Hey Daver, love your channel. You do some of the best reviews. Just wanted to comment that I have backups for certain frags that I don't want to have to buy again. This is my main reason: running out of my favorite scents and struggling to replace them in the future. Mainly because it may either get discontinued/reformulated or the prices go up (as with Creed) and I want to save myself from spending big money on a new bottle in the future. My philosophy is if you want to avoid discontinuation or reformulations or price hikes, stock up now. Then you have all you'll need and can lay back an enjoy your favorite go-to scents for years and years to come.

For the single guys between the ages of 16-30. Back up bottles of your favorite perfume is a must. You see fragrance triggers moments in your life that can take you way back. I wish I had old formulations of Fahrenheit, cool water, JPG or even 1 million. I am now in the same boat as you about backup bottles are not worth it. For the younger guys go for it because they may raise the price i.e Aventus, discontinue it i.e Mitzah, Midnight in Paris or a new version of it Eau Savage Parfum, M7. Reformulation is real.

One of my favorite fragrances was discontinued and I really regret not buying a backup 😢. I have less than 1/4 left and it's crazy expensive for Gucci Envy now.

I really do like the question of this video, so thank you seriously. My wife has a perfume that for sure if there was a rumor of discontinuation she'd buy probably three bottles of. She has been wearing since high school, wore it/wears it to all of our dates, and on our wedding. So it's a very sentimental fragrance for us both. We have two bottles right now, one that's an old formulation (is stronger at least up close, only for special occasions) and another that seems to project more. I also just picked up a back up bottle of L'homme Ideal Cologne, because it's been discontinued. I thought that i wouldn't be that person to have back up bottles but i've found certain fragrances are worth it.

I've got back up bottles of certain fragrances and for different reasons. I take it case by case, recently I got a back up bottle of g.i.t because it was one of the 120ml (bigger) bottles and it was considerably cheaper than the new 100ml bottles. I love g.i.t, I've got no kids or other responsibilities so I think I'll be saving money in the long run. I've got a couple of other back ups of other stuff too for similar reasons. If my circumstances change then I would reconsider whether it was worth it. So I agree, it's about your perspective. 👌

I agree with all the views. I think if you get a good deal on one of your favourites that you know you'll run out of then I definitely think maybe buying a back up is a good investment. Keep the content coming my good man.

Depends on how big your collection is. I have about a hundred bottles(& growing) so it takes me fore ever to get through one bottle cause I wear a different one every day. No back ups for me

Rampant discontinuations, reformulations... if you love a fragrance, stock up just in case.

I pretty much just collect Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfumes. Many of their scents are limited edition so seeking back ups for favorite limiteds seems reasonable especially if its one that will never be made again. Another reason I collect backups of a few of their general catalog scents is because some, like Snake Oil, are even better with a bit of aging, so using one already aged bottle while having another in the process of aging can be useful. Just my two (s) cents.😉

I purchased a back up bottle of Creed's Royal Oud a couple years back when there were rumblings that it was going to discontinued/vaulted because when meeting new people this is the fragrance that I normally wear and wanted to make sure I had it for quite some time... Well that never happened so I still have a backup bottle and my original bottle is about half way gone... (If you've watched my collection videos then you know that is saying something to have used that much juice from a bottle... ^_^) So eventually it will be used... The only other unopened 'back up' bottles I have is a 2010 bottle of DHI with a silver collar because It was being reformed (I have only put a small dent into my current 2010 bottle I'm using so I've been thinking of selling the back up bottle that I have) and an extra bottle of Blue Sugar because it was being discontinued and my wife loves to wear that one and I think it will be opened next year because my wife has put a hurting on the bottle she is currently using... LOL!!! Great idea for a video Daver...

My moods changes often & I like to smell different daily 😎 & doing that makes me buy new & exciting fragrances & that is just me . All bottles expires @ some point & that might change the way it smells & that would be worse then reformulation🙀 right ? Great video . See u on ur next review !

I buy back up bottles of the fragrance i like or once smelled that i know is about to be cancelled or discontinued. Making it a rare and meanwhile people have to remember the smell i can smell it anytime.

I purchased a couple of back up bottles once just to reach an amount needed to get to prepaid shipping. At that time the company I purchased from had a 5 bottle minimum to get free shipping, so I added a couple of 100ml bottles of Cuba fragrances that only cost $12.00 or $13.00 each just to reach that 5 bottle minimum.

I have a teeny bottle of vintage Vol de Nuit extract and couldn’t bear the thought of running out-reformulation killed this one-so I did get a back up. Vintage perfume will turn you into a ring wraith 😂

I have only bought backups of fragrances I really like that are discontinued or reformulated. 1 because I want to have them for as long as I can and 2, if I'm ever in a pinch I can sell them for a pretty penny. Like my 2 silver color DHI backups ($1000) LOL, Dior Mitzah or Midnight in Paris EDP.

I got backup bottles of Issey Miyake Noir Ambre and Pulse Of The Night, when they were still under £60 from Notino and I had heard they were discontinued. Because I absolutely love them both and I don't envisage myself as ever becoming a collector with 40 bottles, or more, and all that. Anyway, with what has happened with reseller prices of sealed bottles on eBay, I am so glad that I did, even though I am only about 1/3 of the way down my first bottle of each. Of course, there is always the possibility of finding new favourites that I might like, as much, or even prefer more more (Prada Luna Rossa Black). N.A. is now going for £120, over here and P.O.T.N. is fetching £99.99. I see American listings of N.A. at around $350. I'm happy to keep them and not sell them, at all; keeping the good stuff for myself. But if I maybe discover other favourites and buy them, to get through, and don't use up very much of it in the coming year, then I could be tempted to sell them because if those are the prices they are both going for this year, then God only knows how much I could get for them in a year or two, just before Christmas comes. I seemed to see a lot of people doing it with, what must have been, their backup bottles of Mugler Pure Malt and Pure Havane, too. I wait, with interest, just to see how much they are being listed for next year, too.

The only reasons to have back up bottles are if you cant fer it in your country and you've able to get it while abroad or if it has been discontinued or "rare" in my opinion Thanks for the great videos!

Bought several backups of vintage DHI. I've not even used 10% of the first bottle. So I ended up selling 2 and have 2 more. I've made mad money off these backups haha! $350 for 1.7 Oz is good money.

Yea I definitely think it's not necessary some people just use too much , I don't spray a lot to need a back up bottle of my favorite especially if it's a big size lol

altinislamitv the new one smells better than the older one because there is reduced cardamon which makea the new formulations smell more sexcier .. its just a perfomance issue with the new one compared to the longer lasting older ones

I do buy backup bottles, but only if I love the fragrance, so it must be a 10/10! But I never buy more than 2 backup bottles because anything more than that is a waste of money and value of the fragrance. And if a fragrance is a 10/10 for me and I see, that it's discontiued, than I'll buy 1 or 2 backup bottles too, or if I find a hard to find fragrance and if I find a vintage version. These are the only reasons for me to buy a backup bottle. I own a vintage version of la nuit de l'homme (2009) and in a few days my vintage version of DHI (silver cap) should arrive, can't wait to test it! But hey, the vintage version of la nuit de l'homme isn't worth it. I hope you agree on that with me:)

Very good time to talk about this here is my little story about this topic and in my case why you should buy a back up bottle. Ok so I just bought my first back up bottle..last week I ordered a fragrance called Oud Bouquet by Lancome I got it and wore it the next day I loved it at first sniff its a highly underated fragrance that I discovered because I haven't heard anyone talk about it I just discovered it looking on fragrantica one day. So anyways upon first sniff I fell in love with it I did some research and found out it was discounted and it was true because the bottle I had was no longer sold on their website the fragrance was sold but in a new bottle and both bottles were on fragrantica and the formulation was different. So I ordered a back up bottle immediately because the site I ordered it from only had 3 left so I had to order a back up bottle because once these older bottles are all sold thats it thats all their is and I never want to be without this fragrance ever I learned my lesson the hard way with Dolce & Gabbana BY Man..oh by the way the Oud Bouquet bottle that I have is the all gold with the mosaic rose on the front (discounted) the new bottle and formalation comes in a completely different bottle.

Dave, you have got also at least one Backup, but no bottle - it's a flask! Aventus 500ml is for sure like a Backup-Bottle, when we consider the juice amount ;-) So - don't fool us ;-) just kidding! Great work Bro!

If for some reason you made your mind up and only want to wear X, stock up. If you're a fragrance head with 30+ bottles, chill out. You'll never finish the first bottle. It will go out of style or you'll find something else. Example.. I love Chanel Egoiste, but it feels dated and I am unsure whether to buy it or not. It's not cheap either. What if I had 5 bottles of it and I could not wear them anymore? Now Chanel is somewhat timeless, but what will happen to Invictus and the likes?

Good point. You might like it now but will you still like it as much in the future, if your taste or preferences change? Definitely worth considering before you go stocking up with 2 or more backups of one fragrance. Also, you might just get bored and tired of it, too. You might even become a different person with completelt different attitude towards fragrances, everything and life, haha. Alright, that last one's doubtful but you never know.

If you're in love with a fragrance, how is your money better used searching for a new, better fragrance? You'll ending up spending more money on bottles you don't like or aren't as good as the one you already know and love. Your trying to solve a problem that doesnt exist. Anf buying backups isn't wasteful especially if its a scent you wear often. Completely disagree with you on this basic.

You actually don't have to buy a scent if you are looking for a new one. You can just try them before you buy them. If you are hooked on one particular scent, then sure, backup bottles could be a reasonable purchase for you. But if you have multiple fragrances, backup bottles are just redundant.

Good point because, for me, the quest is to find what you really like. I feel like I'm almost there after about 15 full bottles and 40 samples. I have 4 huge favourites for cold weather, I really like, and 4 for the Summer. It's not like Pokemon, to me. The 'single manufacturer/ designer' collectors that he talked about, and I'm reading about in the comments, have me scratching my head in bemusement.

*I disagree* I live in Mexico. One of my fav. fragrances is L'Instant de Guerlain pour homme (eau extreme). Can't find it in anywhere. Even fragrancenet.com doesn't have it (most of the time). Won't buy it on Ebay. Was in LA airport, nothing. Spent some time in Singapore, nothing. Was in China airport, nothing. Was in Malaysia for a few days & *pum* ! ¿What do you think i did? Getting a back up bottle, is like buying a "big bottle" of your favorite fragrance.
