Used to do ridiculous mileage for work a few years ago 40k+ a year. Had many cars bmws, audis, seat. They always had issues and servicing was a rip off. Bought a 508sw on 100k miles, took it to 238k and was bullet proof, seats like arm chairs and ate up motorways. Couldn't recommend them enough and It changed my mind of French cars completely.

I just got one last week. After doing. 300 miles in 2 days, it developed 4 electrical faults. Repairs would have cost close to 2 000£. I just took it back to the dealer, they said they might have to scrap it. Someone I know bought a 2015 3008. Which needed automatic transmission repair 2 times in the span of 3 months. In my case they did live up to their reputation of being electrical nightmares.

Dad's first diesel company car was a 405 GLD saloon in 92. Three and a half years later when it came to renew his company car he opted to keep it, spent another 10 years in the family - very comfortable seats, tons of room in the back seat (like a bench that could seat 4 no bother) boot space for a saloon was quite generous. Seats didn't really look like much, made from tweed but incredibly comfortable. It's like what Jeremy Clarkson once said about Peugeot in a special episode of Top Gear dedicated to the history of Peugeot that when this French car maker (the oldest in existence) decides to do something they usually do it VERY, VERY, WELL. And since about 2019 they have really raised their standards once again.

No tax to pay, massive load space, quality feel, and the small steering wheel design is excellent as you can always see all the instruments. The only design fault the car has is that it says Peugeot on the front! Buy one, look after it and you'll love it.

Hi guys. Im the happy owner of such car . 508RXH Hybrid4 , exactly same colour like the one in the video. I must say is a very impressive car , lovely to drive , and very very reliable . Before i used to drive bmw , audi , mercedes , vw ..all kind of cars , and everytime they were asking for money . Now , owning this peugeot , i quite feel strange , not needing to spend money with it so often :) Things that can go wrong on this car : Rear reductor (kind of a differential) - cheap to repair , expensive to replace new Auxiliary belt needs changing every 40k miles , and must be done only at Peugeot dealership . They have a special tool to get the belt as tight as it needs , avoiding to snap of jump -313£ with pulley Driveshafts are hard to find in uk . Had to order mine from Germany for 140£ . Peugeot asked for 550£+VTA Cambelt needs to be done at peugeot dealership , as it needs auxiliary belt to be removed and refitted , also special tool that i was talking about Nothing to worry about hybrid battery , as when it will fail , you just have to change the elements , not whole battery . Usually it fails on 3 or 4 elements . About 30£ each element Clutch on this EGC gearbox is quite expensive . Recommend to be done with peugeot specialist , as it needs few steps with lexia diagnose to be completed by competent garage . My RXH has original clutch at 187k miles , and no sign of failing Suspension is a bit harsh over potholes and bad roads . Because of it's extra weight , they fitted a hard suspension . For example if i press myself on the sides of the car , there is no balance . Nothing . Is very stiff

It did start to suffer electrical gremlins such as parking sensors and directional headlights which incidentally work from the rear suspension! Thankfully all covered on warranty. Not rapid I know, but brings in the electric motor meaning you cannot feel the gear changes as you are constantly being pushed forward. Would definitely buy one again.

That's a great shout for something a bit different, Matt. I was obliged to have a company car for quite a few years and had a 508SW when it first came out, as the car scheme was a bit stingy. My kids, who were young at the time, thought the panoramic roof was mega and it was a big reason why I chose the car. I did a squilion miles in it over 4 years and, like you, was pleasantly surprised by the quality of it, having also had all kinds of German stuff too. The 508 swallowed a family, bikes and holiday stuff no bother. I also liked having something that reminded me of my 205 and 309 GTIs, even if it was just the badge! I'd get one of these 2nd hand if I had loads of miles to do at the drop of a hat, as long as I could find a black one. The RXH is a decent looking car for a good price.

Just picked this review up want to add my tuppence worth. I ran the even rarer Citreon DS5 Hybrid4 'brother / sister'. First off; it was the most comfortable car I ever owned. PSA really threw the kit at it. Apart from absence of Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control it had everything (car was actually a 2013 model) with heated, massaging and memory seats. The battery was whisper quiet as you say around town - pedestrians often did not hear me. Road tax was less than my wife's C1. 200bhp in Sport mode terrific fun for a wide quite heavy car. However you'll be lucky to get more than 45mpg despite PSA claiming 70+ and tyres are REALLY expensive if they're low profiles. 4WD handy for where we live too.

Mk4 Mondeo have the slightly iffy power shift gearbox which would probably break while you were filming a 10 minute video.still if you can ignore the badge then these are a lot of car for the money. EMG is a DMF eating monster. But when that is said, if you learn it and drive it slow and steady and you know when the gear change is (the gear indicator in the dash pops up a gear before the actual change), it's actually quite nice. It's even better in the RXH hybrid because the electric engine gives a added push to every gear change to make the ride even smoother then the non-hybrid EMG's. But the EMG gearbox is not for people on the go. I had a 508 1,6 HDI with EMG. And it lasted only to 55 000 km before the flywheel said "enough is a enough". Drove it quite HARD. But with aging comes more relaxed driving. So on my current 2012 Berlingo with the tuned 1,6 HDI (92-126 hp)' it's actually quite comfortable and easy to drive. But I DON'T recommend reversing up hills.

Matt, you are the first person (I've heard on YT) to say "head-up display", which is, of course, the correct way. Everyone else (including Scotty "El cheapo" Kilmer and Dumb DeMoron) says "heads-up display", without even trying to think what the term means, and it drives me crazy. So, respect, Matt!:)

Thanks for another video of a car I was curious about, Matt. Had Peugeot built a RXH version of the second-gen 508, it would be amazing: all the things you mentioned, plus frameless windows, an 8-speed fully automatic gearbox and a sleeker design. I was curious to know your thoughts about the infamous EGS semi-auto, and it matches what I read at French forums: Peugeot calibrated it better in the 508 than in the 3008 and the DS5. However, I think I would take an Insignia Country Tourer, which is as rare as this RXH, commands similar prices (way less than a Passat Alltrack or an Octavia Scout), has a regular auto box and probably has a slightly better reliability track. Maybe you should feature the Country Tourer in your next video?

Think this phase of Peugeot (or PSA) cars were the Germanic phase where they really tried to nail on quality but lost a bit of the Gallic flair... think best blend of this approach would have been the 2nd Gen Citroën C5 with the hydropneumatic suspension (the UK ads at the time really played on that) - try and get one of those Matt and keep up the good work! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Very refined styling almost volvoesque. Best part is it still has buttons for a/c.

Before i bought my Superb i was in the market for one of these, In Belgium you can pick one up with around 100.000 KM on the clock for around 9000-12.000, but they are rare indeed.

Does look handsome, but would never own a Peugeot after my wife’s 308 station wagon had an electrical fault with my girls in the back. Still gives me nightmares pulling over and getting family out as car filled with smoke Love the channel, munching through all your videos

Hey Matt. I found something funny today. I was just browsing on AutoTrader for cheap cars and found a Peugeot 206. The first thing it told me was that the car comes with a 12 month breakdown cover. Something which you’ll need on a Peugeot 😂😂😂😂😂

The USP of this car is the Panaromic sunroof. Too bad I can't pronounce it though. It's good to see you paying close attention to the cup holders, I mean,....that's something you've never done before😂😜.

Just something I've noticed. Heavy cars I've owned have been better on tyre wear then lighter ones. It may have had something more to do with suspension or even driving style....or maybe the tyre compounds fitted but its been noticeable.

I would buy one but I cant because I'm an American. I did come close to buying a 405 back in 1991 though. It was the last Peugeot or French car to be sold in the US market unless you count Nissan's as French cars.

Peugeot tend to have electrical problems in my experience so to have a electric motor in a Peugeot is tempting fate. Not a fan of Peugeot cars although owned only 2 in my car experience

I did as told and checked Autotrader. Surprised me that all 3 for sale had such low mileage. I would have expected such a large and economical car to be one that people would put miles on.

I had a 2.0 HDi 180 GT around this time last year, thought i would splash out after daily driving a 406 executive for quite a while. It was quite impressive in most regards but i didn't get along with it, very harsh ride in GT spec. The storage cubbies are also not that great when you start trying to use them.
