For the haters, this is not a brawling ship. This is 100% a fire support ship. While your mates are getting attention in their Cutty, you are lurking in the shadows ready to drop the hammer. For you Mechwarrior fans, this is a Catapult. Deadly in group fights when applied correctly. Hopeless when engaged 1v1.

i see it as a tactical strike ship. its much like the eclipse but for smaller targets. its not for fighting in dogfights it is for picking off targets quickly from distance. Basicly if you fly somewhere and find 4 cutlass loading cargo on the ground this ship is going to missile dump and disable the ships before they can get off the ground. a fighter might do some damage but will be much riskier for them to sit and shoot them.

I find that you want to be in close before you launch. Roughly 1.7 to 1.8 km while boosting into them for the best hit rate. Even then I am not launching more than 1 or 2 missiles at a time as I am never sure of the rng gods that determine if the missile tracks will smile upon me

It's a great ship for anti fighter missile boat. It's going to be good in the future when the missiles are going to be more effective.

The Firebird is now basically on par with the Talon Shrike now that CIG has doubled the amount of missiles. However, for the price tag, I'd still say the Shrike is a better deal for those interested in that sort of combat. The size 3 guns versus the size 2 of Shrike and the higher top speed sadly isn't enough to justify the large jump in price. However, I will contend that the Firebird is quite the beautiful ship, but so is the Talon.

I think the Stealth capabilities go unspoken alot. At 40% it's going to be a shadow striker. Idk if that makes it count as a purchase but....between the sick design, speed, s3's like you said plus 24 s3 missiles.... When missiles get a rework, this might be a great ship to store in your hangar as a support runner.

@@durtyred86 If I'm not mistaken, the Shrike has an even lower signature than the Firebird and is on par with the Raven. However, the Firebird is probably a slight upgrade to the Shrike overall. I'm just not convinced it's worth the significant price difference.

The numbers you see is the unaltered number. Firebird currently is 4 km, with the incoming buff, you are going to he around 3km. And typical launch distance is around 2 if you don't want someone to lazyboy style drop 2 flares to cancel out your missile. 😅

Not everything has to be a dogfighter, the Firebird is more of a fire support/ground support/SEAD ship really. It's a niche use for combined operations but it still has a place, it's not a ROC-DS.

36-48 woulda been the sweet spot for this ship. At least that way it would of given people a reason to get it over the shrike.

I love this ship. But if I was on the receiving end of a small, fast bespoked 48 size 3 missile ship. I would be livid, that is to much. Even I would scream nerf. 48 size 3 bespoke missiles, and you can not catch it! No that's to far, 24 Is a good spot. But maybe at least 1 more size 3

The hornet MkII for $10 less is a better ship and deal. The immediate buff from CIG leads me to believe the firebird is not selling well

You can make it work with 2x Dominance 3 and Chaos missiles. About 12 KM away from target go in combat mode and sneak up to your target. This works particularly well for medium to larger ships. Then either you can finish it with the Dominator guns or boost away and use the missiles (although those are always hit or miss). I wish we could change the missile size from (soon) 24x S3 to either 48x S2 or 96x S1 (although that may be too OP?). It's pretty weak but super fast so you can fly circles around most ships (before it will get a nerf in the next patch). A bit like an advanced Razor. It can be used for recon similar to an Eclipse or base Sabre as most enemies will only be able to spot you around 4 KM distance away. It looks cool and is nice to fly for now. However, you can achieve the same with the base Sabre and have double the fire power. Or I found another surprise: put 2x Dominator III and a Shredder on a Titan Avenger. It's 1/3 of the price but it's more effective in taking down enemies as it now has the same profile as the Firebird (interceptor) but has S3 missiles, 2x S3 weapon and 1x S4 weapon. And the Titan comes with a bed and storage as well 🙂

I see it more of a torpedo boat with missile speeds 6 type 3 missiles are around 18k damage which is roughly a Stalker V in damage

I got the firebird for the bounty rep ship for the mrt runs before swapping to the eclipse. Throw on some 5500m strife cannons and snipe from out of radar range.

I asked my org whether I should get the Firebird or the F7C and they told me to get the Freelancer MIS, I think that says a lot about the state of ships in SC right now, anything cheaper than the Taurus doesn’t stand a chance at high level bounties

I picked one up. I love it. I feel for what it does, it does it perfectly. Its tons of fun, so fast, and looks beautiful. I'd say pick one up, its worth it. I think the herald is the only ship thats faster in a straight line. Its also stealthy as shiiiit! so fun, its kinda like a mini eclipse.

The problem is that missiles haven’t been very effective in SC and CIG just made it worse by slowing their speeds. I could see the Firebird being effective as an addition to a carrier fleet for the Kraken or Idris, but not so much fighting on its own. Which means, it’s kind of a pointless ship atm. Oh wait, I forgot, that can’t be true bc CIG doesn’t release ships without intended purpose anymore. Lol.

The number of missiles is fine for this ship. The PROBLEM it has, however, is that they're all stuck at Size 3 missiles. If we could swap the racks out for Size 1 and Size 2 options, this ship would immediately become awesome at doing small and medium bounties. I mean, just imagine, 48 Size-2 missiles, or 96 Size-1 missiles. Ouch. As it stands now though, this ship is effectively an Eclipse-lite, but for targeting Constellations instead of Hammerheads. And not even being able to one-shot, either - you'd have to missile-spam from a distance and hope they don't just flare off your missiles.

I wouldn't call this ship a gimmick at all Ignoring all the hornet G-related bugs this ship sits at the A tier for skilled pilot use (Not echoing A1, this is a pretty common take in the PvP community due to its interceptor tuning) With the added stealth bonuses now the ship when fully "stealth" has an under 3km detection range which means 0 locking on to you beyond said range. Best solo strat is to fly silent, DO NOT lock a target (The moment you lock an enemy they get a radar warning) and do NOT lock missiles until within 3km of the enemy. Fire within 1.5-2km away. This is viable for both PvP and PvE, but it is not a dog fighter, though a skilled pilot could definitely use it that way if fighting you're average SC player. (No hard feelings, most players flying skills are pretty mediocre even after MM even if it has compressed the skill gap a little) This ship shines in group fights as a support fighter, you can easily secure 2 (4 kills with the missile increase) with near certainty. Is it worth the price? What ship on the store actually is honestly, as always I recommend to buy ships in-game but this ship is not a gimmick in the slightest, especially after its buff, it comes down to how its used and sadly most players don't utilize their ships properly at all because they fly them like they are turrets, especially abandoning the idea of roll almost entirely and pitch. (Partial culprit is CIG's lack of proper flight technique explanation, but in the end it comes down to players lack of practice)

I'm usually against buying fighters of any kind but this one was kind of special. I've always wanted a fast scout fighter with a bit of stealth. The base saber is appealing too but I'd prefer a good missile dump.

I love this ship. Stealth range game play is my favorite. It’s a mini eclipse that can dog fight or outrun who ever it needs to. Not everyone’s cup of tea but in the gas clouds of pyro this ship will be invisible on radar.

Very cool ship, love that the raven is getting a Gs pass. But its pretty much worthless unless you strictly fighting small ships as MM has essentially change weapon size damage so much it feels like physicalized armor.

With 24 S3 missiles it can go after ERTs that is not a problem. With my Inferno's 20 S3 I managed to get rid off a jump890's complete shield+massive armor damage so the buffed Firebird is not completely hopeless IMHO.

I wasn't around when the raven came out, but the flatter, "plane" like, dog fighters are my favorite. The Mantis has been my favorite ship for awhile, and you can't tell me that the Eclipse isn't sexy as hell. This is an alpha strike weapon, it's fast and quiet. To me it flies like a falcon, hitting that top speed, dishing out some hurt, and then blazing away, too far for retaliation. Its slim design helps it vanish from sight as easily as smoke in a stiff breeze, and makes it rather hard to hit from any direction other than top or bottom. I understand that the Raven was supposed to be special, and it still is, but being able to buy a similar ship was a no brainer for me, and the people crying about it sound pathetic.

You've gotta just luv rebalancing, not for me as i have a Raven, and rumour has it there's a QED version set to drop, which will be interesting to those who pine for a Raven....hell, it could be even better, doubt it, but it will be different nonetheless. The Firebird is an excellent CCU, so it does at least have a valid use.

It's really meant to sneak into conflicts and pick off then slide back into the shadows. Not go toe to toe with fighters or large ships. This ship is a sniper. Not a frontline soldier.

Harbinger and Ares ships cannot be deployed from an Idris or Polaris. The Firebird can.

ok it seems like everyone is looking at this ship the wrong way this ship is not meant to be flown by itself its meant to be used as a support fighter simular to the airforce loyal wingman program just a platform for extra missiles .

Freelancer MIS has 28 missiles vs 24 for the Firebird, but it's way slower and has slightly less HP. So the MIS is effectively retired from the game lol.

Love the ship! It lets me fight the way I want to. Whether it's in space, atmosphere, or strafing. I get in and get out with plenty of afterburner. In most cases, there is little to no damage taken on my end.
