I only upgraded to an RTX2070 from my R9 390 because I upgraded to a 1440p monitor and needed the extra grunt for that resolution, but at 1080p the R9 390 is an awesome card and still apparently compares favourably to an RX580, and even performs well at 1440p in less demanding titles. One of my favourite GPU's is that R9 390, and it was rock solid for reliability, better than this 2070 has been, some of the older drivers caused my system to BSOD almost every hour regardless of load, although the current one is pretty good for stability.

@PaulTheFox19885 жыл бұрын
@@mrmagoo-i2l I would argue that even 6GB is fast becoming inadequate, and even 8GB is insufficient for some titles, which is crazy how in just roughly 10 years since I became a PC enthusiast we've gone from 512MB being good enough for even Crysis to run well to 8GB being exhausted in some titles. That's a 16x increase in VRAM in relatively short order, it kind of makes AMD's decision to go with 8GB in some of the R9 290x models seem a pretty sound choice, as even the 200 series isn't that far behind the 300 series.

The 970 was a great card, some kind of 'fire and forget' solution: for a long time you could throw anything at it and it would run it at high (or max) settings, 60fps and 1080p (max resolution at the time) with no issues. It was expensive but, unlike the current generation, it was worth the price. Nowadays people are buying new computers with their shiny 4K monitors and even after paying an arm and a leg for a 2080, they still need to mess up with resolutions and settings to get playable framerates. There is no 4K 'fire and forget' GPU, and it looks like it's not coming for a while.

Glad your internet is back up and running well. It's easy to see why the 970 was/is popular, good value, solid and flexible. The option of switching to SLi mode if needed is useful, even today. Although only certain games are SLi compatible, this does include the Call Of Duty series, Tomb Raider series, Borderlands, GTA V, Battlefield Series, Rainbow Six Seige, Batman Series etc. In Sli mode, two 970's running at 1080 is pretty equally to a 1070Ti. With the 970 available for under £100 used, it's a decent enough card to start off with if someone is trying to make their money stretch building a VR setup. So in answer to your question, I would definitely touch a 970 with a barge pole!

The 970 was a hidden gem. It often delivers 80% or more of the performance of a 980, at a much lower price. If you buy one used today, you can often get them for $80-$100 where a 980 would hit you for $120-$140, making the 970 a much better value.

@@brofist4675 You don't get it do you? Cpu usage not reaching 100% doesn't mean that the cpu is not limiting the fps. A 2990wx for example would always game with around 10% usage but that doesn't mean there isn't any cpu to make the fps higher. A 9900k @50% usage is going to be faster than a 2990wx@10%.

@@haonanzhang6759 thats good and all, but neither of those cpus are being used on this benchmark. The cpu is clearly not doing anything to hold the gpu back.

Ryzen 5 2600 8gb ddr4 ram Gtx 970 4gb (zotac) I have played probably every game released before 2017 on ultra. After 2017, titles like ghost recon, tomb raider etc got me to decrease my settings to medium high. Maybe their optimization isn't good. Far cry 5 and new dawn ultra. Resident evil 2 (remake) medium-high. Fifa/pes/wwe 2k/madden nfl playable at ultra. Nba 2k playable at high. This card could be usable until 2021 on medium low. Still a lot of potential left. Every game tested at 1080p/60fps lock. No hiccups found till now.

AMD has confirmed that the next generation Xbox is going to be running a 8 core zen 2 chip, so I don't see why they wouldn't do it for the PS5 either. As for a 5700xt, I don't think they would. It's confirmed for a 2020 release, so to drop manufacturing costs of the 5700xt for a $500 console seems a bit farfetched. Maybe they'll pair it with a vega 56 or 64 or even the 5700.

I have been running a GTX970 since it came out and recently upgraded to a 1440P monitor. One thing I can attest to is that once you step up from 1080P to the higher resolution the smaller VRAM cache does start to hurt performance significantly.

Still running twin GT 750's in sli in a 6-year-old laptop. Once my new system is up and running, I will retire it as back up. I went from high ultra settings 6 years ago, to classic warcraft on level 3 setting! I got my money's worth. 4 gigs of graphics will run most things in low to low mid settings still. You have sold Dirt rally 2 to me. I love the look of this. I will obtain it once my pc is up and running :-) How does this card do today still in SLI?

I don't know what you expect. The GTX 1650 is the bottom of the stack for Nvidia. I think the better comparison is the 1660. And look at that, the 1660 is slightly better.

I literally bought a used GTX 970 2 months ago, to finally upgrade from my R7 260X, and boy am I happy with it. I have a quite old system with an FX CPU, but the FX 8350 with a decent OC (provided the right cooling) is a pretty good match for the GTX 970. It performs really well and is really quiet compared to the R7 260X I had. For 75€, what more can you possibly want? CS:GO - 200FPS on low/medium settings because FPS>Appearance in that game Minecraft - average 300FPS on med/high settings with OptiFine installed GTA V - 150 to 180 FPS on medium settings Mafia 3 - 60-80 FPS on Medium settings

Pro tip, you can run fallout 4 at up to 90fps without any engine issues. They retooled it with the release of fallout 4 vr. Seeing as vr games "have" to run at 90fps to avoid motion sickness, they tweeked the engine to handle 90 fps. That tweak was also patched into the regular version of fo4 as well.

Wreckfest, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Doom (2016), Sniper Elite 4, Distance, Redout, Titanfall 2, Batman Arkham Knight, Prey, City of Brass, Shadow Warrior 2, Killing Floor 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, etc... No problem for the 970 at 1080p! It can run emulated GC/Wii games at 4K too, so that's pretty amazing.
