Im in the US and I LOVE the big bumpers and dual headlights. It takes me back to the 80's

I have opportunity to acquire a 113,000 mile US spec 79 450SL. It is rust free but it has paint issues below the belt line. Seats have been recovered it has not been on the road for 10 years but runs, drives and stops. Your video is helping me make up my mind and I’m going to scrounge up the $4500CAD asking price. It will need mechanically gone through of course. It is nice to see that younger people such as yourselves find these so appealing.

Like your video on the R107. I too love their look and timeless design. I loved driving it for the first time. What I don’t like is rebuilding one of these beautiful cars. I have taken my 1987 560SL completely apart. Every nut and bolt has been reconditioned or purchased new genuine MB including the entire suspension and the M117 engine. At this very moment my engine is torn down and on an engine stand. I’m now trying to purchase main bearings for this car which seems impossible. Not even Mercedes has been able to answer which bearings to purchase. And MB claims thrust bearings are no longer available. I tried an aftermarket and that didn’t fit like I feel it should. I love looking at my 87 in the garage for the past 14 years. One day I hope to drive mine again.

Wow, that's a massive undertaking! Thanks a lot for sharing, and I hope you'll be able to source the parts to get her back into service!

I just bought a completely original 1989 560SL in excellent, low mileage condition. I love it. This is what “German engineering” was. Solid, very high quality materials, well built, nothing falling off, breaking, or rattling. Silky smooth with enough power. A pleasure to drive. Its a cruiser not a sports car by todays standards. But I smile more driving it than my 2022 Corvette. These R107s are so gorgeous and iconic. Im glad I chose this over a restored vintage muscle car which cannot compare in quality. My brain wanted a R129 SL but my heart chose the R107.

US based here. I found a 82 380 sl that exterior wise is pristine. Interior driver seat has a little bit of cracks but nothing serious. dash has one small crack but otherwise mint. Old guy was previous owner before and replaced every major issue with the car. Heck even the AC works great. Guy wants 10k, does anyone think its worth? Also, whats the deal with back seats in this thing? The vin plate says 2 seater but it has a back bench that can be removed.

I just sold my 1988 560SL with 2100 original miles on it. Black with Maroon Interior.

That's a classy spec, and some seriously low miles too!

Love my 1975 450 SLC here in Calif. Still driving it, at least once a week. Take it to the foothills at the end of each month. It's in solid condition a true classic MB.

R107’s are very hard to find (a pristine one ) here in the USA
@classickproductionco2 жыл бұрын
I can kind of see why, they've been affordable for so long that the remaining cars have been run into the ground. Coupled with bulletproof mechanicals that make them run even longer before giving up the ghost.

You don’t mention the 1972-1981 450 SLC

I think we do mention it but we don't focus on any particular model (rather than perhaps the 450 SLC 5.0). Thanks for watching! 👍

Not for me. I want the 5 speed transmission and the electronic ignition.
@chrispoulson32152 жыл бұрын
@@jamesreckling6697 You could have specified the five-speed manual transmission for the 300SL though most in this country were four-speed automatics. There are some available in the UK but they are very rare. Not sure what you mean about the electonic ignition.

@@chrispoulson3215 I was retiring to the 5 speed automatic that was used from 96 on.

You all should drive the successor and superior R129.

I would love to have a go in one of them! They seem like a massive step on from the R107 tech wise.
@jamesreckling66972 жыл бұрын
@@classickproductionco if you can get one get a 96+ newer model. They have 5 speed electronic trannys, electronic fuel injection and are way more reliable than the earlier models. For instance they don’t have the biodegrade wiring harnesses that Mercedes used from 93 to 95.
@classickproductionco2 жыл бұрын
That is some great consumer advise, thanks! The biodegradable wiring is probably what scares me the most, thanks for clearing up when Merc stopped using it!
