are a bonus. Example is I know of at least one room at Animal Kingdom Jambo House that is listed as a standard view studio but is actually a 90% savanna view. The building blocks a tiny portion of the balcony on one side and that is all.

Hilton Head is the only resort (as of now) that I would seriously consider purchasing with 2042. It is my favorite Disney resort by far

I bought Boardwalk during COVID. Have 20 years to enjoy. And looking beyond that terrifies me. What happens if you die? What about a if you’re medically sick and can no longer travel. Crap happens in 20 years so you never know. You can always buy another contract at any time. And get 30 more years. Plus being tied in the rest of your life is scary as heck. My mom is tied into BlueGreen. I believe they force the contract to the children after they die. They are terrible no availability and crappy accommodations. I dislike timeshares but happy I got into Disney.

No 2042 for me. We are in our early 30s so I want a longer contract. Plus, I've been able to stay at BWV and BCV for weeks at a time without owning there (not in December).

I used to own 220 points at Vero Beach Resort and I sold it not because I was afraid of it expiring or anything like that but just simply because I had some Financial issues during the pandemic and so kind of forced to sell it, ,,, now that things are going better for me I've gone ahead and put in an order for a 60 point Vero Beach contract and I'm also planning on getting a 60 point BW and 100 pont OKW contract. In other words I want my contracts to reflect better the way that I had been using my old VB contract. The way I see it I'll be 56 this year. I'll be 75 by the time that this thing expires. My autistic son who I will need to take care of for the rest of my life will be 37 by then, so who knows if he'll even still want to keep going.

Our BCV points are the most expensive we have (in terms of dollars per point per years remaining). We have BCV because we want to walk to Epcot during festival and reliably make rope drop at HS. Looking at resell prices apparently others share our opinion. I STILL have not been in the pool. 8(

When we bought in 2003 we bought because we stayed in Hilton Head 2 times and unfortunately Hilton Head was sold out. Boardwalk and Beach Club were the only resort’s available. We have never regretted being able to try most of the DVC resorts we wanted to.

One issue you forgot to mention. I believe in another 20 years. Over half of the Baby Boomers will be gone. We are currently below the replacement rate for our population. I believe with in another 20 years. The housing and timeshare market will come crashing down.
