Not to mention PPT doesn't follow the Puyo Puyo 2 rules exactly; it has much later lock in times for garbage and slightly faster everything else. Those changes are designed to make puyo not lose so hard to tetris, but they apply even in puyo vs puyo matches. If you want to play the definitive competitive puyo ruleset, you'll be unhappy with PPT. (they're both phenomenal, though, so get both. They're cheap anyway.)

fever was the biggest upgrade from the saga, the style is one of best. also some modes as the star mode, youg/adult transformations and dual team work combo from 7 and 20th aniv was very good too

Puyo Puyo Champions I think for a very specific crowd, so I find it hard to recommend this game. Also a personal preference, but I don't like the characters counting, reading the number was always enough for me. It's not as entertaining as hearing the spells in action, even if that means hearing Bayoen constantly in a 7+ Chain. Also the lack of animations is a big bummer to me. The cut-ins are nice though.

GameSquid so im going to tell you something, the counting is for competitive puyo players, its used from puyo quest, for attacking defending and countering, its easier to hear how long your opponents chain is to yours so you can figure out the right options to make to win

@@nimrod3401 I'm aware that it's from Quest. I understand removing the animations, that makes sense. As for counting, I suppose it can. Maybe I just don't think all of this as much because I'm inexperienced, so counting is as useful as the spell-shouting to me. Also that I actually haven't heard many complaints regarding the spell-shouting.

Yeah, as I mentioned in the video, all these changes are for competitive play. I'm sure the next full game will change it all back, But Sega had a livestream where they pretty much said "this games sales will determine if we get more puyo games" So even if it's not really your thing it still may be worth picking up, just to show support for the series.

Same here. Counting removes the charm and personality of the characters for me. Nowhere near as cool to hear Schezo say "Ichi, ni, san, yo, etc." instead of "HA! IKU ZE! AREIADO! SHADOW EDGY! AREIADO SPECIAL!". Coupled with the lack of animations just makes the game seem a bit... lifeless for me. Then again, I do know it's a budget title meant for competitive play only which reuses assets from Quest, so I'm guessing this is only a change for this game. I bought it for Switch and PC just to support the series, so the next main title is hopefully localized. Also, don't worry, you're not the only one bothered with the counting, I've seen some people already that are bothered as well with the change, myself included obviously.

Yeah, it's possible. But with this being only 500yen in japan and $10 in the usa, It's about the same price as a standard addon, But keep in mind, the puyo gameplay changes could really screw up the balance in online play. Also, the advantage to this is you don't need to own the base game.

I have puyo puyo Tetris and this one, I consider this one a completely different game compared to puyo puyo Tetris. When playing this game, I feel vastly different then when playing puyo puyo Tetris. Puyo puyo Tetris is fun and fine for what the game is but... puyo puyo Tetris is a game to wear if you want a feel for both Tetris and puyo you can. With this game if you like the aspect of puyo, then you're going to like this game without the characters. I love both games for what they do vastly different.

You have a fact incorrect. The last time the original Fever mode has been seen was in Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary back in 2011. Granted, it is Japanese exclusive, but every puyo games were Japanese exclusive for over a decade.

All I want is a good arcade mode or survival mode, like the Genesis games. The survival mode in PPT was garbage, the CPUs were really bad and boring to play against. Unfortunately, seems like single player wasn't much of a focus here either. I'd mostly play this on the bus, so multiplayer does nothing for me

the first puyo pop game (GBA) was actually based on tsu. The Second one 'Puyo pop fever' ps2/gc/DS, added a new fever mode. In this game you can choose either tsu or fever, you're never required to play one that you don't like.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is fit for Fusion Mode. For one, garbage receiving in Fusion is smooth, unlike both original modes. Puyo Champions is fit for Puyo(Obviously), as you can tell by garbage and features. Imagine Tetrid Champions...

puyo puyo is one of my fav games, I know from first one in MD, played almost all, and fever the most, but what I found terrible in puyo puyo tetris was exactly the LACK OF MODES, so I NEVER imagine that would be the first game that I asked to be refund in steam, was the first game and also the only one that I wanted my money back, that is really hard, because I can accept huge mistakes, but that game was the most brutal nerfs from entire sega. what made that game so terrible was the no defense styles, as all other games had, only the first and second puyo puyo had only one type, and the tetris too (back to 16-bit without enough physical memmory?), ridiculous, tested for 30 min and tried to find a way to change the defense style to something that looks like fever or other newer game instead the classic type "just die instantly", we can't defend, we can't hold the game longer, we can't keep an epic game that reflect the charge all times you can do, that is what made that game horrible, the style is not that bad but only that one? the game can be cute, but I wanted my money back. also if we counter attack, we still get the hit and we can do nothing, the game end absurdly fast and is very very very boring I'm really relieved to see the modes are back
