The ancient question.. What to buy, the Cutter? or the Corvette? They both take a very long time to get and maybe it's good to first really closely look at their components and machinery before you jump into your journey to getting them.

Already owned the cutter, just bought the corvette last night, I love both of them but I think once I've engineered the corvette I'll be using solely that for combat. the cutter is tanky as hell but the corvette just has that extra on target firepower

I was thinking the same thing exactly. I saw a comment brown nosing (no idea why) that the video was "well made and balanced" - ROFL. Seriously, watch your own video after you are done and before you post. You really only have about 60-90 seconds of real content. Stretching it out an agonizing 10 minutes... Otherwise, quality was great, voice was great, just make your points and finish the video already - better yet - WRITE A SCRIPT, read it and stick to it, it will be much better then just rambling on.

The cutter is very fast, but pitching and yaw is awful slow, it drifts like hell, while the Corvette is insanely more manoeuvrable compared with the cutter, and that's a big advantage in combat, but if combat is not your thing, then the cutter is plain better.

It also has better hardpoints for fixed. 2 c3, 2c2, and 1 c4 are all in great positions. the corvette only has 2c4 2c1 in good positions

for anyone finding this in 2021... let me say this i have an imperial cutter and a federal corvette as well as a conda (all maxed out) i enjoy my cutter more than my corvette simply because i use it for everything. combat? perfectly capable. trading? amazing. Exploration or even grinding for engineering upgrades? still works perfectly. both ships will absolutely MELT ships in conflict zones and can easily clear out a HAZRES. the choice is up to you and what you like and want to do.

Imperial seating is backwards so that determines my choice given all else. Pilots should sit in the center of the cockpit, but if for some reason it's set up like like a car or plane then on the left.

I prefer the Corvette for combat and the Cutter for trading or mining out of the two, but ultimately my go to big ship will always be the Anaconda because there is no grind to get it and it can hold it's own in any aspect of the game from carrying cargo to exploration.

I agree. I went with an Anaconda and a Federal Corvette. The Anaconda is a Tender ship with repair and refuel limpets for long range wing support. My Corvette if a pirate corvette. I just love it when my "outside of the box" builds work out beautifully. I currently can't bring myself to grind for a Cutter. Particularly given its' maneuverability but who knows where the winds of change in Elite Dangerous will take me. I may have a good reason to support an Imperial faction in the future. Then it won't be a grind.

I prefer the Vette over the Conda and the Cutter. I like a multi purpose type of outfitting. And once you add a guardian fsd booster to a Vette, it does everything very well. Especially its turning speed making it more fun to fly than Cutter. And it has much more cargo space and firepower than Conda. Turns better than Conda as well.

Nice video, i fly them both... i tried both in combat pve and pvp. The Corvette is a pure killing ma schine ... as always in the hands of skilled pilots ... knowing how to use and fly fa off is a must especially in pvp. However the Corvette flys circles around the cutter there is just no way a Cutter will outfly a Corvette if both ships are flown by evenly skilled pilots. The drift is real with the Cutter. I use the Cutter for trading and mining only! I combat in my Corvette or FDL.

I think it doesn't matter too much. If you're lazy, like me, you'll realise whether it's a Corvette, Cutter or Type 10, if you sit in a HazRes and don't really move, the enemy AI is completely predictable... The enemy ships will either park above and behind, and get shot to pieces by your turrets and fighter, or they'll try to kite your fighter out to 8km, or the Fer De Lance will kite your fighter away and kill it... In fact, if you sit still and wiggle left / right / up / down, the AI ships will crash straight into you, mostly wiping their shields out...

I recently finished fully engineering both for the Haz Res and in a PVE Solo perspective, I find the Vette more efficient in bounty hunting while the Cutter is funnier.

Gunship: A hose of molten space lead with a built in scalpel Seriously, overcharged multicannons with a Rogue F Taipan is a monster, especially when you get down FA off. Assault ship has that great flip action that the clipper has (turns its nose to face you instantly with a boost turn) which makes them hard to outmaneuver despite having better numbers on paper. Just love the dropship line.

You say it can take very long to reach the corvette. YOu are not wrong. But you say that even with "exploit" which well, aren't really exploit to say honestly. There is a good way to rank up federation AND gaining a shit ton of money in... basically one day. It's to go for the systems Ceos and Sothis. Both talks to each other, and are within 10ly jump range. if you manage to get yourself a cargo python, can fully fit it as cargo. Even no shield. In Ceos' New Dawn station has a federation faction, and is currently the current owner as well. If you only need to make a reputation grind, take all boom data delivery that goes to Newholm station. Do reputation reward. You will get to 100% for rank up really fast. But if you need money more, you do need a medium size ship ( hence the python ), as now instead you pick up all boom data delivery that goes to Sothis Mining, and it is an outpost. Do try to pick up every Federation data delivery so you still can do reputation grind. And there is usually enough boom data delivery from all 4 faction that you don't need to do boardhopping. Once you are allied with everyone, each, or at least most, of the data delivery will worth 250k+ thanks to the mission update once you jump to Sothis. Now if you go to Newholm Station, you just take more data delivery and go back to Ceos. Take any Federal Navy mission that you can take, if you can take it that is ( the reason to least have allied with the federal contact here ) But also if you can take it from the activity. Most of the time at least, it will be imperial data delivery, so if you find that, take it a priority. But if you go to Sothis mining, now you look for every high paying Delivery contract ( not boom data ) Where is the reason you need the cargo. As a lot of them, and most of the time in fact, one of the 4 mission contact will have a delivery that will worth a minimum of 1 million. But the rewards can reach up to 7.5 million for only delivering 120 or 180 units of either silver, palladium or gold. Sometime even 88 units of delivery can reward you with 5 million credits. So you take as many of these contract as your cargo hold can hold. Then your round everything else up with data delivery back to ceos. If there is federal mission, take them as well, of course. I managed to do 400 million credits in one day that way, from 6:30am to 1:30am ( I was dead set to a goal ) and I ranked up from cadet to rear admiral along the way as data delivery, or delivery alone for the federation wasn't always showing up, so I kept gaining rank up experience. in fact, by the time I got a federal navy mission after reaching 100% the next rank up was already at 100%, and I still am with rear admiral since then. So basically, to reach an anaconda or corvette. It may very well only take you one weekend day if you pend the said whole day in such a task. All you need is a python, full cargo, a fuel scoop to get there. And you're set to gain a shit ton of money and federation rank up experience. There is something similar for the empire, but without the money making potential.

First big ship was the imperial cutter. Second big ship was the anaconda. After that I ground out the rep for the corvette. The ship I've always fallen back to when grinding out rep for any faction has always been the python, due to the capability to land on any station / outpost for maximum mission potential. After having the big three, I ground out the cash to get the Beluga (big passenger). I have found that when I am at a nav beacon bounty hunting, the fastest killer of ships is the corvette with the two big guns. Nav beacons are a fairly safe place for a big ship to kill tons of bounties. When it comes to combat zones, I prefer the cutter for the larger shields and faster engines. I have ended up paying insurance on my corvette a couple times, running out of shields and getting mass locked trying to escape a combat zone. The cutter can outrun many things when your chips are down, allowing you to get away and fight another day (after repairs). For money making, I used to use my beluga on stacked single passenger, mid-range, transport missions, but those seem to have dried up in recent patches, leaving only the multi-destination tourist missions for the high payouts. They still pay a lot, but you have to invest the time to do them.

I use the vette for npc farming in hazard res. The only two ships I have used in combat zones are the vulture and the fdl. Both of them are amazing.

If you want to afford a cutter or corvette buy a TYPE-9 first. Simply trade in imperial space.or federal space. Thus your making the billion credits , and rank at the same time.

I use the corvette more than the cutter, the cutter is really strong bc of the shield tank, I only use it for trading tho. For combat, the corvette is the better ship. Dont use them for pvp bc big ships kinda stuck for that. The other thing is that if you fight a full engineered cutter in a fully engineered corvette, the cutter is gonna laat longer and the corvette is gonna deal more damage

i have the big 3, i use the cutter for material gathering and short hall delivery missions that need serious cargo space, i dont use the corvette for anything, it sits in the hanger gathering dust, in order to use it you have to engineer the shit out of it for it to be any good, and i just havent gotten round to it, i use my anaconda for everything but to be honest the python is the best all rounder i have a real soft spot for the cobra and when i want to travel far and land on planets i take the dbx

I have both cutter and corvette both highly engineered with pretty much max engineering rolls. Which is best. Cutter looks better more class 8 slots, corvette better for combat and thrusters. Both excellent great having both plus 2 anacondas one anti thargoid one long range with 61ly jump range. Have done corvette for combat and now use clipper for highly weaponised trader.

Signifigantly more than type 9 as well though I'm not sure what it has off the top of my head. Cutter is also much faster, which makes escaping into super cruze easier if you have interdiction problems.

The Cutter and the Corvette both have the same engineered turning speed 4-0-2 pips 20 deg/s. The Cutter can also mass lock, chase down, and ram to death any Corvette that enters it's field of vision. The Corvette does less DPS than a Conda and has half the shields of a Cutter. Calling the Corvette a combat ship is laughable. It's the Jan Brady of end game ships.

for your reference, well engineered Cutter can boost easily to 460m/s with mass of 2200t, adding with a shield of 4000 with average resistance of 60%, it's a huge ramming beast. And the fact it dont get mass lock makes killing a cutter in 1v1 almost impossible.

For anyone in a 1-1 encounter, the Cutter flys faster backwards then the corvette forwards. On multiple targets, the Cutters shields are almost indestructible. Conclusion: Cutter is best ship

I feel like a clipper could beat a corvette with a *skilled pilot* in the cockpit, the corvette feels more like a battleship than the clipper and the clipper really is a nice ship tbh and just worth more than the high price of the corvette. The corvette really is a nice ship for a major military encounter, I’m not saying that the clipper isn’t capable I just think that the clipper operates better as a main ship. Tbh I don’t like the Cutter, the cutter is expensive and really doesn’t work that well all the time.

I personally have never lost a 1 vs 1 to a Corvette in my Cutter. It is in fact impossible to lose in a Cutter to a Corvette, as you can simply boost out and outrun the Corvette at any time. Ergo the only possible outcomes when you fight a Corvette in a Cutter is that you win, or you 'draw' by boosting away and waking out at your own leisure (or never waking out at all and just taunt the corvette by sitting outside of their range). Whereas in a Corvette, you can only 'draw' or lose against a Cutter. You can either outdamage them to the point where they run away, or you lose the damage fight and high wake out before they kill you (and if you're late on the high wake, you will die if they can make your FSD malfunction/destroy it completely, so wake out while you have shields left). In a fight to the death with no jumping out, with both pilots of equal (but high level) skill, I would bet on the Cutter, no question. Pitch rate doesn't matter in PvP as all the best pilots fly in full FA-Off.

Alexios Komnenos tbh if you run away from a fight and wake out it's tecnically a loss for you. You don't have to pay the rebuy, but if you run from your opponent because you can't kill him then you tecnically lost. I do agree tho that the Cutter has an advantage over the Vette which is it's insane speed: being able to leave a fight whenever you want is a big advantage compared to a Vette who's only choice is to kill or make the opponent run. I own both right now: Cutter for piracy because of it's shield and huge cargo, it allow me to loot t9 while shield tanking for days (I go after low temperature diamonds). My Vette for combat in haz res or confict zones and sssassination missions. Vette works for piracy too, but you gotta be carefull a bit more with your shields and you have less available cargo.

I have a fully engineered Imperial Cutter (with decent rolls, not god rolls) and I have to say, it is by far the superior PvP ship if you know how to fly FA-Off and control the range at which combat occurs. I run a full fixed weapon build (x2 rails, x3 plasmas) on my cutter barring the wing mounts, which are gimballed (though you could use them for anti FSD missiles to stop people from waking out on you so you can kill them). The Corvette is better only if you are farming NPCs to get elite status (IMO, a cutter is way more fun to PvE in as well, due to the innate difficulty of hitting a target in FA off with plasmas, but it will be slower than simply grinding away with a fixed multicannon/laser Corvette). For everything else, the Cutter is objectively superior as a trader, explorer (Anaconda is the best at exploring, so it does have a good niche). Top speed is King in PvP, and I have a 459 top boost speed in a Cutter at present; I don't even have a god roll on my DD5, plus I run a rather heavy build with prismatic shields. TL:DR Cutter is superior at surviving ganks (better tank and speed), general PvP, trading, fighting Thargoids and other end game activities. Anaconda is superior at exploring. Corvette is superior at PvE farming for the so called "Elite" rank. The Corvette is also semi decent if you are winged with FDLs as escorts, or if you are an extremely skilled pilot like Rinzler, but you will not kill anyone who actually wants to live, as the Corvette is too slow to chase anything down.

On the contrary; Cutter > Corvette in everything except farming RES and combat zones. And since the only real challenge in the game is PvP, I'd much rather have Cutter than a Corvette. Would not trade mine for a fully engineered Corvette, that's for sure. Do try to put forth an argument as to why this may not be the case; I'd love to hear your ideas. I'd also be up for 1 vs 1 duels (you bring your corvette, I'll be in my Cutter) if you want to prove me wrong. (And yes, the FDL is a better general purpose PvP ship, but Cutters are better at killing other big ships).

In a cutter you are reliant on sheilds and having to tank it out. If you and the vette have cascade torps, then the vette's DPS will catch up with you. However the best big ship for pvp imo is the Anaconda because of the ability to equip 3 Pacifiers a huge pa and utility hardpoints. But big ship pvp is lame anyway.

Nice information but this should be pretty obvious, cutter is a big ass tanky multipurpose ship and the vette is a combat ship, you don't buy a combat ship for exploration or trade. But I did buy another corvette for the passenger missions at Rhea it could carry the most economy passenger out of all of the ships lol

I'll concede that might be true on PC, but on Xbox and PS4 the Vette reigns supreme in 1v1 encounters due to the difficulty of precision aiming in FA off with sticks. It's doable, but not consistent unless used in short bursts.
